Notice that he and his partners, in every film, were right together (not "pretty much together"). Now count the number of cuts in the filming of his dance numbers and you'll see that he almost never had more than two cuts in any number. If he wasn't perfect, he did it all again from the beginning. That is what made Fred and Gene Kelly stand out from everyone else.
