Jericho Poppler was a pistol....she was the first female surfer that i saw, who was aggressive on big waves.....I mean she was amazing....and so graceful.....
I'm just amazed! I used to live directly behind Jerri' s house on 64th Pl. on the peninsula in Long Beach ('57-'59). Her younger brother (can't drag up his name) & I were pals & he invited me & my sister, Nancy over to see their brand new color TV, the first in the neighborhood! I used to surf right there where she learned (a lot better than me !) Jerri, if you read this Doug Nicholson (your neighbor who had cancer at age 11, I'm 63 now!) says , "Way to go!"
I agree she is an amazing person and what a surprise to see my two year old butt in a bikini learning from my auntie Jerri on the beach! Somehow I remembered that differently. Cool video!
Raquel - you mom is an amazing woman, tell her hello from Steve Jones, Seal Beach CA, brother of Bruce. I was in Greg's office this morning and immediately recognized your grandmother Bobbi on the wall picture. In between surgery, I spend an hour thumbing thru the office's numerous photos of your mom and most likely you too! This video is an amaxing tribute to a person that was an inspiration to me in the 60's and 70's. Go Jericho - say hi to her for me!
I have prints of those two b&w drawings at 0:22. Great to finally know about the artist!
