Great song. Just for you BRENDA. After all these years still have you in my heart. Even tho we are many miles apart, you will never see this. You wiil always be a part of me.
Listening to this song brings back so many wonderful memories of my teenage years, Just thinking about all the house parties in the Bronx and lower Manhattan.
It reminds me of James Douglas Morrison, in the Class of 61' George Washington High School in Alexandria, Va. He could have been a great Rock and Roll Singer...Dan O'Niallain
This movie is awesome and especially since it was all filmed in the town next to mine all of the downtown scenes still the same nothing really hasnt changed in almost 40 years
It's amazing how in 1974, this song was only 14 or 15 yeards old and at that time I thought 15 years was an eternitiy- really old songs. Now, 15 years is not really a long time. Didn't disco music happen just a few years back?? Oh well.
This was the same year that when visiting some friends, their father would ask me, hey buddy, did you come to see me or my daughters? If it's for my daughters, take Lisa, she is the oldest and would start laughing and his wife would get mad at him for teasing me. I would turn red and think, I really would like Rhonda instead -she is more my age :) I was in Junior High at the time -14 or 15 at the time- don't want to do the math; almost 40 years ago. :(
Man- 1974 was such a long time ago. I remember going to see the movie in San Marcos and it was great!!. I was about 14 or 15 and I remember thinking I had to buy the album and try to learn how to dance which I did; buy the album. As for dancing, it took many more years to build enough courage to ask a girl to dance and I never became a good. All the songs on this album are great- will need to find it again.
memories of coming out of the Elite Cinema Nottingham 1974 after watching American Grafitti & singing this to my girlfriend on Parliment St while the whole bus stop que laughed at me.......life was so simple! ah to be 14 again.....
i was unfortunate enough to not live through this era of music, but i love it all!! i grew up listening to mom n dad playing it in the car. i almost know more about this stuff than some who did grow up in this era. every time i hear songs like this, i just wanna park and make out with my baby :)
Not kidding these songs bring me to tears, regardless of the fact I did not live in this golden age, but the stories from my grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles from their teen years are just timeless. How I envy them. I could only begin to imagine how life was then.
I enjoy seeing teenagers posting that they enjoy and love this music, it gives me hope that they will be inspired by it and will go on to make their own beautiful music in which ever way that they choose (piano, sax, guitar, etc.). I think in the long run mid 50s to early 60s music (like this song) is going to become the "Classical" music of its era and will be remembered for a very long time.
omg every time i come to a song i see some nerd writing how he or she is only 13 and listens to these songs...so the fuck what i'm only 18 and do the same, NOTHING SPECIAL!!!
@EatMyButtCheese - Why don't you lighten up? Everybody has the right to enjoy themselves. And what's with this bad language? Learn to live with yourself, accept responsibility for who you are, and start having respect for others. You will have a much better life by being nice to others instead of looking for ways to put them down. Start being a leader instead of being a pathetic whiner.
@nomiclas Thanks for your reply. I remember them real well, that's why I don't tolerate them now. They don't know what kool is. Life is to enjoy; like a really nice song or piece of music, happy, something to share.
@EatMyButtCheese I know what you mean. People don't need to know how old they are ALL THE DARN TIME, but they're not nerds. I don't understand how listening to this music makes them nerds at all.
@EatMyButtCheese you write like a nerd "OH maah gaadh" so the fuck what" seriously im younger than you and i know how to behave. now just enjoy the music instead of complaining at everyone else
@kawasaki4everKX you're the only one complaining, my comment is so old i don't even remember what i said. But i'm pretty sure i was only saying no one cares how young you are, cause everyone claims they're young. Lol, i'm young too and i listen to it, you don't see me annoyingly post it everywhere. Love how you people are so sensetive dragging on about me "whining", when i'm not even whining, i'm just telling someone no one cares how young you are. gj trying to get thumbs up tho
I was eight years old in '62 and listening to the transistor radio- and all the music my older sister and the older kids were digging on the AM Top 40 radio- It was great! Far out!
This song was one the best from the American Graffitti soundtrack--- a simple movie with a story of us kids going thru life in a different time & music. One cool album too.
It's sad kids grow up today facing what the world has become for them, and what they have been willing to give into and accept... You can stand up and ask for better than what's sold to you.... The past has much more to offer than you might think!!

I'm 45 & was born a lil to late to catch this great era. I think I would have been 1 hell of lead singer of a Doo Wop group. I can listen to it all damn day 24/7. No hip-hop, punk, heavy metal, No Crap! Just put me on an Island, cold beer, a grill, my woman & all the Doo-wop that has ever been recorded. I would be content, I'll have a song in my heart & my girl by my side. Maybe God will bestowe that on to me when I go to live with him, I'm not ask'n for much....am I?
THIS SONG IS THE BEST LOVE SONG EVER WRITTEN...I HAVE THE SKYLINERS GREATEST HITS ON CD...IT TOOK ALONGE TIME FOR ME TO FIND IT ITS RARE!..I PAY A LOT FOR IT ....
Since I Don't Have You - The Skyliners [Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania] - No.12 on 3/23/1959. 10 weeks Top 40. - "AMG Pick. It wasn't just one of the greatest doo wop hits of the 1950s. It was a landmark in rock production, as one of the first records classified as rock'n'roll to feature a string arrangement. One of my favorites." - Greatest Hits (Original Sound Entertainment)-1990. NOTE: I was turning 16 when this song hit the charts and I would try to sing it to the best of my ability. :-)
So romantic, I feel so at home listening to classics. Whyyyy couldn't I have been born in this pure decade of music and talent. I would've had fun going jiving with friends and listening to this in a car with a boyfriend. But nope keep dreaming it's 2011 and music will never touch this again.
@fsanf164 Ahhh.. Honey! You just sound so sweet! Yes, I'm sure you would have made a great girlfriend "back in the day" of 1962! Your heart is in the right place, and hopefully some nice young man in 2011 will recognize you as a truly nice girl who is pleasant to be with. Just communicate that with the way you are respectful to other people and the way you carry yourself and dress attractively but conservatively. Believe me, the boys will always notice a sharp, not a trashy looking girl.
I was born 25 years too late to be a teen when these songs were out , but i am so glad there are still teenagers out there today that arent sheep and appreciate good music when they hear it! Rock n Roll really will NEVER die!
I feel so sorry for any teenager who didnt have this music as a background to their lives. It has something for the so high highs and gut twisting lows, perfect stuff. So many of these songs remind me of girlfriends and good times from my own Teenage years in england in the early 90s,I loved Grunge but I always knew where it came from ultimatly and my walkman more often had this soundtrack album American graffiti than Nevermind :)
Just heard this on Sirius XM's '50s on 5. It never fails to make me stop whatever I'm doing and focus on it until it's over. It's also one of those songs that makes me wish I could sing. I want to bring this stuff back.
I remember listening to this when i was a small child, my dad would play it in the house. i am now 18 and i am distant from my father now god how i miss those old days... id do anything to be back there again
At 51 I am heartened by the positive comments of the younger generation when comparing the Music of yesteryear with today's COMMERCIALIZED version of music
This music was just before my time but my Mom would play this over and over when i was a kid growing up in brooklyn and it drove me crazy. but when i listen to this music today, I can honestly say that I cannot imagine my life without it and how i wish there were more like it today. Todays music has no emotional content. Just MTV or VH1 feeding you music through your eyes. A song is about emotion, these people were singing about their experiences. listen closely, you can hear their hearts.
@angelmoraes07 You are SO right. Thanks for your sensitivity and great insight, and for the many YOUNG folks who have taste enough and a mind of their own, sufficient to admit THIS is the good stuff.
I am 69 and I am glad to hear that there are young folks like yourself that do appreciate this music. Tells me you have a good heart like many similar postings
@flashgm41 im 20 and i have loved it since i was a kid thanks to my dad who grew up with it, and since my dad allowed me to grow up with it, my kids will too and they will love it!
@flashgm41 There's been a renaissance of young people (born 1960 and later) that appreciate good music as of late thanks to YouTube. I can remember when I was in high school, my peers just didn't understand the appeal of this kind of music. Now, things may be changing for the better.
@flashgm41 yepper but were a dieing breed not very many young folks with good taste in music they'd rather listen to screamo or some half black half white rapper talk about his cars money and jawlry even rap has gone down hill i like the old 80's and 90's stuff but ehh i'll take buddy holly the big bopper and ritchie valens before i listen to rap
I was up at midnite during the summer of 82 and they are showing American Graffiti on tv, from then on I was hook on 50's rock and roll especially the doowoop ones. This one is definitely one of my favorite, I don't know what it is but it tears through my soul.
This is FABULOUS!!!!! All the songs we grew up with are the BEST!!!!! I feel young all over again!!

But nope keep dreaming it's 2011 and music will never touch this again.
fsanf164 11 months ago

Duncan038 11 months ago
The misic biz has changed so much. Saw the Skyliners at some dump in Leechburg PA when I was 12. It reallyt was better back then...
vfondrk 11 months ago

God had a Candy Apple Red 58 Chevy with 3 deuces in 1965. Gas was 29 cents a gallon! A double date back then was 4 on the floor. lol

At 51 I am heartened by the positive comments of the younger generation when comparing the Music of yesteryear with today's COMMERCIALIZED version of music
bee52mitch 1 year ago
This music was just before my time but my Mom would play this over and over when i was a kid growing up in brooklyn and it drove me crazy. but when i listen to this music today, I can honestly say that I cannot imagine my life without it and how i wish there were more like it today. Todays music has no emotional content. Just MTV or VH1 feeding you music through your eyes. A song is about emotion, these people were singing about their experiences. listen closely, you can hear their hearts.
angelmoraes07 1 year ago
@angelmoraes07 You are SO right. Thanks for your sensitivity and great insight, and for the many YOUNG folks who have taste enough and a mind of their own, sufficient to admit THIS is the good stuff.

I am so lucky to have been there in the 50's and 60's when this music came of age.
My wife and I and all of our friends treasure this stuff.
There is very little music of today worth preserving.(Well maybe Sade)
I somehow can not imagine any young people of today considering these to be their "good old days".

My three daughters continue the tradition. Funny how some music just never goes away.
flashgm41 1 year ago
@flashgm41 There's been a renaissance of young people (born 1960 and later) that appreciate good music as of late thanks to YouTube. I can remember when I was in high school, my peers just didn't understand the appeal of this kind of music. Now, things may be changing for the better.

I was up at midnite during the summer of 82 and they are showing American Graffiti on tv, from then on I was hook on 50's rock and roll especially the doowoop ones. This one is definitely one of my favorite, I don't know what it is but it tears through my soul.

I love the music of these times. The lyrics allowed ones mind to feel pure love. Lust was not the rhythm of these times.
The voices were beautiful and the musicality was pure and unsynthesized.
