My godfather what a unit he should have a degree or doctorate with all those tickets,OH and a 7pound hytest,i wouldnt say he has chopped in the ring Ouch but with what he tell us he must have been playin in the ring with someone.does he know what a madill is and what was used before them to move logs around.CHARADE is a person who pretends,i have only read facts fron austscout and $1000 a day fiction from the unit with a 7pound imagination.
just adding up=7lb hytest+employs MEN ? + has tickets + kicks heads + makes $1000 a day+chops royal easter show = thats a hard one so give him another tomahawk,no no not the sword he might trip.Any comments in responce PLEASE language.
greennosetellslies says he chops at the sydney royal show with a 7lb hytest and hardwood too.OMG,how good is that,3 cheers for his bull----.now come on.
I think the big companies have enough plantations for paper and old growth should not be touched, saying that there should be contracts released to responssible people to take selected trees that are suitable for building, furnature, scraps to be pulped, sawdust to be compressed.with the paper thing, gunns and the like can buy hemp off the farmer. All up we get employment in forestry and farming and if your an idiot your out of the bush.
A 48 year old with a weird personality,i bet the older bushmen who read all that [greenstelllies]this idiot has to say would be rolling on the floor laughing. Now hes an employer ?? can he count.i wish he would leave me a personal message where we could meet in the bush so i could see how brave he is,but NO he will just make a comment to make loggers look stupid once again.can you believe this idiot he doesnt even work.
hang on everyone the 48 year old who employes in brackets [people]and kicks heads in- is also a champion chopper.wonder where he bought his ticket from to use an axe.his mouth could go through a block quicker than his tomahawk thingo thay gave him at kinda.
Bloody women they always stuff up real men who think they are loggers ay greenwhotellslies'!!!!! why are you not at work on that big machine with tickets to drive it and all those other big terms you use in the bush.
you forgot dicko38 hes on the govt payroll and a very good friend of chopper read Huh !!!! Wasnt he on the govt payroll for a few years or taxpayer funded for MANY.
I think everyone knows that as they make their comments when they should be playing with their machinery that they all have tickets to enhance their stance at the bar, most cant stand up for lack of exercise, they even clean out their vehicles on the roadside because its too much of a walk and effort to put in the rubbish bin.
Hello greentellllllllly HUH ??????? We would love you to rewrite your last comment its all over the show like a pig jumping logs in the forest.Take your time and dont fall off your lil cherry picker and fall on dicko38s 38mm pecker.[woody that is]let the good times roll.
I wouldn't bother with that dude, Woman - Greenstelllies, Tassietalks, Buildthemill, Deputy1970, possibly Proudtassieloggers too..... it's all the same bloke.... He's not a forest worker anyways, he's dumb as dogshit amd he'll never shut up so.....why bother? People in here stirring up hatred between conservationists and forest workers are just getting sucked into his and the timber corporations' game..... (either that or they're working for the corporations!!)
2 days ago i made a statement and bdpars says we are misinformed. If you are in the forest industry ask why there is price fixing going on with the GEOs.They want you to work for nothing.Ask your big boss why all the talks in northern Tasmania.
native forests are CEOs slush fund and they use contractors to do their dirty work but not for a $2million paypacket.the contractor is a border line bankrupt and the CEOs and banks love them.the logger will get his severence paypacket without a smile because machines dont need men in the bush just one pressing buttons.THINK.Where are the men who use to bark the logs.
screw all you supporters of this... unruly loggers, go and grow your own damn forest if you want to cut something down for a buck. Have some empathy for the forest that grew some of the most magnificent trees in this world. Move somewhere where you dont have to committ such crimes against nature simply to support your families. People have forgotten that we are here to protect the earth not exploit it for our families...
good god another foul mouth hard working sandpit stick puller.oh sorry didnt know pullin was your job,i dont want to go there bdparssthelube.wakeup this is a family show.
fuckin greenies get real jobs you cunts ,and leave the working man alone.you think everyone is on your side but the drugs you smoke are frying your brains.if you come onto one of my jobs you WILL get worse than that!
I think if you were any good logtruckpuller you would own your own truck instead of playing in a sand pit and making stupid anti social remarks that put the industry to shame.austscout has probably cut more wood than you have seen your mummy put in the fireplace.stop playn with your stick.
if you go out to a coupe you will see them fall the old growth then split it with a machine so its definately meant for woodchip.most old growth have rot in them so thats the excuse to chip them.this practice gives gunns and the like the cream of the forest to spend on their mansions, cars, hollidays.the contractor is paid a pittance.proudtassie wanker would not have a clue about harvesting a bunch of grapes.
Did the pre-schoolers kick sand in your face and didnt want to play anymore so you decided to type on the computer. well done keep up the intelligent entries on you tube. and we cant wait for your dumb ass reply.LOL
yes i do. knocking trees down part time while crew process's. ha ha. bloody big timber you see. takes a while for the crew keep up. the bigger the trees the less i have to work. ha ha
Austscout works in a fucking timbermill wasnt good enough to get a real timber inustry job dumb fuck cant even operate a saw lol have a look at his profile
say you have an animal activist. they are almost guaranteed to be a vegetarian. but a greenie, well you would think they would set a similar example. by not being such a hypocrite by working in a saw mill. and consuming wood chip products every day
Because the money is good and jobs in tassy are a not that easy to come by. If you live in the rural area you either farm or log. I guess my point is that you should leave the loggers alone and take it up with gunns of the state government, no matter how much you pester a contractor the wont stop it cause they cant they have to much money and time invested in what they do. This is last post because I will agree to disagree because you wont change your ideas and niether will I!
I like driving trucks and have done it all over Australia and carted just about everythihng you can think. So you could probaly say that Im not even a real logging industry worker but I have seen the crap that the contractors have to put up with and the absolute lies that are told about the and it shits me to tears. My opion is that you are picking on the wrong people and its wrong. If convert 1 person from logging to your way of thing there is going to be someone to take his place.
The funny thing is we wont lose our jobs not in your or my lifetime because wether you like it or not people need timber products, In your email to me you said that you did not no that you needed a University Degree's that enable you to drive a truck, you are right you dont but dont think for 1 second that a peace of paper makes you a better or smarter person. I have had a lot of jobs I used to be a Tech Support Desk Supervisor for one of the biggest gaming compaies in Aust. but I was not happy
All this agressive stuff asside, when the shit hits the fan, I wont want to see your logging family's starve, so say what you want, Ill still do the right thing, and no, Im not scared to fight anyone, I just know it'll resolve nothing !.
So good luck to you and untill the day you understand what Im saying, all the best tree hater's. One world, one network, one fate. To save yourself, first save your enemy.
no the violence wont solve anything. just like blockading. so like all the coments say. leave the contractors alone and take it up wiht the pen pushers.
I'm sick of this garbage, if someone was threatening my livelihood in the way these protesters are i'd be doing far more than scaring them with a sledge hammer or axe. people have a right to protest but not at other peoples expense. they should go strap themselves to politicians doors or parliament house or something. i bet if a logger chained himself to the wilderness society door he'd be arrested in a heart beat. maybe that's what they should be doing.
Regardless of what happens to the woodchips, or if the greenies dont want the trees chopped down, the people protesting are a-holes. The loggers don't log wherever they like, they are told where they can log, if the protesters want an area protected they should take it up with the people who make decisions, not the people trying to earn a living.
The greenies attacked first, the loggers simply retaliated. If someone was stopping me from earning a living id probably defend myself too.
Dont get me wrong and the protesters know that what you say, at the moment the government is doing deals with companies at mates rates.i personally would help a contractor load his logs and sell them to the right person at the right price if the money went to the contractor, that way he would select the best and be debt free with a crew working safely. Why give to the rich they have enough.
the timber coming from the florentine is mostly chipped and sent overseas on ships that dump their balast in our waters and infest our seabed with nastys such as crown of thorn starfish.there is no reason for taking old growth for our domestic market as hemp could be used and we already have enough plantations, what goes out of tassie now is all bahama hollidays for the rich at the cost of our forest,
That's some scary footage there... I thought adults were supposed to be, well, 'adult.' At least, that's what I thought when I was a kid. Now I think that maybe there are some 12-year-olds with more sense!
Wish i was there, i may be a peacefull envioronmentalist, but provoke me or do something like that to me and i would of buried everyone one of them in that forest.
My skills from the US Special forces and with over 200 kills to date, whats another 10 or so!!
Our govmt done deals with multinationals and heads rolled.a premier ran, they blame the police.and it boils down to one guy and the state government are covering their tracks through parliament. The loggers want work and it is there but the multinationals want to strip the forest before they take their own plantations. With this our forestry knows everything and does nothing they even watch asaults in their [OUR]forests,
To true the government is slill doing deals. What a rich state we have in our special timbers, hemp for paper, selected trees for furniture.plantation for everything else.old growth and native for tours and wildlife
The attitude of both the Tasmanian government and the logging industry is appalling. They are condoning violence. If it was the other way around you can be assured that people would have been arrested immediately and the government would be calling for gaol terms. In newspapers in Vic & NSW the Tas government uses images of pristine rainforest to lure tourists to the island state; these same areas that the protesters who were violently attacked by logging industry thugs are trying to protect.
Those who work in the bush and select a tree are true BUSHMEN.Those who tear it all down and see it only as wood are JUST loggers and they never become skilled as BUSHMEN.
I just read a responce from the -huonpiner-on the other protest site he is not a logger but what he writes puts him up there in the catagory as a true Bushman with respect for the job of a bush worker.THERE ONCE WERE BUSHMEN-Who is going to write the book-maybe hounpiner.
The exact Max Planck quote is: "A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it."
Current logging practices in Tas are worse than third world. The clear felling, fire bombing and poisoning of native animals only happens in places where the government is totally corrupt; like Tas, Indonesia; Malaysia; PNG. We see the the LabLib party applauding these attacks and encouraging violence while using a "clean & green" image to sell Tasmania. I call on all Mainland Australians to boycott all things Tasmanian, including travel and all produce.
Looking at your personal page, you say youre a grunt, bit old for that? Why would someone that is so for the environment have their favourite videos as war videos? If I didnt know better I would say youre an American born with a saying like Semper fidelis (marine corp saying). Arent you are bit of a hypocrite?

Logger Cull you are such a wanker, your attempt at sarcasm is just pitiful. We are well aware that the industry is sustainable and Tasmania is one of the only logging industries that is, not like South America or Indonesia. Why dont you go and argue with them? Oh thats right; they just kill you for protesting there. You are picking the easy targets, youre so tough over the computer with your tough talk and as for your name its just pathetic, youre just another waste of oxygen.
i am so sorry. so obvious this was a coinsidence that there was a camera handy, hiding in the bush. was he bird watching. or was he protecting his crop
yes we have the answer fuktheworld has said it.now we need to school the dickheads in parliament not to confuse it with and say DRUGS.We can grow poppy we can make booze so why not hemp.yes the govt will say there is trial plantations of hemp.we dont need trial plots we need industry.
forestry can go logging anywhere they wish as long as its in the simpson desert.take some water with you and your pollies and reflect what you once saw in the tasmanian bush.
to all the people out there that think this was wrong, you guys need to wake up to the lying greenie mongrels. who knows if that wasnt all a set up by the greenies. anyway even if they didnt i dont blame the forestry workers one little bit. If you had someone come in and interrupt your job day in day out and affected your salary would you stand there and say nothing.... I DONT THINK SO. geez give the forestry workers a god damn break they r earnin a livin just like any other family out there.
here here. they wouldn't understand what it was like to have their day job interrupted. maybe if you said if someone tried to take their dole cheque off them they might understand.
i think the premier of your little tasmania is putting the screws on the police force to enforce anti protest laws in the logging coupes.now the police are the scapegoats for a deal with a multi national made by your state government.i thought they sacked that premier, and his mate plus top cop.has anyone got an incling to write a book on your government, seems they use--abuse--and sack.
you forest workers are so funny, you get paid, we dont : poor, simple loggers, perhaps one day the cookie will crumble, just hope it doesnt hurt, lol.
The individual actions here are of little consquence to the real issues at play. These are:
1. The importance of protecting the environment, especially a forest surrounded by world heritage areas, which the World Conservation Union has labbeled as "having potential World Heritage value".
2. How do progressive environmental movements work with rather than against progressive labour movements.
3. How to trace this back to those who profit i.e. governments and corporations.
I applaud your statements but the Tas logging union, the CFMEU is in no way progressive. They supported John Howard rather than take a $800m bail out from the ALP; they just like to destroy forests and see that as their god given right & nothing will stop them, not even the lose of 1000's of jobs as preferred contractors and mates of the CFMEU get all the work and Gunns get chips for $10 a ton, sucking $ out of the Tas economy to prop up a corporation while the CFMEU heavies laugh at the workers
I in no way condone this behaviour but it seems your attacking a whole UMBRELLA union when in fact it is only the forestery division of the CFMEU that supported the logging. The construction and energy divisions of the CFMEU would never support a liberal government due to many attacks on the rights of workers under the libs including the royal cole commission and the ABCC. The loggers here display disgustingly violent behaviour, however get your facts right before labelling and attacking a group
Yeah the forestry branch of the CFMEU is rotten, but despite that, the rest of the union is still one of the most progressive unions, and one of the few to describe its self as a class-struggle based union.
You understand that CFMEU is in branches of Contruction, Forestry etc etc.
Set up and provocation! Yes the loggers clearly acted unlawfully but this is the reaction the protesters wanted. No sympathy here. Infact your just drawing my attention to the plight of the loggers. Didn't realise they had to deal with you clowns day in day out. Daniel007233 has it right. If you really want to make a difference do it in parliment. OR better yet make the difference where it actually matters. Like the actual serious deforestation in Indonesia and South America! No sympathy at all
Gee LoggerCull has had a blank today. TOURISM -Tasmania On Utube Rich In Sawdust Mulch, I think the forestry thought that one up for the add, they said they were going to sell tassie to the world but they didnt say[in log form]would that be another government fibber,
Tourism is a new word in tasmania,it is about letting the world know that we have a green image and heaps of fun places you WOOD like to visit.BUT some of the good spots are not realy good so they put gates so you dont go see them, and to make sure you dont they employ OLD SLEDGER.yep Old Sledger goes around breaking glass outa cars, dont quote me but think hes employed by ward 1A forestry as a dismantler or sumPthin like that.
Tourism ?, what is this madness you speak off, TOURISM ?, that makes money and employs more people, dont forget, its only forestry workers who have the right to feed their family's. So I'll hear no more of this, supposed Tourism
Adverts are for our future in tourism.you are met by a ranger at the airport sporting a shirt with gumleaf logo, this man will take you to the airwalk and will tell you how they-NOT WE-they manage trees, big ones an small ones, this will recoup $55mill sssssshhhh and no one will ask about the deals sssssshhhhh and how a natural resourse has been harvested and DA MONEY WENT SOMEWHERE
Oh my goodness... Those protesters are so brave and should know the vast majority of Australians are behind them all the way. The behaviour of those logging thugs is absolutely appaling, as anyone with half a brain would realize.
I remember a father on tv,his son was being annoying and he flicked a shifter at his sons hand and it hit the edging on the cement garage floor and flicked up and hit his son in the head and now hes severely handicapped.what we intend and what ends up happening is anyones guess,we just cant let a scare tactic end up lethal and some poor bastard going to prison.its like the car being burnt, could there be someone in it,arson to murder.great chatting with you.
These attacks look pretty unhinged, and it's a bad response to protests. Bet it felt great. Bet it sets forestry's cause back no end, and serve 'em right.
I would say forestry has a lot to explain along with the government as they are useing workers as pawns to rip off a resourse for mates rates and the workers pay,or should i say dont get paid fairly.Guns and government = forestry = $55million in the red
I am also looking at the time frame as you and i are looking at 1min 37sec of video and we both know that tapes go a lot longer so i presume there was discussion between all who were there taped before and after, that you and i will not see,
I looked at it again and the verbal assault which was threatening and directed at the occupants of the vehicle.Did he intend to hit them-you cant say no you were not there.BUT the verbal words he said indicate YES.Daniel you are asking the question but you are not putting yourself there where in most situations like that go wrong, the hammer slips and that man goes to prison for one stupid moment of anger.
Unless he was extremely uncoordinated, he wasn't intending to do what his verbal abuse indicated.
Only in the event that it does slip and kills somebody, can we then describe it as accidental 'lethal force', because any action could potentially be lethal.
You have a good point there,if the worker was not yelling in a threatening manner then it would be assault but threatening manner with a sledge as a weapon -iffy
i have a hammer in my car its harmless.then someone goes into my parking spot and so i go up to his car screaming in an intimidating manner telling him to get out then start bashing into the car,the hammer then is a weapon and lethal, the occupant is in fear with the screaming and the attack-[[lethal attack. ]]a screw driver is a screwdriver but threaten someone-its a lethal weapon
How is it lethal force if that driver's life was not in danger? Did you intend to hit the driver? Because there was no indication that the workers were attacking the protesters will the sledgehammer, only the car. Did the person in the video: Hit the protesters with the hammer? no Did he intend to? no Did he endanger the lives of the protesters? no Did anyone die? no So how was it lethal? I don't know how austscout came to such a ridiculous conclusion.
Telling someones intention from a video is impossible. but one of the protestors was "thrown to the ground and kicked as he scrambled out of the car", according to reports, so obviously this was not only property damage.
As the protestors have said they "would like logging contractors to focus their anger on companies like Gunns Ltd who continue to support an economically unsustainable logging industry".
Not to mention this forest has potential World Heritage value. surrounded by heritage areas.
there was no physical provication and the workers were not in fear of their lives so lethal force is not justified and the verbal threat and the sledge hammer therefore is lethal force.unless the worker was banging in steel pickets or any other work that a hammer is used for.
That's absolutely RIDICULOUS, how the hell do you call that lethal force??? They smashed the car, not the people inside it! You do know the definition of 'lethal', right???
thats the man and thats the words, with that pulp mill he spoke of 1000 plus jobs and that went down to 260 jobs.i would say the sums were done by the same bloke forestry has.they spent $6mill at that town in the derwent valley with some heritage thing and thats defunked and they cant give a breakdown where $6mill went ???????? they should be made explain.
i agree with you.the big brother is ripping off the worker, they are putting the contractor in to get out as much as they can and the 20 year old worker at age 40 will have nothing to log.those blokes work long hours for crap wages and thats not the contracters fault with overheads and i bet Gunns quadrupels the bank balance.the rats name is GG Gunns n Government
i dont think they are brain dead.they have employment but Gunns is getting the cream at the expence of the worker plus our old forests when they have their own plantations, the forestry is screaming $55million in dept when the trees were free to sell to Gunns, so who is diddling the books and why is the contracter owing $ half a mill + on machines.there is a rat in the pantry in tassie.
Yeh wasn't it John Gay that said in that interview last year that if Gunns didn't employ these people they'd be out robbing and stealing? Geez he really has a high opinion of his own workforce doesn't he?
when you look at that area and further south Gunns seem to have the monopoly on all that timber, why not have the contractors selling to the mills.why only Gunns,i got a friend who wanted to get a log to mill on his portable mill and he was told he had to buy off Gunns.
...this is one reason I am serioulsy considering leaving Tasmania, this is the mentality. Logging thinks it is above the law and can do what it likes, all along legistaltion is passed that protects these morons. I am sick of Tassie, sick to death.
I agree - there are just too many brain-dead rednecks here. The place seemed to be improving with more open minded intelligent people moving here from the mainland - but unfortunately the redneck locals aren't ever going to change - all that inbreeding I suppose. Sad thing is that people like me will leave and they'll continue to trash the place and when they've finished doing that they might just realise what they've done but it will be too late. And the dumb thickheads won't even care.
rednecks ah, well just look at your username u IDIOT tassiechick...And as for the brain-dead, you better stop lookin in the mirror love. Hey tassie isn't doin anything that other states arent... what a bunch of tossers you are. If you hate tassie that much then leave i will even come help ya pack and take ya to the airport u IDIOT. INBREEDING ha ha ha ha ha ha , have ya asked ya mother where you came from, a one night stand with a bikie from a pub. piss off back to the BRONX dickhead.
hey Tassiechick that's some pretty dumb calls your making there. Tasmania was the birthplace of the world's 1st green party in 70's. Was that the "open minded intelligent people moving from the mainland"? Spend any length of time in Melbourne and Sydney - what do you think the vast mass of the 'burbs is made up of? Greenies? Lol! Or brain dead mofo's being drip-fed on TV? Greens have got to win over the rednecks if they're ever gonna get anywhere. That sort of intellectual snobbery doesn't help.
Yeh you're probably right, except the majority of the mainlanders moving here aren't your typical suburban mofo's, but people who've seen that Tassie still has so much of what the mainland's already lost. That's WHY they come here. Unfortunately many of the locals just don't realise how precious it is. I'm just so sick of the anti "greenie" abusive redneck aspect of Tasmania - do you think it's possible to ever win them over? I really doubt it. But OK I shouldn't stoop to their level....
the ONLY way for things to change is to win them over! Myself personally, I think social justice, the environment, workers rights, food politics, it's all in the same bundle matey!
And like I say, Tasmania, I'm guessing, would probably have the highest green vote in the country by a long shot. And there are and always have been plenty of good hearted folks who aren't "green", anyways! Don't let loudmouth rednecks bother you. Vocal minority an' all that hehehe :o
.... but that's not to say there aren't a large number of complete deadshits commenting in this forum! Who's to say they are actually working class loggers? They could all be spin arseholes for all we know, working for Timber "Communities" Australia, or other corporate forestry lobby groups who pretend to represent workers interests......
Since when has provocation ever been a defense, legally or morally? Elementary school children are taught that two wrongs don't make a right. If the protestors are trepassing, vandalising or breaking the law, then they should answer to the law. If the loggers are breaking the law, then they too must answer to the law. Provocation does NOT equal justification. If it did there would be vigalante rule and open season on anyone who annoys us. Only a moral imbicile would advocate that.
Sure it might have been wrong for them to react like that, but most of the blame lies with the provocateurs. Yet too many people are short-sighted enough to see only the wrongs of the workers.
These people are the protesters' intended audience, because these people are too damn short-sighted to see that it is one of their dirty tactics to portray the workers as crooks.
Besides, smashing the car is equivalent to vandalizing equipment, since nobody was injured.
i dont think so daniel,i bet if the state government said we support the tasmanian workers and they have the right to tasmanian resourses then the whole attitude to the resourse would change, the multi nationals just got bailed out by the taxpayer but i bet mr Gunns wont knock on our door and say thankyou.
Unfortunately loosegears provocation HAS been a legal defense for many years. I don't know if it applies in cases of property damage BUT it definately applies for a charge of murder - it reduces the charge from murder to manslaughter. Queensland Gov is one govt that is currently reviewing the provocation defense. Basically it works on the belief that some times people are provoked and are UNABLE to control themselves. I say bull shit we ALL have to learn to control ourselves.
I can't see the reasoning behind that, its like asking people not to cry at a funeral.
Furthermore, this was the reaction the protesters were TRYING to provoke, why else would they have someone hiding in the trees waiting to record it?
Provocation is a legal defense and it should definitely stay that way.
The workers were doing their job (in accordance with the law, might I add), they weren't the ones looking for trouble, I can't see how it is fair to blame them.
Really what u say on here does not make a diffence cause monday we will be back at work and there is nothing you can do, come protest but u will be carted out by the police if your lucky or suffer what the clowns in this video got. We will go back to work again so do ur best the big picture is u cant stop it and wont stop it.
what makes you come to that conclusion, are you the only one that thinks he is the lone ranger in the bush, its a womans world too and we also come from farms use heavy machinery and have fallers tickets.or are you one of them to.
she needs to open a 44 gallon drum of woop-ass on you and drag you into line, your language and attutude is atrocious and you give us in the bush a bad report.
@ AUSTSCOUT If i dont work near there how would this u wanker, i have even seen the photos of 2 burnt out cars that where on the site. it was done at around 12pm last night. One the Log truck drivers was going call the police cause they dont have a permit for fires out there but then realised that the camp had been burnt out, laughed and kept going. Fuckin funny to me as well. and if u must no I live near New Norfolk cock sucker.
grennies all need flogging. no one shows videos of what them dirty bums do to logging contractors to send them to breaking point i would do the same too.Good on the contractors for sticking up for there livelyhood
you greenie pricks are just a bunch of oxygen theives theres only so much the logging contractors can take. putting up with your crap chaining yourselfs to logging equipment who do you think you are go out and get a frigin job and stop bludgeing of our government. they should put all you greenie pricks on an island away from all the civilised hard working people so you can smoke your bongs and climb up all the bloody trees you want without pissin the hard working logging contractors off.
what the contractors have not looked at is the plantation base situation that the multinational companies have set in place for future resources. When you look at the big picture i can see companies like gunns dumping 80% of the contractors as these plantations will be harvested by machines so one man can do most of the work.something wrong is down the track,
Its great to see such anger control among our working force. This is a definite sign we should build a pulp mill to have even more angry assholes. Then they can go and flaunt the right to protest by beating up people. Awesome. Timberworker, what on earth are you talking about. People are already complaining to the government. If the workers had a problem they should have called the police instead of skitzing out like children.
Even the most timid of people will react if they are repeatedly harassed like this. I'm willing to bet that if you were continually harassed by a group of people, you are going to react, because most of the group won't be around by the time the police arrive. Those people will be back to harass you again.
You are the target audience of these protesters, you only see the reaction of the workers which the protesters intended to provoke.
Look that is a lame excuse that was disproved long ago. There was a car there, the car can have its number plates noted, if this is so common the logger could have taken photographs of the people. If the logger is so happy to use force, he could have attempted to detain the people untill police arrived.
The truth is the logger just lost his temper.
I think its about time that environmentalists understood loggers economic positions and loggers stopped avoiding environmental issues.
I've worked in industries that people dislike too - did i want to? No. But sometimes there aren't too many jobs going, and you need to eat.
I agree though, that the logging should be stopped and the corporations see to it that handsome redundancies are paid and all workers are found new jobs in sustainable industries.
I thought the protest was against the logging of old growth forests. If they harvested more from plantations instead of old growth forests, wouldn't it have more or less the same effect on our air quality?
"so if we dont stop you, you wont HAVE a family to feed"
Uh... yes he will. Can't we leave the hugely exaggerated Greenpeace scaremongering tactics out of this argument? That's in line with the fiery apocalypse that is ACA's idea of global warming.
"If they harvested more from plantations instead of old growth forests, wouldn't it have more or less the same effect on our air quality?"
No, because old growth forests store more carbon per m^2 than plantation forests, due to the age of the trees.
Read up on the science of it before making outrageous claims.
Not only that, there are many other good reasons for keeping old growth (bio-diversity, animal habitat, not to mention higher value for tourism than for woodchips).
Comments have been switched off owing to rampant stupidity.

LogTruckDriver1972 3 years ago
I like driving trucks and have done it all over Australia and carted just about everythihng you can think. So you could probaly say that Im not even a real logging industry worker but I have seen the crap that the contractors have to put up with and the absolute lies that are told about the and it shits me to tears. My opion is that you are picking on the wrong people and its wrong. If convert 1 person from logging to your way of thing there is going to be someone to take his place.
LogTruckDriver1972 3 years ago
The funny thing is we wont lose our jobs not in your or my lifetime because wether you like it or not people need timber products, In your email to me you said that you did not no that you needed a University Degree's that enable you to drive a truck, you are right you dont but dont think for 1 second that a peace of paper makes you a better or smarter person. I have had a lot of jobs I used to be a Tech Support Desk Supervisor for one of the biggest gaming compaies in Aust. but I was not happy

I'm sick of this garbage, if someone was threatening my livelihood in the way these protesters are i'd be doing far more than scaring them with a sledge hammer or axe. people have a right to protest but not at other peoples expense. they should go strap themselves to politicians doors or parliament house or something. i bet if a logger chained himself to the wilderness society door he'd be arrested in a heart beat. maybe that's what they should be doing.
gotalifegetonetoo 3 years ago
the protesters should train in jiujitsu, and choke the big fat aussie lumberjacks out
jdiscount 3 years ago
Regardless of what happens to the woodchips, or if the greenies dont want the trees chopped down, the people protesting are a-holes. The loggers don't log wherever they like, they are told where they can log, if the protesters want an area protected they should take it up with the people who make decisions, not the people trying to earn a living.
The greenies attacked first, the loggers simply retaliated. If someone was stopping me from earning a living id probably defend myself too.
uncleshibba 3 years ago
Dont get me wrong and the protesters know that what you say, at the moment the government is doing deals with companies at mates rates.i personally would help a contractor load his logs and sell them to the right person at the right price if the money went to the contractor, that way he would select the best and be debt free with a crew working safely. Why give to the rich they have enough.
austscout 3 years ago
the timber coming from the florentine is mostly chipped and sent overseas on ships that dump their balast in our waters and infest our seabed with nastys such as crown of thorn starfish.there is no reason for taking old growth for our domestic market as hemp could be used and we already have enough plantations, what goes out of tassie now is all bahama hollidays for the rich at the cost of our forest,

Our govmt done deals with multinationals and heads rolled.a premier ran, they blame the police.and it boils down to one guy and the state government are covering their tracks through parliament. The loggers want work and it is there but the multinationals want to strip the forest before they take their own plantations. With this our forestry knows everything and does nothing they even watch asaults in their [OUR]forests,
imallwoman 3 years ago
To true the government is slill doing deals. What a rich state we have in our special timbers, hemp for paper, selected trees for furniture.plantation for everything else.old growth and native for tours and wildlife
imallwoman 3 years ago
The attitude of both the Tasmanian government and the logging industry is appalling. They are condoning violence. If it was the other way around you can be assured that people would have been arrested immediately and the government would be calling for gaol terms. In newspapers in Vic & NSW the Tas government uses images of pristine rainforest to lure tourists to the island state; these same areas that the protesters who were violently attacked by logging industry thugs are trying to protect.

I call on all Mainland Australians to boycott all things Tasmanian, including travel and all produce.
ozdesmo 3 years ago
As a Gunns Ltd share holder this sort of behaviour from people who are effectively representatives of Gunns Ltd is not acceptable.
Letters will be written. Words will be spoken at the AGM.
There is at least 1 share holder who demands the immediate cessation of old growth logging and the immediate termination of these peoples contracts.
They can find some other way of paying their mortgages.

gunnsworthnothing 3 years ago
The individual actions here are of little consquence to the real issues at play. These are:
1. The importance of protecting the environment, especially a forest surrounded by world heritage areas, which the World Conservation Union has labbeled as "having potential World Heritage value".
2. How do progressive environmental movements work with rather than against progressive labour movements.
3. How to trace this back to those who profit i.e. governments and corporations.
Strummerkid 3 years ago
I applaud your statements but the Tas logging union, the CFMEU is in no way progressive. They supported John Howard rather than take a $800m bail out from the ALP; they just like to destroy forests and see that as their god given right & nothing will stop them, not even the lose of 1000's of jobs as preferred contractors and mates of the CFMEU get all the work and Gunns get chips for $10 a ton, sucking $ out of the Tas economy to prop up a corporation while the CFMEU heavies laugh at the workers
ozdesmo 3 years ago
I in no way condone this behaviour but it seems your attacking a whole UMBRELLA union when in fact it is only the forestery division of the CFMEU that supported the logging. The construction and energy divisions of the CFMEU would never support a liberal government due to many attacks on the rights of workers under the libs including the royal cole commission and the ABCC. The loggers here display disgustingly violent behaviour, however get your facts right before labelling and attacking a group
angusyounga 3 years ago
Yeah the forestry branch of the CFMEU is rotten, but despite that, the rest of the union is still one of the most progressive unions, and one of the few to describe its self as a class-struggle based union.
You understand that CFMEU is in branches of Contruction, Forestry etc etc.

imallwoman 3 years ago
Tourism is a new word in tasmania,it is about letting the world know that we have a green image and heaps of fun places you WOOD like to visit.BUT some of the good spots are not realy good so they put gates so you dont go see them, and to make sure you dont they employ OLD SLEDGER.yep Old Sledger goes around breaking glass outa cars, dont quote me but think hes employed by ward 1A forestry as a dismantler or sumPthin like that.
tripz250 3 years ago
Tourism ?, what is this madness you speak off, TOURISM ?, that makes money and employs more people, dont forget, its only forestry workers who have the right to feed their family's. So I'll hear no more of this, supposed Tourism
LoggerCull 3 years ago
Adverts are for our future in tourism.you are met by a ranger at the airport sporting a shirt with gumleaf logo, this man will take you to the airwalk and will tell you how they-NOT WE-they manage trees, big ones an small ones, this will recoup $55mill sssssshhhh and no one will ask about the deals sssssshhhhh and how a natural resourse has been harvested and DA MONEY WENT SOMEWHERE
austscout 3 years ago

These attacks look pretty unhinged, and it's a bad response to protests. Bet it felt great. Bet it sets forestry's cause back no end, and serve 'em right.
haggidubious 3 years ago
I would say forestry has a lot to explain along with the government as they are useing workers as pawns to rip off a resourse for mates rates and the workers pay,or should i say dont get paid fairly.Guns and government = forestry = $55million in the red
austscout 3 years ago
I am also looking at the time frame as you and i are looking at 1min 37sec of video and we both know that tapes go a lot longer so i presume there was discussion between all who were there taped before and after, that you and i will not see,
tripz250 3 years ago
I looked at it again and the verbal assault which was threatening and directed at the occupants of the vehicle.Did he intend to hit them-you cant say no you were not there.BUT the verbal words he said indicate YES.Daniel you are asking the question but you are not putting yourself there where in most situations like that go wrong, the hammer slips and that man goes to prison for one stupid moment of anger.
tripz250 3 years ago
Unless he was extremely uncoordinated, he wasn't intending to do what his verbal abuse indicated.
Only in the event that it does slip and kills somebody, can we then describe it as accidental 'lethal force', because any action could potentially be lethal.
daniel007233 3 years ago
You have a good point there,if the worker was not yelling in a threatening manner then it would be assault but threatening manner with a sledge as a weapon -iffy
tripz250 3 years ago
i have a hammer in my car its harmless.then someone goes into my parking spot and so i go up to his car screaming in an intimidating manner telling him to get out then start bashing into the car,the hammer then is a weapon and lethal, the occupant is in fear with the screaming and the attack-[[lethal attack. ]]a screw driver is a screwdriver but threaten someone-its a lethal weapon
austscout 3 years ago
daniel007233 3 years ago
Telling someones intention from a video is impossible. but one of the protestors was "thrown to the ground and kicked as he scrambled out of the car", according to reports, so obviously this was not only property damage.
As the protestors have said they "would like logging contractors to focus their anger on companies like Gunns Ltd who continue to support an economically unsustainable logging industry".
Not to mention this forest has potential World Heritage value. surrounded by heritage areas.
Strummerkid 3 years ago
there was no physical provication and the workers were not in fear of their lives so lethal force is not justified and the verbal threat and the sledge hammer therefore is lethal force.unless the worker was banging in steel pickets or any other work that a hammer is used for.
austscout 3 years ago
That's absolutely RIDICULOUS, how the hell do you call that lethal force??? They smashed the car, not the people inside it! You do know the definition of 'lethal', right???
daniel007233 3 years ago
thats the man and thats the words, with that pulp mill he spoke of 1000 plus jobs and that went down to 260 jobs.i would say the sums were done by the same bloke forestry has.they spent $6mill at that town in the derwent valley with some heritage thing and thats defunked and they cant give a breakdown where $6mill went ???????? they should be made explain.

i agree with you.the big brother is ripping off the worker, they are putting the contractor in to get out as much as they can and the 20 year old worker at age 40 will have nothing to log.those blokes work long hours for crap wages and thats not the contracters fault with overheads and i bet Gunns quadrupels the bank balance.the rats name is GG Gunns n Government
austscout 3 years ago
i dont think they are brain dead.they have employment but Gunns is getting the cream at the expence of the worker plus our old forests when they have their own plantations, the forestry is screaming $55million in dept when the trees were free to sell to Gunns, so who is diddling the books and why is the contracter owing $ half a mill + on machines.there is a rat in the pantry in tassie.
imallwoman 3 years ago
Yeh wasn't it John Gay that said in that interview last year that if Gunns didn't employ these people they'd be out robbing and stealing? Geez he really has a high opinion of his own workforce doesn't he?
tassiechick25 3 years ago
when you look at that area and further south Gunns seem to have the monopoly on all that timber, why not have the contractors selling to the mills.why only Gunns,i got a friend who wanted to get a log to mill on his portable mill and he was told he had to buy off Gunns.

...this is one reason I am serioulsy considering leaving Tasmania, this is the mentality. Logging thinks it is above the law and can do what it likes, all along legistaltion is passed that protects these morons. I am sick of Tassie, sick to death.
ifantwentythree 3 years ago
I agree - there are just too many brain-dead rednecks here. The place seemed to be improving with more open minded intelligent people moving here from the mainland - but unfortunately the redneck locals aren't ever going to change - all that inbreeding I suppose. Sad thing is that people like me will leave and they'll continue to trash the place and when they've finished doing that they might just realise what they've done but it will be too late. And the dumb thickheads won't even care.
tassiechick25 3 years ago
rednecks ah, well just look at your username u IDIOT tassiechick...And as for the brain-dead, you better stop lookin in the mirror love. Hey tassie isn't doin anything that other states arent... what a bunch of tossers you are. If you hate tassie that much then leave i will even come help ya pack and take ya to the airport u IDIOT. INBREEDING ha ha ha ha ha ha , have ya asked ya mother where you came from, a one night stand with a bikie from a pub. piss off back to the BRONX dickhead.
sjemov 3 years ago
hey Tassiechick that's some pretty dumb calls your making there. That sort of intellectual snobbery doesn't help.
cheeseepeas 3 years ago
Yeh you're probably right, except the majority of the mainlanders moving here aren't your typical suburban mofo's, but people who've seen that Tassie still has so much of what the mainland's already lost. That's WHY they come here. Unfortunately many of the locals just don't realise how precious it is. I'm just so sick of the anti "greenie" abusive redneck aspect of Tasmania - do you think it's possible to ever win them over? I really doubt it. But OK I shouldn't stoop to their level....
tassiechick25 3 years ago
the ONLY way for things to change is to win them over!
Vocal minority an' all that hehehe :o
cheeseepeas 3 years ago
.... but that's not to say there aren't a large number of complete deadshits commenting in this forum! Who's to say they are actually working class loggers? They could all be spin arseholes for all we know, working for Timber "Communities" Australia, or other corporate forestry lobby groups who pretend to represent workers interests......
cheeseepeas 3 years ago
Since when has provocation ever been a defense, legally or morally? Elementary school children are taught that two wrongs don't make a right. If the protestors are trepassing, vandalising or breaking the law, then they should answer to the law. If the loggers are breaking the law, then they too must answer to the law. Provocation does NOT equal justification. If it did there would be vigalante rule and open season on anyone who annoys us. Only a moral imbicile would advocate that.
loosegears 3 years ago
Sure it might have been wrong for them to react like that, but most of the blame lies with the provocateurs. Yet too many people are short-sighted enough to see only the wrongs of the workers.
These people are the protesters' intended audience, because these people are too damn short-sighted to see that it is one of their dirty tactics to portray the workers as crooks.
Besides, smashing the car is equivalent to vandalizing equipment, since nobody was injured.
daniel007233 3 years ago
i dont think so daniel,i bet if the state government said we support the tasmanian workers and they have the right to tasmanian resourses then the whole attitude to the resourse would change, the multi nationals just got bailed out by the taxpayer but i bet mr Gunns wont knock on our door and say thankyou.
imallwoman 3 years ago

The workers were doing their job (in accordance with the law, might I add), they weren't the ones looking for trouble, I can't see how it is fair to blame them.
daniel007233 3 years ago
Really what u say on here does not make a diffence cause monday we will be back at work and there is nothing you can do, come protest but u will be carted out by the police if your lucky or suffer what the clowns in this video got. austscout 3 years ago
What makes u say that?
Timberworker 3 years ago
what the contractors have not looked at is the plantation base situation that the multinational companies have set in place for future resources. When you look at the big picture i can see companies like gunns dumping 80% of the contractors as these plantations will be harvested by machines so one man can do most of the work.something wrong is down the track,
austscout 3 years ago
Its great to see such anger control among our working force. This is a definite sign we should build a pulp mill to have even more angry assholes. Then they can go and flaunt the right to protest by beating up people. Awesome. Timberworker, what on earth are you talking about. People are already complaining to the government. If the workers had a problem they should have called the police instead of skitzing out like children.
pitterpatter1616 3 years ago
Even the most timid of people will react if they are repeatedly harassed like this. I'm willing to bet that if you were continually harassed by a group of people, you are going to react, because most of the group won't be around by the time the police arrive. Those people will be back to harass you again.
You are the target audience of these protesters, you only see the reaction of the workers which the protesters intended to provoke.
daniel007233 3 years ago
Look that is a lame excuse that was disproved long ago. There was a car there, the car can have its number plates noted, if this is so common the logger could have taken photographs of the people. If the logger is so happy to use force, he could have attempted to detain the people untill police arrived.
The truth is the logger just lost his temper.
I think its about time that environmentalists understood loggers economic positions and loggers stopped avoiding environmental issues.
Strummerkid 3 years ago
I've worked in industries that people dislike too - did i want to? No. But sometimes there aren't too many jobs going, and you need to eat.
I agree though, that the logging should be stopped and the corporations see to it that handsome redundancies are paid and all workers are found new jobs in sustainable industries.

"Thats cause ur a gutless pack of cunts u all think its ok to fuck with the way we make a living and feed our families. "

Well the way you make a living fucks with the air we breath, so if we dont stop you, you wont HAVE a family to feed... bonehead.
larryhoganandthesuga 3 years ago 2
I thought the protest was against the logging of old growth forests. If they harvested more from plantations instead of old growth forests, wouldn't it have more or less the same effect on our air quality?
"so if we dont stop you, you wont HAVE a family to feed"
Uh... yes he will. Can't we leave the hugely exaggerated Greenpeace scaremongering tactics out of this argument? That's in line with the fiery apocalypse that is ACA's idea of global warming.
daniel007233 3 years ago
plantations are sustainable, and old growth forest is not.
bigredtaxi 3 years ago
Did you even read what I wrote?
daniel007233 3 years ago
"If they harvested more from plantations instead of old growth forests, wouldn't it have more or less the same effect on our air quality?"
No, because old growth forests store more carbon per m^2 than plantation forests, due to the age of the trees.
Read up on the science of it before making outrageous claims.
Not only that, there are many other good reasons for keeping old growth (bio-diversity, animal habitat, not to mention higher value for tourism than for woodchips).
jkburges 3 years ago
No I'm not making any claims, you see the "?" at the end of that? Its called a question mark.
daniel007233 3 years ago 2
Sorry for my ordinary understanding of English, but I assumed from the context that it was a rhetorical question :-)
So, anyway, the answer is 'No', as I said.
