  • lol, "i might hurt myself chewing on the end of my pencil" he says while chewing on the end of his pencil.

You make drawing very interesting and I would like to say thank you for the great videos and tutorials, your way of thinking about art is very intriguing and fun.

  • For anyone who's curious, graphite is a substance made entirely of carbon arranged in layers a single atom thick in a hexagonal pattern. Because the atomic bond between the layers is very weak, they slide across each other very easily, making it ideal for drawing and dry lubrication. If I remember right, common pencil "lead" is made by combining graphite and clay baked together, and that different kinds of graphite(#2, HB, etc.) are made by slightly altering the ratios between graphite and clay.

  • this vedios reall helps me can u email me ur all vedios plz...

  • Why is it all thee dopey libs hate Wall Mart, but continue to shop there? Ah yes, it's because they're dopey libs, and they hate Wall Mart because some other dopey lib told them to to hate Wall Mart. Makes sense, just like voting for obama makes sense, but they will again because that's what their told to do.

  • i learned so much from this!

  • What brand ae they?

  • yes! Wal-mart sucks!

  • all u need is a hb 2b 4b and a 9b.

  • Has anyone ever told you that you kind of look like Spencer from iCarly?

  • 17 ppl are left out too : (

  • graphite is carbon just with a different modification.

  • I use 4H to start, making base lines. BH for shadow and lineing and a 9B for permanent lines, as it's almost imposible to remove. This has worked out well for me so far. Caution though. If your using collor the 2B to 9B pencils will smudge the collor with the black. This WILL ruin your day. ( At lest my day )

Funn fact: The word "Soft" is "Bløt" inn Norwegian, starting with a "B". Therefor i'v always been told the "B" stands for soft.

  • use charcoal....does any shade...i luvs it

  • I use HB, 2H, H, B, and 5B. I never understood what F was for but I still use it sometimes for light strokes.

  • You got me fooled by the start of your tutorial. Bt it's sure interesting. I love the painting behind u, every pantings in every tutorial videos . Good work. I want to see more.

  • This guy is a legend!!!

  • i had a pencil kit when i was 8... so obviously i lost them...

  • i went to michaels today and i just could not find the kneaded eraser...i bought a tri tip eraser thinking it was the same thing and nope...even tho it erases really well....

  • Hard? Black?

    Thats what she said XP

But seriously your art are awesome!

  • you are amazing i have had a pencil kit not knowing anything about why there names the way they are . you saved me money on an art lesson!

  • I don't live in America, and I'm curious, why do you hate walmart? Does everyone hate walmart?

  • i love PEZ

  • Awesome I already have those pencils. They weren't in the sewing section of the walmart here though. They were with the music cd's and movie dvd's....

  • pencils do have numbers ha its the hardness of the lead i use #3 quite often in construction because the lead doesnt wear down so easily on the wood... just FYI :)

  • you look like Jesus.... of ART!

  • I use the same pencils but i use an 8B too.

  • whahaha! i love the intro part of this video...

  • hard and black do go well together.. if you get what i mean ;)

  • those 7.99 pencils he got at walmart, I paid 18.99 at michaels! They are ripping everybody off.

  • 1:12 lol... epicness

  • I have a number 555 (Extra black)

  • I love you, Jason! :D

  • ahahahaha, nice presentation ... good

  • go DR. pepper WOO haha

  • no way! i want the Dr. pepper pants haha... and btw F stands for Fine point, great vids man

  • no way! i want the DR. pepper pants hahaha

  • "F" stands for "FINE" . The use is still a mistery for me... Very interesting lessons. Congratulations.

  • The number system is a U.S. system for measuring pencils... A #2 is roughly equivalent to an HB. 2 1/2 and 3 are F and H respectively.

Pencils sold in places that cater to artists that are marked "HB" are certainly a lot nicer than pencils from Wal-Mart that say #2 on them, that much is for sure!

Thanks for the videos. I usually just draw things that make real artists angry but lately I've been trying to get some mechanics down.

  • U R AWesOME!!!

  • he reminds me of icarly when spencer was teaching carly about the history of yellow XD im learning about the history of led but really your awesome and im buying a drawing set with all the things i need to draw so im really happy i subbed

  • I hate my H and F pencils...they are always scratchy

  • thanks again for making it fun, go dr pepper and pez!

  • lol 1:22. just looked funny. idk.

  • :( I use mechanical pencils. And the pencils are of points(like 0.3, 0.5, 0.7} mm)

  • Yikes. Haha, the darkest pencil I've ever used is a 6B O___O....

On another side note, I always thought the B stood for "blend", or at least, that's what my art teacher calls them. "Hard Blend", and, well, "Bendable".

  • Crap... Every pencil in my house is an 'f'. Just joking; great video.

  • Pearl Arts&Crafts and A.C Moore ;)

  • "F" is for fine point :)

  • Yeah I have a scale pencil set too...2H HB 2B 2B B6 Normal graphite pencils are 2H

  • thanx!!!

    *

  • I use 2H, HB, B, 2B, 3B and 6B

  • Dr pepper sleeping pants ahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • They use No. 2 pencils on MCA tests

  • You are very interesting to listen to sir. Lots of information and a little humor on the side. I'm enjoying your videos so far, and look forward to getting into the fun stuff.

I also hate Walmart. It really is evil, isn't it? I swear, I went in to buy a cell phone and came out with a bunch of groceries the other day...How does that even happen?

  • Man, I couldnt learn more. You really know what you are doing and you know how to teach. Conratulations.

  • Ninja Turtle PEZ... Classic. Yes... they do look a bit buffer than they used to be. I always go to Michaels for art supplies.

  • If you sketch and use incremental lines instead of long strokes, H pencils are your best bet if you want very light and non-choppy sketches and the so on. I love your videos about lead grades. It has helped a lot and my sketching lines don't look so choppy any more.

  • WOOT To the Dr. Pepper!!! Thats wicked! Im am so addicted to it. I dont like walmart either. cept Ilive in a small town and wallie world is all we have.....

  • the intro was epic

  • @bacardi2324 : - if you don't like it don't f*ckin watch it , at least he's doing something good for thousands of people who watch and learn .. but you are just have nothing to do but trying to show off , get the f*ck out of here

  • the part of the wall mart, genius xD

  • @XDNadine "2 hours later..." HAHAHAHA WOW TAHT LONG??

  • f= fine point. it's the point at which a pencil will start to hold it's point shape well

  • Lol i like the walmart part, its so true! Whilst the pencils are in the sewing department the tissue paper is not by the nyquil where I believe it should be but in the stinking grocery department!!! note he went for pencils and came out with several things :P walmart conspiracy

  • how do u point youre pencils like that?

  • 4:30, I recall you ripping the steel and eraser from that pencil.

  • lol i have the same pencil kit!!!

  • te doy graciay felicito desde argentina

  • lol woot, i have walmart pencils too xD

  • i see why you hate wal-mart.. the one you have there is obviously run by crazy people.. they put their pencils in the sewing section.. not all wal-marts do that, lol.. I'm guessing just that one

  • i have..some kind of look like roseart pencils...

  • I guessed it, walmart rofl.

  • If The No. 2 Pencil is the most commonly used pencil in the world.

Why isn't it No. 1? XD

  • Because literally they don't mean placement ..the numbers represent how dark the lead within it will be...but answering that question without being literal...because first is the worst and second is the best : )

  • Clever..lol!

  • I hope you know that pencils were NEVER made of lead and were always made of graphite or charcoal the term leads came from the color of the graphite resembling lead in some ways.

  • Well, since I'm just a novice at drawing I have to thank you a lot, because your videos clear a lot of questions out and this one will help me choosing my pencils next time. I'll give my best, keep it on!

    Great job you are doing.

    Greets from Germany!.. =)

  • go to an art store and find pencil kits

  • Number 3 yellow pencils exist. I have a few 3 numbered pencils and they're harder/lighter than number 2 pencils

  • Apparently, according to something I saw on TV, pencils were never made with lead it's all a load of nonsense. Who knows but nice vids pal :).

  • lol the very beginning <3

  • when he said a place he hates, i just knew he was going to walmart

  • Luckily i have an almost unlimited supply of (kinda) free pencils. School!

  • sowing section. lol.

  • In Denmark we call B pencils "Blød" which is basically just "soft" ... I never heard about the B, being for black xD

The H pencils we refer to as "Hård" which is hard

I guess we're just that cool... (Naah)

Great job on these videos.. You have a very pleasant voice :D

  • But I love Wal-mart...They do sell pencils. Atleast in the Wal-mart I go to the pencils are in the office supplies isle. Atleast I think it is...lol.

You're funny and a great teacher. I love the lessons. Can't wait to learn some more from your vdos.

  • oh my gosh. i love the kneadable erasers, it helps so much!!!

  • hey! i love drawing and i love science. i like how you seem to combine the two, i'm such a nerd lol.

These are great and your funny keep it up.

  • The 8B he showed seemed more like charcoal 0_o Pencils can never be THAT dark AND non-reflective.

  • yes they can, if you buy the right kind

  • i love dr pepper. ur funny

  • I'm also addicted to Dr. Pepper, probably the best drink ever made. Of course, in my opinion

  • Underwear? xD

What has that to do with drawing? xD

    (PEZ rules)

  • Thank you! I find this video very helpful and also entertaining. I've been using pencils for some time but never knew what kind of the pencil "F" is :D And I usually prefer 2H, HB, 2B, 4B and 7B pencils :) Once again thank you for the video.

  • OMG! The intro, you dissing Walmart, and so on and so on.. you're great : D

  • LOL poor pencil.... xD

  • lol 7:13 first good drawing Ive seen.

  • definately "buffer" definately "scarier"...it's not just you LOL

  • I favorited and rated this purely for the opening, I haven't even watched the rest yet, lol.

  • the start is so funny:)) you are great

  • You;'re REALLY good.

couldn't help but watch another one.

You made your videos interesting, informative and entertaining.

So happy I found your vids!

  • You are a natural and I can sense that you are a light-hearted man. Anyone who has those qualities will always be able to create wonderful things. Wish there can be more people like you. People who who are able to tap their brain's potentials and use it to help others. Thanks for your passion in arts.

  • haha dude your awesome.

  • LOL WALMART!!

  • I laughed my butt out with the intro.

  • Dude, I have those Dr. Pepper pants... LOL... I actually have a pair like that, then another pair that's black as the main color. =)

  • I got an 8B! I was supposed yo be getting an HB. But I got run out of it at the store! XD

  • That's freaken hilarious man! I just went to Wal-Mart today and bought those EXACT same set of pencils in the Arts and Crafts section. Exept I bought Nutrigrain bars and Milk, oh and socks.

  • Dude! Where's your underwear? You forgot to buy one! LOL XD

  • I like the way you sneak your opinions into your art topics. It's quite entertaining. some say the #2 pencil is an HB pencil, as for WallMart making stuff affordable well they make you buy big packs, so I wouldn't call that affordable. I'd rather spend my money buying more variety than one single necessity. Jealousy at successful companies, nah just common sense.

  • this guy cracks me up, btw, i really dug the science talk, i do biology and art at school so it was way cool to hear all that stuff.

  • whoa, everything only about an everyday thing...

Never knew that there are that much differences!

    and sorry if I speak a bit...strange. I'm german!^^

  • this guy is a genius. "I've never seen a #1 or 3 pencil."

  • i thought the same - but hey I really enjoy his vids...

  • what Wal-mart do you go to?

mine has pencils in the school supplies...lol

  • Walmart actually keeps them in the "arts and crafts" section for actual art supplies like drawing pencils, etc.

  • I've learnt more from yr videos than all my art lessons put together in the last 3 years.. Thank you so much! (I'm taking my art exam this year) :)

  • hey i work at wal - mart

  • i feel sorry for you...

  • There's nothing wrong with Wal-Mart...Wally world has enable many many people to afford things that otherwise might be to expensive etc... Some people just cant stand success that why you always have people bitching about those on top like Microsoft

  • oh my gosh. this guy is awesome!

  • I majored in Art & Graphic Design, yet I never understood what the different pencil names (HB, etc.) meant. Thanks!

  • Those pencils are terrible.

  • the Mars lumograph one is terrible? or the green one?

  • I'd be surprised if you could draw anything with a 9h, it must be really faint.

  • i like graphite , graphite is one of the allotropes of carbon. less harmful then lead ,

  • yea genius

  • F pencil stands for Fine pencil

  • Hahaha, good introduction :P

  • Just to put this you there...I just went to the dollar store and found a pack of graphic pencils for a buck :P it doesnt have them all but has up to 6b and 6h i think.

  • Can you come to my school and be my art teacher? xD

  • lol xD you're making great videos!

  • ROFL, u hate wal-mart too? Why? i hate them but i hate them for political and ethical reasons

  • Im pretty sure the # refers to how easily the graphite spreads or comes off.

  • haha you're goofy but these are extremely hlpful and informative

  • You can't pretend to despise walmart AND shop there!!! Have a backbone man!

  • Hahaha! I have those pajama pants!!

  • hard....

    hahahahahahahhaha

  • I HAVE THOSE DR. Pepper pants!!!! ahhhhhhhhh. hahahahahaha

  • There are #1 pencils, as well as #3 and #4. The lower the number, the darker and softer the lead is, however, the higher the number the lighter and harder the lead, and that's just one system. There are many more outside the US.

  • thanks forthe video, i am an art student and even my teachers don't explane it that well i find myself getting confused at the store with all the names

  • thanks for sharing your knowledge, its great

  • its just not a good quality

  • I liked the beginning!

  • You are not only an incredible artist, but very funny as well. lol

  • i have those pants!!!!!!

  • "thats exactly were to look for art supplies the sawing section!" lmao!

  • uhh its the sewing section not the sawing section!

  • I LOLed when u said "i just returned from probably one of the worst places on earth- walmart". hahaha. OMG i freakin love dr pepper too...and pez :)

  • I finally know what the HB stands for on those pencils. As well as possibly F, now. xD

    Thanks for this series! :D

  • i hate that pencil drawings go reflective X0

  • You remind me of a classmate that I had in art school. I hope he's as successful as you are now.

Good stuff, by the way. Cheers! :)

  • instead of getting different pencils

i just shade a bit harder...

    p.s.

    u funny man

  • you get a shine then.

  • haha how old are you?

  • dose it matter -.-

  • man now i know alot bout pencils
