You have to be brasilian to say that Priester is better than Jarzombek. If you listen to Spastik Ink, you will know that DOES NOT EXIST any drummer in the world better than him.
They both bring a very different style to their playing. Priester has a very "forward-driving" style. Even in his most complex flourishes, there seems to be an ever-forward flow to it.
I really enjoy that style.
Jarzombek, on the other hand, can play in a driving manner, but seems to really shine (IMO) in the (pardon my french) *fucked up* stuff he comes up with. I don't even know how the brain can conceive some of what his does, nevermind actually playing it.
People like Danny Carey and Bobby Jarzombek have taken metal drumming to new levels. These guys are not just about speed....their playing is actually intelligent. When the limbs can do what the brain demands, its the brain thats king. And what brains these folks have.
Ha. Those are just different drummers, different drumming styles. It's really hard to find someone better than Aquiles for dense and powerful metal music, and it's equally hard to find a so highily prepared and versatile drummer like Bobby. They both rock. If you agree, give thumbs up and enjoy their work, from Angra to Spastik Ink. : )

Aquiles is excellent at power-metal stuff. Fast feet and hands, but A LOT 4/4 stuff compared to Bobby. Bobby excells at playing odd-meters, polyrhythms, and complicated changes way better than Aquiles.Another thing I want to point out to is that these clips, you hear Aquiles through the professional microphones, it sounds that bobby is being recorded with a regular camera mic. so aquiles's tone sounds way better.
honestly they are both fucking gods as far as i am concerned, these 2 are the result of a lifetime's dedication to drums, masters of the craft, not opinion, FACT.
não podemos comparar musicos uns com os outros pq todos tem um "segredo" na hora de tocar, sendo assim uma coisa de cada um deles. Onde um é bom D+ o outro as vezes tem falhas como por exemplo eu penso que o Bob nunca conseguiria executar tão bem o que o Aquiles faz e nem o mesmo(Aquiles) faria tão bem o que o Jarzombek faz.
Resumindo... todos dois são bons no que fazem e no estilo que tocam não tem melhor e nem pior cada um na sua! abraços
se formos comparar os dois pelos videos mostrados teriamos que levar muita coisa em conta como sonoridade, recursos em geral(sonorização, instrumentos, triggers, pratos e etc...) e sabemos que o video do Aquiles é mais recente do que os do Bob usa mais recursos ja é uma coisa a +para se levar em conta.
Todos dois são muito bons no que fazem bons d+ mesmo mas se vc's assistirem os videos da seleção de batera do Dream vc vai ver o Aquiles passando por "dificuldades" em fazer um groove... continua

Aquiles é um excelente baterista, só que criou uma seita de fãs torcedores que o cultuam como se fosse um Alá, e não conseguem enxergar nada bom em termos de bateria além do seu endeusado Aquiles, que aliás nem é tudo isso que dizem por ai.
@Rockdrummerfunk eu sou fã de ambos, o bobby realmente está a frente do aquiles em tecnica, mas eu prefiro o som do aquiles, e outra coisa o aquiles é isso tudo o que dizem e muito mais mano, no brasil acho dificil achar outro batera do mesmo nivel.

Esse negócio de dois rides e aplicação de rudimentos nas conduções com eles quem criou foi o Deen Castronovo nos anos 80, e depois o Gene Hoglan elevou isso ao extremo absurdo em termos de técnica e velocidade (nessa época Aquiles ainda nem tocava dois bumbos).
E 3 brasileiros que tocam metal num nível altíssimo: Fernando Schaefer, Max Kokesne e Amílcar Cristófaro.

Fates Warnings original singer's new project with Bobby destroys this other band completely too. It's disgraceful to see videos like this, because it's degrading to bobby. plus at 12:41 to 12:54 seconds, was completely tasteless drumming that just wasnt right for the part.
In my opinion, bobby 's just a guy who loves to hit the shit out of his drums but aquiles could play a song on his drums without any other unstruments just his drums. Maybe bobby is faster and has better techniques but what does is matter if aquiles is musiciale beast as hell and know's why to hit something in that excat moment !

Bobby is the most technical but, Portnoy is not that far behind him Aquiles is not that technical ive heard most of his work its just fast, really not that hard plus if you have drum triggers which most metal guys have its even easier to play fast.

Bobby is a professional drummer since 1986, when Mike was still a Neil Peart wannabe. Jarzombek first band, Juggernaut, had progressive metal traits before Dream Theater. So don't tell craps, Portnoy is good but nothing special, his skill isn't even a half of Jarzombek's!

don't like the gloves at all but i have to say im more of a Aquiles fan, his style interests me more personally. but there's no "best" they both do what they do VERY well let's just appreciate them for the awesome musicians they are!
@pietromestu truth is, achilles played poorly at the dt tryouts. minnimen was by far the best. and how bobby didnt get an invite is beyond me. personnally i think hes at the top of the prog/metal pile.

Everyone saying Aquiles missed the fact that Bobby can use his arms seperatly. I would love to see Aquiles do that. (Aquiles is a great drummer, but Bobby is superior.)
I like both drummers honestly i know both have their own strengths and few err weaker areas? (very few lol) however i love how Aquiles accents on the other melodies and rhythms in the songs he plays with. But i can respect both. What do you think?

As for musical creativity, Bobby wins, look but believe me, listen to the Spastic Ink - Mad Data Race and Multi-Masquing also be confused if they hear the A chaotic realization of nothing yet misunderstood.

Bobby's drumming is absolutely flawless but it's a bit more noisy to me. Aquiles' drumming is ungodly precise and cleaner, I think.
If Bobby would've auditioned for Dream Theather, nothing would've happened, I don't think Dream Theater's music fits Bobby's style. It CERTAINLY does not fit Aquiles' either.
But, I gotta say it: WTF is up with hitting cymbals right behind your neck? lol

Onde um é bom D+ o outro as vezes tem falhas como por exemplo eu penso que o Bob nunca conseguiria executar tão bem o que o Aquiles faz e nem o mesmo(Aquiles) faria tão bem o que o Jarzombek faz.
Resumindo... todos dois são bons no que fazem e no estilo que tocam não tem melhor e nem pior cada um na sua! abraços

se formos comparar os dois pelos videos mostrados teriamos que levar muita coisa em conta como sonoridade, recursos em geral(sonorização, instrumentos, triggers, pratos e etc...) e sabemos que o video do Aquiles é mais recente do que os do Bob usa mais recursos ja é uma coisa a +para se levar em conta.
Todos dois são muito bons no que fazem bons d+ mesmo mas se vc's assistirem os videos da seleção de batera do Dream vc vai ver o Aquiles passando por "dificuldades" em fazer um groove... continua

Cara, li todos os comentários e vi opiniões interessantes e tbm críticas estúpidas. Sabe-se que há muitos que gostam mais do Aquiles e outros mais do Bobby.. conclui-se então que, ninguém pode agradar a gregos e troianos. Todos dois têm seu o valor, tocam muito e merecem respeito. @Brawwv8 O único iniciante é você, por falar tanta besteira. Bobby Jarzombek é um sideman de respeito, que toca desde o prog metal intrincadíssimo do Arch/Mateos Project até o hard rock direto do Sebastian Bach, e tecnicamente está muito à frente do Aquiles.
Aquiles é um excelente baterista, só que criou uma seita de fãs torcedores que o cultuam como se fosse um Alá, e não conseguem enxergar nada bom em termos de bateria além do seu endeusado Aquiles, que aliás nem é tudo isso que dizem por ai.

@deformitygurubashi Ele é bom, mas quando falo que não é tudo isso é por que a galera da crédito a ele por coisas que ele não fez. Esse negócio de dois rides e aplicação de rudimentos nas conduções com eles quem criou foi o Deen Castronovo nos anos 80, e depois o Gene Hoglan elevou isso ao extremo absurdo em termos de técnica e velocidade (nessa época Aquiles ainda nem tocava dois bumbos).
E 3 brasileiros que tocam metal num nível altíssimo: Fernando Schaefer, Max Kokesne e Amílcar Cristófaro.

anyone who says the "music" this other dude is making is better than bobby's in spastik ink or any of his solo projects are fools. just ron jarzombek's backing track alone wipes the floor with this other entire "real" band. remember, this shit was made for bobby's video.. Not something they took probably 100% serious or were commissioned by a label for. They are having fun and being creative and you can tell. this other band sounds like 1-2 and 2-1 double bass stock drumkit from hell beats baha

Fates Warnings original singer's new project with Bobby destroys this other band completely too. It's disgraceful to see videos like this, because it's degrading to bobby. plus at 12:41 to 12:54 seconds, was completely tasteless drumming that just wasnt right for the part.

In my opinion, bobby 's just a guy who loves to hit the shit out of his drums but aquiles could play a song on his drums without any other unstruments just his drums. Maybe bobby is faster and has better techniques but what does is matter if aquiles is musiciale beast as hell and know's why to hit something in that excat moment !

Bobby is a professional drummer since 1986, when Mike was still a Neil Peart wannabe. Jarzombek first band, Juggernaut, had progressive metal traits before Dream Theater. So don't tell craps, Portnoy is good but nothing special, his skill isn't even a half of Jarzombek's!

think aquiles is getting treated unfairly here. kay bobby seems to be more tachnical advanced cause of the whole left side thing, but then again, aquiles is quite good at adapting the drumming to the rest of the music, not overdoing it if you know what i mean, i aint saying either one wins or looses, i just think it's a bit unfair to say he's garbage compared to bobby...

As for musical creativity, Bobby wins, look but believe me, listen to the Spastic Ink - Mad Data Race and Multi-Masquing also be confused if they hear the A chaotic realization of nothing yet misunderstood.

Bobby's drumming is absolutely flawless but it's a bit more noisy to me. Aquiles' drumming is ungodly precise and cleaner, I think.
If Bobby would've auditioned for Dream Theather, nothing would've happened, I don't think Dream Theater's music fits Bobby's style. It CERTAINLY does not fit Aquiles' either.
But, I gotta say it: WTF is up with hitting cymbals right behind your neck? lol
