Well it goes deeper than disrespect, patriotism is an unconscious endorsement of the use of violence . Since, a distinct National identity can only be maintained using force & coercion.

You have to forcibly restrict freedom of movement over arbitrarily created boundaries (particularly in 'countries' over a shared land mass), so that the 'unique' culture & language isn't diluted.

You also have to endorse & promote delusional themes, that we all somehow share some experience of sameness.
