  • @Figs3 thought exact same thing

  • @Zephyr2Nirvana You don't archieve anything from getting likes, mate.

  • If I ever ran for president, I would so use this as my campaign song. No joke.

  • First time I heard this, I thought it said "I won't fuck you sober."

  • @Figs3

I thought it was "Our one fuck is over". Amazing how knowing the actual lyrics changes the meaning of a song!

  • i´m mr. november...

  • If only we'd listened to these guys and elected Kerry instead....

  • This album makes all my stress and worry and irrational hesitance go away. Being a pretty nostalgic guy, (especially for a 16-year-old, or at least that's what adults always tell me) I'm always worried if I'm wasting time and if I'm not living life to the fullest....today's the last day of summer, and tomorrow's the first day of 11th grade. And I just can't help but...be sad that summer's over, and a new part of my life is already starting. this album, and all it says, just cures it.

  • @ANTIanitmetalclub Nice grammer kid.

  • @tidussloan83 Good thing there weren't any grammatical errors in his post.

  • Also, it's *grammar. The irony is palpable.

  • @tidussloan83

Go fuck yourself. And it's spelled "grammar," by the way. If you're gonna go around pointing out the flaws in people's writing, you better make sure yours is flawless. Otherwise, your correction of my writing is pretty much worthless. Prick.

  • @ANTIanitmetalclub I wasnt being sarcastic! I was just try to compliment you. You must not have any friends, you sound really insecure. @Uberwenis I wasnt talking to you Jerky.

  • @tidussloan83

You were complimenting me...on my grammar? Really? lol

  • anyone wanna get drunk and run around in the streets just screaming the chorus of this over and over?

  • @jonnylikesmushrooms

    ^ THIS. SO. HARD.

  • i used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders ;)

  • thank you Elmo Kelp

  • such a gooooooooood band

  • @mick2632 terraneofestival. com

  • Percussion makes this band outstanding!... and the nice dark sound of the not-always-so-sober singer makes them the best fckin band of the decade! Loooooove it!!

  • Whoever is pounding the drums is awesome. If it were not for youtube I never would have heard this song. This is a great song that has superstar potential. WOW!!!

Remember how LOVE manipulated the drums in 7 and 7 IS? That's what this drummer sounds like. I am really impressed. I vote "like" on this one.

  • 361 people have great taste in music!

  • LOL my math teacher made me go into The National

    he's the best C:

  • i don't think people understand this is probably the best kindanoise-rock song ever composed since the pixies.

it sweats anger, melancholy, the chorus is incredible. it's human.

  • @edreese1977 It's all good :P

  • @edreese1977 If you look at another comment I made, I said to disregard my previous statement and that I was mistaken.

  • 14 people should commit suicide

  • @smokedamarra suicides too good for them! lol

  • This is a song about November 2004 and the election of that year.

  • @fizzyclown Actually, it was 2008.

  • @fizzyclown Disregard my statement, I was mistaken -_-.

  • Coachella :)

  • the start reminds me so much of Nice Guys by We are Scientists

  • Epic song! Heard it at Coachella last night!

  • coachella!!

  • this could be a song about leaders of CzechoSlovak November revoulution in 1989

  • i lost my virginity to this song. i was singing along.

  • @larrryd thats a little too epic for me to handle

  • This was my graduation character song. It reminds me of my struggle with manic depression, as there are times when I feel on top of the world and I try to do everything I can then and there because I am still aware that the good feeling's not going to last forever; as if racing with my own mind.

  • 14 people are fucking us over.

  • This song just rips. plain and simple. :)

  • the catchiest the National song

  • I won't fuck us over, I'm Mr. November

  • @Fanta666 for real thats not funny

  • @bobcake88 replay button feels violated

  • @bobcake88 Is it tied to your radiator in the basement?

  • @entranadrag wow, you tried way to fucking hard, bro.

  • @SomeCalcium entranadrag spelled too wrong

  • @SomeCalcium and the national is fuckin bomb

  • @SomeCalcium I reaaaally wanna know what he said now

  • @SomeCalcium Great... now I have to scroll down and find entranadrag's comment...

  • This song always makes me think of President Obama. Moreso now that he's fighting image problems with his base and the country at-large. "I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders, I'm the new blue blood," etc. I know it's not at all the meaning, but I see him as Mr. November, 'cause of the election month and all... and now he's embattled because he's trying to meet the heightened expectations construed from campaign promises and hopeful Americans. "I won't fuck us over, I'm Mr. November"

  • @kdd1985 "The band supported Barack Obama's presidential candidacy in 2008. In July of that year, the band designed and sold a t-shirt featuring Obama's image above the words "Mr. November," a reference to both their song from Alligator and the month of the U.S. presidential election. All proceeds were donated to Obama's campaign"-wikipedia

  • I wish that I believed in faith,

    I wish I didn't sleep so late

  • HAPPY FIRST OF NOVEMBER!!!!!!

  • i realy love him

  • @ndz789 I honestly really love him too.

  • I think about diabolo 'cause I heard this song by a really good diabolo viedo

  • 'The English are waiting, and I don't know what to do'

A reference acknowledging the English fan base at the time seeing as 'indie' bands seem to make it easier in the U.K. at first?

  • i just love the line "i wish that i believed in fate, i wish i didnt sleep so late..."

it's just kind of a poignant summary of youth.

  • Comment removed

  • who here loved the live streaming on youtube? :D that's where I heard this song. Love it.

  • When I think of this song, I think of baseball.

  • i think its making fun of the veterans who fought in the gulf war and also those who fought in the american civil war between the years 1972 and 1978, the year abraham lincoln was president, and another thing its like not always right when you go and fight in a war and die for anyone, its like a thing we all must do in our own minds in a way thats cool ?

  • It was used as Obama's campaign song ("i won't fuck us over" = brilliant, after 8 years of you-know-how) as elections are held in November. Matt Berninger wrote the song in 2005, about procrastinating while trying to write songs for an album that was due that coming November.

  • i wont fuck us over, im mr november

so fucking awesome how they made a shirt with Barack Obama with this song title, bands that get involved in politics are always amazing

  • ok, so this might be a stupid question (not dumb as in "i thought europe was a country") but what/who is Mr. November,

    love the song!

  • @sillysillyface Obama.

  • @johanthepirate How can Obama be Mr. November? The song was written in 2005.

  • @Blue387 it couldnt be. but why not let everyone say what they know to be best. becasue the past never happend and there is only the now. so this song is still "new". the 2005 never happened.

  • me gusta, como tocan la bATERIA, la guitarra

esa cobinacion de sonidos se olle bien y con su voz,

    como la disfruto,

tan relajante esta rola para mi,

    y exitante, me gusta mucho.

  • OMG. sounds like an anthem, but I guess I should decipher the words first before I declare it as such. : I i know....

  • esta rola fue la primera q escuche de ellos,

    y es una magnifica cancion,

    me gusta mucho,

    me adentro y me intereso

    por conocer este grupo,

    y no los conosco aun,

pero e escuchado mas cosas de ellos y padre tocan.

  • Great song. Mr. November was magnifident yesterday at Zenith in Paris.

  • When i first heard this song i thought the chorus was "I was once fucking sober"

  • first i was like :(

    then i was like :))))

  • Rockin' song.

  • Ok, why aren't The National well known? They are the most amazing band. I love them so much, and every song makes me feel amazing

  • The National es la mejor banda del mundo. Geniales, absolutamente imprescindibles.

  • Everyone - EVERYONE should do themselves a favor and for crying out loud listen to this song. It is the best. I will do my part. I will tell my friends.

  • good lyrics... love it.

  • je suis tombée sur cette chanson par hasard en cherchant une autre chanson et j adore la mélodie me fait penser au style de bloc party un groupe ke j adore

aor j adère aussi a The National! c très sympa

  • "I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders."

Such a great lyric... Continues with the theme of faded glory/defeatism in a lot of The National's music.

  • I wish I believed in fate...

  • "I wish I believed in fate..." - quote

  • love this song!

  • 2nd best song on the album!!! awesome post!

  • what's the first?

  • Abel..well thats what I think anyway!

  • ya, no lie, that is a pretty good one

  • This song truly does not fuck us over.

  • amazing song

  • i love the chorus to this song

  • thanks for posting this dude

  • best indie band ever!!!!!!

  • neither of those artists would write these lyrics at all. I entirely disagree with all of your sentiments in that comment.

by the way why are you watching this video just to trash them?

  • I agree completely, they are so much better than Britney Spears of Nickelback.

Plus of course everyone loves indie bands, that's what makes them indie, not that they're non mainstream. If anyone tells you otherwise they made it up... or looked it up.

So don't stop being a D-bag, just because no one like you.

  • I agree, I am Hilarious.

    You're such a nice guy

  • No, I'm really not, I'm flattered that you'd consider it.

but I'm not attracted to you.

    Nothing personal

  • If most bands put out the simplicitic trash of White Stripes, they'd be trashed by critics as well.

  • I'm not a huge fan of the White Stripes, but when have they ever been "trashed" by critics? And what critics? WS have been critic darlings from pretty much every media outlet I've seen.

  • to be honest, if you wanna critise every video that you hate, then you gona be while cus theres afew million videos on youtube so why dont you get a life.

And you completely contradict yourself in what you say, idiot.

  • learn how to spell.

  • Maybe so...but a song is all about delivery...if yr terrible examples of britney spears and nickelback did this song it wouldn't be what i call great music...the production would be horrendous and it would contrast what im looking for in music...its good music to toss a bottle of wine back to,...what are u looking for?

  • SOOO GOOD

  • about 100 of the views on this vid are from me...

I may not agree with The National's political views, but their music is simply amazing

  • Views are individual, but agreed nonetheless. :)

  • hi, is there any link to content regarding their political views, im eager to find out about this you see.

  • What are The National's political views, and why would that have anything to do with how you enjoy their music?

  • Wait, because they endorsed Obama? What band didn't? I'm not a completely liberal person myself, but good luck finding many bands/comedians that are actually great at what they do without them being on the left side of politics. Argue the politics all you want, but creativity of art doesn't flow all that well down the right side.

  • That's the sad part I think. The majority of people look up to idols, celebrities, bands/comedians to see who they'll choose for a politician. They ignore the arguing of politics and what each candidate represents and goes with the flow of those idols they idolize and as you said they are all mostly liberal. What I am trying to say is that I don't really care about what some musician or actor has to say about his or her political beliefs. I just say stick with your act or produce music instead.

  • i think they (bands and celebrities) have as much right as you and i to express their political views in a public forum (assuming they are taxpaying citizens). as to whether any thing they say should be given credence is up to us as individuals who are ultimately the ones who (ideally, but frequently not the case) discern our own opinion on an issue.

  • too true - which is why free speech is...like, awesome! great job!

  • This song just makes me want to scream out it's lyrics despite it's er- profanities. I told one of my friends to listen to it and excuse the language, but then I corrected myself and told him to embrace it. It's so great. Most of the time I hate when songs swear a lot but there are ones like this when I have no other feeling toward it than love.

  • chill.

i think you'll live, despite the er...ya know..er...naughty er words...

  • Matt Berninger (The Singer) is expecting his first child! She will be born in a few months! So please keep him and his family in your prayers. (Don't ask me how I got this info. I know matt he is my second cousin.)

  • great fpr you ve just become just another one of them

  • this song fucking rocks!!

  • the baby woke me up at 3:00 am, she went back too sleep, I couldn't sleep anymore, and watched some tele, live concert of The Alligator, and yes this is one of the best bands of the world.

With thanks too my daughter Maggie to wake me up.
