  • nice one again. cant wait for you to review the waterproof version. my guess is that a waterproof membrane will be "flanking" the zipper. but will the waterproof ver be as breathable as that? or will it breathe even better than the waterproof HRT? Inquiring feet from humid, rainy countries want to know. Will stay tuned to find out. KIU MKR Cheers! And damn you for again threatening my atm balance lol!

  • @kingkongratis

    Hi,

I looked at the Waterproof and Winter versions together, I opted for the Winter version as they are the same boot with Thinsulate lining making it a better winter boot for here in the UK. If I lived in a hot and wet climate I would have selected the Waterproof ones.

I have reviewed the Winter Taclites, so take a look.

    Regards,

    MKR.

  • @MilKitReviews thanks man

  • Hi nice video can i ask you,if i wear 511 waterproof on summer will i suffer?

  • @27lestat

I have only the Sabre jackets and they are very breathable, as for the other waterproof clothing I am not sure.

    REgards,

    MKR.

  • Nice review. Who makes the soles for 5.11's? Well, a friend of mine used to work as the supplier of a tactical store and he and and the owner were flown to the 5.11 plant. He said the soles are made at the NIKE plant side by side w/ the NIKE shoes. That might explain why all 5.11's are so darn comfy! Hope this helps.

  • Finally got a pair of these...initial thoughts..very lightweight...overall finish is ok..glue marks around the seams apparent though.Great looking but I find the sole and heel, albeit comfy, a bit flat and thin..but there again Im used to magnums (stealth) which have substantial eva padded heels etc etc Maybe I expected more from a £100+ price tag

  • Hiya matey...colleague at work is cutting about in brand new pair of Oakley si assault boots...they look a tad different from the "mainsteam" but apparently are like slippers...any expert knowledge of this range??

  • @MultiMac999

    Hiya,

I am sorry, I have not tried any Oakley kit. I have used many highend tactical brands over the years and have stuck with 5.11 for many years. I am very much a, if it aint broke don't fix it guy! Great quality, products and customer service from 5.11, why change.

And no, I don't work for them. :0)

  • The way 5.11 made its waterproof with side-zip is instead of having the boot split once unzipped, the waterproof ones have a a single piece once unzipped which stretches to allow your foots entrance. The best way for me to explain it is instead of having that little piece of leather or nylon, just take that leather or nylon and attach it to the opposite end of the boot.

  • Great Review! 'Bootaholic', I thought I was the only one. Haha my girlfriend thought I was crazy when I heard about these boots and she saw my reaction. I have owned both Danners and 5.11 and i have to say that I am very impressed by both companies. My 5.11 are very tough and lightweight boots. My Danners are a bit more heavier but will last a life time. Danner has came out with its own version of a lightweight breathable boot which is called the Kinetic.

  • To waterproof the zip area could be like a pair of original swat boots that I own( 1234 model) basically they put a waterproof membrane inside the boot over the zip area so when u unzip the boot it looks the bit between webbed feet! If that makes sense( there is a youtube video featuring the 1234's..daft name I know!)

  • Thanks for the updates pal...like most "bootaholics" ( My mrs loved that..she thinks Im mad and sad!!) I always prefer to try before I buy but its not always poss.Im a 10 too and normally dont have too much difficulty..apart from Altberg where Im a half size bigger! Anyway back to the Taclites...most of the 8 inch versions are selling for around £140..yet 6 inch can be bought for around £100!! Any experience with the 6 inch model? Have to say both seem pricey when compared to Orig Swat,Bates etc

  • @MultiMac999

I have not tried the 6" version, I prefer the 8" as they go better with my stockings ;0). I would guess they are just a shorter version of what I have therefore they will be just the business.

I have knowledge of Bates and there is no comparison, you will see this when you have a pair of Taclites, as for pricey, I have Danners and Matterhorns and these are just as good and half the price!

  • @MilKitReviews i wear bates for two years, my both side zips are broken and right now if i just step to a wet floor for 1 minute my feet get wet !!!

  • @27lestat

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Bates!

Me thinks its time for a new pair of 5.11's

    Regards,

    MKR.

  • Any knowledge of the Magnum range in comparison?..thinking of replacing some magnum Stealth 8 inch which have been light and v comfy but not exactly durable!

    The tactlite look promising.

  • @MultiMac999

    Hi,

    Thanks for the sub.

My son has had several pairs of Magnums and I had one pair of Magnum Desert boots, none of these wore very well, mine only lasted about 8 months before I had a split running across the sole, something my son had three times with his!

Both pairs of Taclite's I have have worn far better than any of the Magnums we have had and they sill havent shown any real signs of wear!! Both are very light and extremely comfy with excellent ventilation.

    MKR.

  • Great review matey! Do these boots run to size..I know some makes run a little bit bigger per size than normal

  • @MultiMac999

I am a UK10 wide and ordered that size in all the footwear I have from 5.11. They have proven to be a perfect fit for me. So, I will say they do run to size with no worries.

    MKR

  • whats your opinion on the A.TA.C boots?

  • @Crimsonshadow89

I have not seen these boots, so, I'm sorry I cannot comment.

  • i would think they'd use a waterproof zip like on jackets.

  • @Crimsonshadow89

I should think you are right.

One thing I am sure of is that if 5.11 state that the waterproof version are waterproof, they will be!
