  • Beautiful. But Lin's version has more energy and excitement.

  • "Taken from the Big Bands at Dorchester series". What is that? Is it available on tape or dvd (or more probably, was it)?

  • Leroy

    You are a GOD!

    Stay Tuned.......

    GEORGE

  • Where can I find this sheet music/score?

  • Definitely a Bach 37 & a Reeves piece. and definitely a HUGE SOUND

  • Looks like Charley is playing on his old Calicchio 1s/2 with a Reeves 43S...

He played on that for a while before coming out to L.A.

  • Always loved this chart...An incredible, musical performance by one of the best in the business...A great, great chart deserving of such a first rate performance...Charlies sound is of such high qualityand rich in all registers...It shows you how hard work pays off...Try to get my students to understand that this is what happens when you work your ass off...You can get results...Thanks, Charlie...I agree with Buddy's assessment...SWEEEEET!!

  • I can't stop watching this video, amazing! I love the cat with the stache at 2:34 too, haha.

  • all you douche bags need to know that chops and equip have nothing to do with anything!! charlie davis sounds unbelievable because he works harder than anyone else....he sounds the best because he works the hardest..

  • @goostreet1 Thats what we were saying......

  • What a douche. Buddy grabs his jaw afterwards. Any trumpet player will tell you that they hate when people do anything like that. I've had my lip split and couldn't play for 2 weeks afterwards when some fag hit my bell while I was playing. I've am now forever paranoid when anything gets close to my bell.

  • 3C and Bach 37 for lead playing. BEAST!!!!!

  • Charlie was (is?) a monster. Proof that fancy equipment is not necessary for incredible playing. This coming from a guy who owns three Monette mp's .... hehe. Then again, I'm not a tenth the player he is.

  • Exactly, he recommends all his student to play on something similar to this combo. And he still is incredible.

  • @cet0708 Is. Met him a few weeks ago. He's still going strong, and still has an amazing range and sound.

  • Buddy's comment "NICE TRY CHARLIE"...is in reference to Charlie trying to empty his spit on Buddys pants.....real lead players would have known that is what he was refering to......watch the video again CLOSELY

  • O yeah haha if you notice he is wiping his pants after besides he wouldn't attempt to humiliate which he wouldn't cause it was awsome a fine lead player like him.

  • Sometimes people laugh, because they do not know better, or are embarrassed.

You have one way of looking at it, I have annother - but I hope you enjoy Charlies playing and your own too.

  • the people on here who don't that the "nice try charlie" was a joke are complete and utter idiots..buddy loved charlie

wow the cluelessness I tell ya

  • Well, I stated my opinion, and you then call me and others "idiots". How on earth can you do that? Noone said anything bad, just commented, that "nice try Charlie" was not funny. Why not tell us something interesting instead. You do now things, or is it just fake what you tell???

  • did THEY laugh?

    yes they did

    case closed

  • sure I "know things" I'm too sure I understand the question though "or is what I tell fake" no, I never make up BS. if that's what you meant.

  • Charlie sounds great, Buddy was a jerk.

  • do you make it a habit to "miss" comedy?

my god how slow can ya get.

not to mention the idiots who + you

it was a joke moron, the guy obviously killed it

    duuhhh

  • always big trumpet player in buddy rich's big band

  • After Charlies solo, BR says: Nice try, Charlie.

It is probaly ment to be funny, but is it?

In my opinion it is insane to kill at beautiful performance with that kind of attitude.

  • Ah, it's only humour. I thought it was funny. & I'm a trumpet player. Great playing all the same

  • get a life and a clue

    please.

  • Fantastic one of the greatest!

  • Buddy with a Donny Osmond button!:)

  • I'd say 100000000000000000000000000000X more musical than Lin Biviano. This guy can play a melody, play in tune, plus have verve and energy.

  • I like Lin's a little better, he was tired lol

  • Not as wild as Lin, but 1000x more musical and listenable. Excellent performance.

  • @jmswtsn is lins version on youtube?

  • @Bukis10 i have searched and been unable to find Lins version on here. it is probably hidden under some whacked up title like many things on youtube.

  • @Bukis10 It's on Spotify - search for Buddy Rich Stick It

  • @steviemusic1 i found it. /watch?v=wEzPgpm5XkE

  • At the very end -

Buddy says "Nice try Charlie." What a comedian Buddy was....

  • Smokin'!

  • Beautiful!
