This song should be on a future GBS record! This song sounds like Alan sharing his story of working at the fishery in Petty Harbour cutting cod tounges when he was a kid.
That line ' I look at my son and think of the fun that he'll never have around here', I'm pretty sure Alan wrote it as he has a young son that will never know the joys of cutting cod tongues and selling them.
I'm not sure, it sounds like it's just one he hasn't played for a long time but I'd like it if it was. I was there for this. Amazing panel. It also looks like it should include Straight to Hell (he played it so many times) and Walk on the Moon.
I love this tune, can't wait to see GBS in Kitchener next week! I listen to this tune all the time, ID's version is amazing.

And cod tongues are delicious, take it from me.

This song ALWAYS makes me cry whenever I hear it. I have the ID album Southern Shore, and IMO its their best yet!

This song is on The Irish Descendents' CD "Southern Shore." Alan was producer.

Thanks for posting this song! So touching. Great Big Sea was AMAZING on Ships and Dip III!

Well I've eaten cod tongues -- much tastier than he implies! LOL I'm glad he found an audience for this song.

Ships and Dip was great, and the Songwriter's Panel made it extra worthwhile. Thanks for posting!
