I balut from southeast asia or Filipinese, I know the word balut is from filipinos but ever since growing up I knew Vietnamese, Laos, and Thai always been eating these types of eggs too.

Hi jstne,

Balut is Not "Fermented" at all. There are no bacteria or stuff that process it. So there is no "rotting" taking place. The egg simply goes thru the natural hatching process. The only exotic things about it are:

(1) You don't eat it before the embryo forms, and (2) you eat it before it hatches and get the chance to eat shit around a pond. Hence, the cleanest duck you can ever eat - LOL!
