I do like some of the voice acting in the canadian version... but the writing and editing was so much better in the original japanese series. This first episode has some nice exposition and dialogue between the characters in the japanese cut... while the canadian version has a poorly edited, extended dream sequence and redundant chatter about tornadoes. Completely awful.

I grew up watching the English version of this on HBO (managed to find one of the movie compilations at a CVS, of all places). I always suspected this was Japanese but since Cinar removed all Japanese names and companies from the English credits I was never really certain for many years. And Sumi (Nausicaa, Kyoko Otonashi) Shimamoto does make an adorable Dorothy.

I gotta say, this download has very GOOD quality. In here (PR) they used to show it every day @ 3 30 pm (in spanish of course) and I rushed from school to see it. Is by far the best Wizard of Oz ever... and I'm including the movies. Is more complete, has more suspense into it. I remembered also that the continue it with the return to Oz. Excellent too!!(the part where she gets surrounded by evil Sunflowers was spooky as hell...)

I agree too with the original soundtrack. A LOT BETTER!!

I know! They made the whole series into four condensed "movies" that they put out on DVD a few years ago. They were available at Best Buy and probably elsewhere. I watched the series back when it aired on HBO, and was very disappointed when I found out those discs didn't contain complete episodes...
