  • duanes riffen on jeff beck and i think beck would like it!or maybe not jeff can be a bit weird//checkout down in texas/a cut on this album I herd this thing for the first time in 74 encouragement for me even the mighty ABB.had a beginning and a hot one at that..I miss that skydog

  • Was n Daytona prior to this when the Allman brothers were the Allman Joys,,Just a natural progression,,once heard Gregg say,,Man I'd wake up in the middle of the night & Duane would be wailin on his axe..sure miss that man..

  • I'm a Yardbirds fan from that era and I love this cover. It's a great tribute to Jeff Beck, Keith Relf and the rest of the 'birds from the mid-60's. Of course they evolved from this to more intricate pieces, but this is like opening a time capsule and finding a rare gem of music. Like the Spoonful cover also.

    Got any more?

  • @1blastman Tell it like it is friend..

  • what a great cover! hard to distinguise between Yardbirds and them

  • I was at the show in Tuscaloosa Al. at The Fort Branden Armory. This was 1965or66. It was my birthday. My cousin Bill Connell played drums for them that night.I stood right next to Gregg.Of course I became a huge Allman Brothers fan.I still am.The greatest band in the world today.

Thank you for posting this. This brings back memories.

  • This is a watered down version of the British band The YARDBIRDS song. The original.

  • @ScunneredMan it's called a cover.. So please elaborate, how is it watered down? It has the same structure and just as tasty of a guitar solo

  • I remember when they used to play St. Louis as Allman Joys. I wasn't old enough yet to go to concerts, but they were always listed in Bob Kuban's column in the Post Dispatch. Back then, it was the best place to learn about up & coming bands. Great stuff. Thanks for this!

  • Give a listen to Charley Patton's version of Spoonful. Song changed a lot over all those years. Song about Coke addiction from the 20's.......

  • sO, WHEN THEY WERE IN cALIFORNIA, THEY WERE EXPERIMENTING WITH THE WHOLE sTRAWBERRY aLRM CLOCK SOUND...WELL, MAYBE THE jOYS PRECEDED THEM. i'M SURE THE PRIMARY INFLUENCE WAS THE yARDBIRDS nobody6's got anything on duane

  • I never knew that The ALLMAN JOYS were the ALLMAN BROTHERS until a friend showed me this LP still in the original wrapper his whole house was ALLMAN BROTHERS and had many bootleg recordings of their concerts...he had a small reel to reel he would carry...the recordings were crystal clear OH YEAH in good o'l AUSTIN TEXAS.

  • im glad duane and greg moved away from this, not that its bad, but songs like Hot Lanta and les bres in a minor make this sound like crap as far as musical depth

  • @GJAndJCVideos yes those songs do have more depth, but that's mainly because they did this song so early in the careers. Oh and side note, Les Bres in A minor was done after Duane passed

  • Duane did few better things!

  • thanks for the song if you have a forest for the trees by allmans , please put it up

  • I'm reading "Skydog - the Duane Allman Story" by Randy Poe and this is perfect music to read it by!

  • hahaha not clapton??? whats that about?? any way great post! thanks a lot

  • hah I honestly don't remember why I put that in there..maybe to start a little scuffle hah just playing.. because Spoonful is in the title is why I think I put it but it was such a while ago i dont remember sry

  • Im real good friends with the brothers of the drummer Maynard Portwood. Hes probably one of the best drummers I ever heard. I jam with his brothers quite often really great people. Post crossroads by the allman joys

  • @dra1278 Maynard was a wonderful drummer and an even better man and friend. If you can check out his work with the Bellanger Bros. Maynard got much better with age and he is greatly missed. Keep the Faith

  • I always liked this version of spoonful... thanks for posting.

  • Nice to see the Allman's were diggin some of the British blues acts. Jeff Beck's version on Truth has an awesome solo.

  • Yeah when your just starting out and don't have any of your own material you have to do what is popular for people to listen to you thats what Duane and the Allman Joys did..
