I think the American accent sounds like it was designed for speaking quickly. We bounce across T, pronouncing it like D, if it makes the word faster to say. British people take a long time to pronounce vowels. The British accent is better for slow singing, since some notes are held on vowel sounds for a long time, and the R sound isn't very musical. The American accent is better for rapping.

There might be lots of American accents, but I'm pretty sure she's talking about the standard broadcast-type accent (i.e. West Coast, more so than Southern) just like when we think about the English accent, we think of the Queen's English, the TV stuff, but in reality there are tons of English accents too!

There is no "proper" American accent, sorry. The fact is that there are literally hundreds of "amercian" accents, depending on where a person lives in America. For example; I am from Dallas, Texas. Within a hundred miles of here, I can think of at least 5 different accents (all variants of the texas accent). 1. Dallas accent, 2. East Texas accent, 3. West Texas accent, 4. South Texas accent, and 5. Generalized redneck/county folk accent (also has several variants).
