  • @curiouscrutiny Aretha Franklyns did all of the songs on the sound track! The cast didn't sing on the sound track, only in the movies.

  • this scene is so touchy it makes me cry when i hear this

  • Damn this scene used to scare me as a kid. Great film but wasn't lit very well

  • LONETTE SUNG THE HELL OUT OF THIS SONG. THIS IS INDEED A CLASSIC!

  • a classic.

  • Man, I remember watching this movie when I was 9 years old and feeling like I'd lost my own sister during this scene. And I think this is when I determined I was NEVER gonna do drugs. lol. (not that I needed a whole lotta convincing. lol)

  • This song had me sitting in the theatre back in the 70's crying my eyes out, the next scene after this is her funeral, I cried like I was shot! My cousin who took me to see the movie cried harder than I did. I named my daighter after this movie!!!! Luv it!

  • dumb ass this song was her dying song it was ment to me sung like this

  • u dumb bitch look at the movie befor u leave a comment. its that simple

  • I have the DVD. Check in Walmart. Lonette sang the hell out of this song. I love this movie.

  • I love this movie I wish I could find it on dvd. A true classic.

  • that part made me cry!

  • Mariah Carey is half black. And Irene Cara looks black.

  • @Youttubi umm...Irene Cara and Lonette McKee are both mixed. Use the Google.

  • i love dis song

  • wow where is mariah carey in this video..yall have interesting conversations

  • THATS WAT I SAID...

  • Mariah is black&white(look up oprah interview),Mixed people aren't all beautiful(just hyped up by racist hollywood),Nia Long,Gabrielle Union,Keisha knight(from cosby show),Megan Good,Naomi Cambell,Stacy Dash&Sanaa Lathan(beautiful but under-rated due to hollywoods racism).Note:Every black person don't get or have to get perms to straighten our hair. Some of us use flat irons just like some of my white girlfriends or just blow dry it because the perm may actual damage our hair.

  • I feel you SISTER & thanks 4 setting the example 4 ME 2 not let a MAN drag ME down 2 the grave! AMEN & thank you JESUS! Whew!

  • Sista was on smack! She let that permed hair drug Lord turn her into a jazz cliche. This scene is very "Lady Sings the Blues".

Anyway this movie had a real stereotypical plot, but in the 1970's even the worse movies got made. This movie was remarkable for one reason - gorgeous Lonette McKee (Sista).

Don't lie, everybody fell in love with her beauty. She was stunning, and as a child, I was mad every time she left the screen. Plus her voice had character and soul. She was amazing!

  • Trust me "Giving Up" is not that hard to do. When that man first hit your ass in your stomach the first time. You was suppose to "GIVE UP" especial when you know you cant be his ass. Why keep saying and take more ass beatings? Yes, he might have said he wouldnt do it again but that a fucking lie he was going to work u over again and again when he felt like doing it. so trust me Given up is so easy to do after they knock your ass out the first time. adios lol

  • This was one of the saddest parts in the movie

"I lived in new york all my life baby...I do not know a rat when I see one"-best line in the movie

  • u r right about that...that line sticks out in my mind when i think of this movie. it was actually a foreshadow to this moment in the movie.

  • this song is originally donnie hathaway..his version is very emotional

  • original is actually Gladys Knight

  • love the movie.

  • So sad Sister was so happy and beautiful at the start of the movie. And being with that low down women beater. Turned her into what is in this clip. So sad!

  • sister was never happy. thats why she's a prime example of the tragic mullato.

  • Explain that. I'm open minded, Your remark though is as bad as negative remarks directed at dark-skinned black women. Maybe I don't understand what you're trying to say.

  • You know this tragic mullato thing seems real. Mariah Carey is an example of someone who seems deeply saddened to be caught in the middle and yet somehow outside both groups, and she's super famous. To me, it seems like mullatos are often so attractive, they get pulled in all sorts of good and bad directions. Yet, in our racist USA, mullato seems better than being just plain Black. I mean Hollywood sure likes them (eg. Irene Cara, Halle Berry, Lena Horne). The real tragedy is racism period!

  • Mariah looks white, but her Dad is Black and Venezuelan. A blow dryer does wonders for her hair. Left alone her hair is so curly that it looks like a big afro..

  • NO is is NOT. Everyone knows that she is mixed with BLACK and white. Have you seen the movie "Glitter"?????? Just because a person doesn't look black doesn't mean they are not mixed. What an IGNORANT comment.

  • i couldn't give a damn about glitter. it sucked anyway. and shes still categorized as white. THANKS!

  • @deionc although I didn't thin that in the movie she was supposed to be interacial.

  • @teenloveCC just shows how a bad relationship can really bring you down and that's tru for both women and men

  • Ive been looking for this song for years!

  • My Mom blows this song when she's in the shower!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is one of the most emotional scene on film EVER!

  • thank you for sharing this....one of my faves growing up. glad i got the vhs and dvd for it!!!
