@cmblocke Also, jealous? I don't get it. Britain was already a superpower and I doubt it would be today's greatest superpower. Besides if that were true we would have joined in but we knew you'd probable just hid in the woods again.
@cmblocke Your an idiot if you refer to any of the army's generals and commanders as "foolish" the introduction of the machine gun changed the face of warfare and we still believed that a war could be one head on. Hell every country did. But America was a big meat shield. They just didn't move quickly enough with the times and had to modernize themselves to be of any use at all. And I don't feel bad that yr using your cousin as an example because I'm well aware that many men died for so little
@cmblocke America is just a bunch of arrogant pricks who are late for every war that doesn't involve oil or communists. Never compare an empire to dirt.
HOWEVER that said I really like the South and think they should have won.
I smell jealously. If the South had won, Britain (or the Soviet Union) might be today's greatest power. I love England and the English personally, but on the major political stage, she is merely a media curiosity for her antiquated ceremonies involving royalty.
@cmblocke Entering WW1 at the beginning you were just meat shields and no country really did much on the battlefield except get killed by machine guns constantly that's why it was a pointless war. An besides Britain (Don't like saying English) because Belgium, a tiny country by comparison, was about to be crushed by Germany and we wouldn't allow it.
Yes one of my own cousins was one of those "meat shields" you refer to, just like the 60,000 men your foolish high command decided to slaughter to the Germans on a single day at the Somme? Point is, w/o American money after both world wars, England would have been utterly bankrupted. And another thing, trying to get the illegal taxes to finance your war debt from fighting the French was what caused America to turn to Revolution. Be happy the South lost.
Southerns just wanted Northerners to leave us alone.....the same applies today. Northerners belive they have to be over paid in a union to work! Guess thats way there are very few jobs up north and companies are basing their headquarters in the south. How many southerns do you see moving north? How will tell you how many 0 none. ha ha ha Go home pale yankees go home to yankee land.
The Confederacy was an economic system based on slavery. The black people were forced to work because it was the cheapest form of labor. If the black person would not submit, they were lynched. Then the white slave master would go to church and pray to jesus. I am sure there are Germans who believe the Third Riech is going to rise again. Don't say you don't have anything in common with the Nazis. YOu are all Nietzsche desciples but you got circumcised
I post here for my ancestor: Captain Carey F Grimes, Portsmouth Light Artillery, who lies dead on the field of honor, shot from his horse directing his batteries against 'those people' at Sharpsburg Maryland Sept 17th 1862 defending his land, his family, his honor and the great glorious State of Virginia in the War of Northern Aggression.
Deo Vindice
God shall be the final judge. Whosoever claims Sherman, his Yankee horde and the Reconstruction saved the South...then be damned
@etcurrie I would call any president who was responsible for the deaths of 650,000 soldiers and over 50,000 civilians far worse than just mediocre. I consider him the WORST president ever, the one who destroyed the original Republic and substituted for it the out of control leviathan we see today.
@rockerbox1973: your people almost did fight for the South, not because they "loved" the South but because they wanted to see America's great experiment with democracy fail. Luckily Walpole's government was pre-empted by the Emancipation Proclamation from making any attempt to intervene on the Confederacy. Who the hell would have saved your asses from insolvency after WWI and saved your ass again in WWII? a UNITED states of America is what, you ignorant Limey.
@cmblocke limey sounds so damn ridiculous, what Englishman is gonna be offended by the term Limey?
Funny how yanks found an insult for the English in the term "limey," which came from the fact that English people sailing abroad would suck limes to stop getting scurvy I believe, which is sensible, stupid fucks.
Are you an American plastic paddy who hates the English by any chance?
Actually I am a student of Tudor/Stuart English and British colonial history, so anglophobia has nothing to do with it. My point about insolvency and salvation after the world wars still stands though. England was gunning for America to be divided by the Civil War but couldn't publicly support a slave-based polity without a lot of justification. You should be happy that the South lost, because England won in the long-run as a result.
@rockerbox1973 Right on I come from a family who came from mexico but I also have a ancestor who fought for good ole dixie he fought with William Clarke Quantrill (guerilla war far along frank and jesse james) and I will gladly do the same
@karlswansson they diddnt want another they had alot of problems their self and if they did help i read that if they had the chance they would of attempted to take america so im glad they diddnt.but if that isnt true yes then im pissed
@karlswansson sorry for my intrusion but as an Englishman myself i think GB would have aided the south IF Lee had run the army of the Potomac at Gettysburg, after all the UK and US were never friends in the 19th century, only rivals and sometimes enemies as i`m sure you know,so a chance to give the USA a kick in the pants then would have been taken, even if GB didnt agree with slavery and had abolished it in 1833.
I've lived in Dixie as long as I can remember, except a year I worked behind enemy lines in New York City. I love Dixie and her flag. The way anyone else feels about it, just isn't important to me. Men will fight and argue till the cows come home over what that war was about. I suppose it depends on your point of view. I felt it was about state's rights. States were supposed to be able to secede but Yankees firing on Fort Sumpter made it clear it would take a fight.
@GunBigotHater "The South fought on account of the thing we quarreled with the North about. I never heard of any other cause for quarrel, than slavery"....John Singleton Mosby...CSA.
@UnionStatesHeritage "If I thought for one second this war was being fought over slavery, I would join the other side this minute". U.S. Grant...Commander Federal Forces
@Rikki0 Hmmm...a variation of the "give my sword to the other side" quote. Fun thing about that quote...It's bogus. The only source ever found for that particular "quote" of U. S. Grant...one of his political enemies, and it was used as an attempt to discredit him, during an election.
Think about it...would a US commander be dumb enough to say something like that during war time, and expect to keep his job?....Duh
@GunBigotHater said " I felt it was about state's rights. ... but Yankees firing on Fort Sumpter made it clear it would take a fight."
A couple of points: It was the south who fired on Ft. Sumter not the north. If you look at the constitution of the confederate states you will see that it was modeled on the original constitution and the major changes had to do with states rights and the states rights all involved the right to own slaves, retrieve slaves and so forth.
@vmjim That's what I get for posting from memory, without first looking it up. You are correct, Fort Sumpter was run by scum sucking Yankees. There was a fight there, but memory didn't serve me correctly this time. I guess my memory is a little dim since the last time I studied this the calender was from 1968 or so. My apology.
never knew this song existed until i saw josey wales...this is the first time i ever heard the entire song...great quality...awesome vid...i'm glad you guys post these hard to find tunes...thanks...5 stars.
Hey im Canadian and I've got a question i was taught that the civil war was about rasism but now im hearing some different versions and reasons so im really confused could someone explain the truth to me plain and simple?
the civil war was not fought over the slavery issue.it was state rights. Slavery did not end---the system was changed to a wage system and all people was responsable for their own well being.--40 acres and a mule was given to each family and that was to provide for themself---money for everthing else came from the rich for the same labor that was called slavery.
@49bluesman Sir. With respect: Thats not quite accurate. The 40 acres and a mule to every male freed slave was proposed by Major General Billy Sherman, if memory servers right. It never happened. I think it should have. Things I imagine would be quite different now. God Bless the Union and her people and God bless Dixie Land and its people!!!
I'm northern born but have confederate ancestors from Kentucky in the cavalry and sometimes I wished the south won not seceded but fought to take back the entire country from the traitor and dictator Lincoln.
@nitewolf89 Do NOT call Lincoln a “dictator” unless you call Jefferson Davis a dictator, too. He was a target from the various state governments just as much, if not more, than Lincoln was. I am SICK AND TIRED of people who HAVE NOT studied either the American CIvil War, Lincoln himself, or the politics of the time passing judgment on the man. nitewolf89, YOU ARE INCORRECT. Let us leave it at that, unless you want to get into a factual argument, which you will lose.
@ARP7777777 Lincoln was a tyrant come to terms with that, it is fact. You either believe that people have the right to self determination and natural rights or you believe that they are subject to the current tyrant in chief. There is nothing wrong with either belief, but if you want an elected official who has the same power as one who comes to power under Divine Right freely acknowledge it dont beat around the bush and say that you are for the natural rights of man and then say its conditional
@ARP7777777 I could care less what side of the War of Northern Aggression that your ancestors fought on as it is clearly irrelevant to your historical ignorance. Lincoln was a tyrant he suspended the writ of Habeas Corpus, attempted to imprisoned the chief justice, exiled the speaker of the house, attempted to ship all people of colour to central America or Africa, directed his armies to massacre the native Americans (for his corporate buddies in the railroad industry), etc
@Chad435 IGNORANCE? Yeah right. . . Show me the actual incidents you are talking about, sir. Tell me where you read this, in which book, article, or magazine? Because if you do not show me the information, then I will believe it is just your own prejudices talking. So show me where I can find this information, and do not just say Lincoln was a tyrant. Because by your logic, so was Jefferson Davis. . . As for the colonization idea, many people had it, including Marcus Garvey!
@ARP7777777 If you are uneducated about basic historical facts regarding the invasion of Lincoln's army into the South that is your problem... if you wish to remedy that just visit the Library of Congress, they after all do allow for historical research in the library there. You should be reading primary account not text books, articles or magazines which are in itself biased by the authors opinion. From your comments here you appear to be a product of the failed American Education system
@Chad435 You do realize that if the Confederates had won African Americans might still be enslaved, right? And that would go against natural rights and the claim that "All men are created equal." Lincoln was not a tyrant--he merely wanted everyone to have equal rights and opportunity.
@buzybaba Your argument is without merit. The CSA outlawed participation in the international slave trade because it was a dying institution. Besides it wasn't just blacks that were enslaved. Your beliefs in Lincoln shows your ignorance. Perhaps you should educate yourself a little better by reading primary sources such as Lincoln's inaugural speech, the proclamation emancipation, etc. Lincoln also imprisoned thousands without due process of law for dissenting viewpoints.
@buzybaba do you realize that if the confederacy had won we would have a government that doesnt tell you what you can and cant do it says in the constitution that the government is only in place to enforce rights and nothing else thats what the confederacy fought for to have a government thats not like we have today
I'm french and i don't realy have an opinion on the civil war which was definitly american even if several french soldiers and generals fought from both side but all i have to say it's that this song is really great.
@retusyllib when readin the Constitution it does not talk about secession so when there is no awnser to a question in the Constitution it will be held up for the state to decide if right or wrong so the states decided to seceed and guess what it was leagel even the supreme court for Ameica said it was leagel they told Lincoln that he could not invade the south but since he thought that he was better and smarter that the Constitution he did it anyways illeagely he should have been hung Sherman ex
@AHafan1 looking into the confederacy, i always thought more germans fought for the north, but it turns out[as known except for the german part] that most confederate regemnets were made up of Iirsh, Scottish and germans. I am proud our poeple fought solder to solder aginst the union, and as i see it the south had ever right to secede, havent you heard they say its a free country :P
Everyone says Long Live Dixie but no one ever does anything. I am a proud Georgian and I fully support the Confederacy. We need to abolish the oppressive federal government and give rights back to the people. Every state should have the right to peacefully secede.
they should make a civil war game for the xbox or ps3 and you could pick north or south and if you win you can play if you win for 300 more years to see if there is another civil war and balance the economy and make war with other nations it would be cool
The reason many of you find this to be Scottish or Irish is due to the fact this is kinda bluegrass, mountin, southern music. And all of those desend from the old songs of Ireland and Scotland and the such, where many Southern and bluegrass trase their roots
This song is about a black boy in love with his brown rosie girl back home.

@cmblocke Also, jealous? I don't get it. Britain was already a superpower and I doubt it would be today's greatest superpower. Besides if that were true we would have joined in but we knew you'd probable just hid in the woods again.
14spacemarine 3 months ago
@cmblocke And don't call me English. It's offensive.
14spacemarine 3 months ago
@cmblocke Your an idiot if you refer to any of the army's generals and commanders as "foolish" the introduction of the machine gun changed the face of warfare and we still believed that a war could be one head on. Hell every country did. But America was a big meat shield. They just didn't move quickly enough with the times and had to modernize themselves to be of any use at all. And I don't feel bad that yr using your cousin as an example because I'm well aware that many men died for so little
14spacemarine 3 months ago
@cmblocke America is just a bunch of arrogant pricks who are late for every war that doesn't involve oil or communists. Never compare an empire to dirt.
HOWEVER that said I really like the South and think they should have won.

I smell jealously. If the South had won, Britain (or the Soviet Union) might be today's greatest power. I love England and the English personally, but on the major political stage, she is merely a media curiosity for her antiquated ceremonies involving royalty.
cmblocke 3 months ago
@cmblocke Entering WW1 at the beginning you were just meat shields and no country really did much on the battlefield except get killed by machine guns constantly that's why it was a pointless war. An besides Britain (Don't like saying English) because Belgium, a tiny country by comparison, was about to be crushed by Germany and we wouldn't allow it.
14spacemarine 3 months ago
@14spacemarine

@rockerbox1973: your people almost did fight for the South, not because they "loved" the South but because they wanted to see America's great experiment with democracy fail. Luckily Walpole's government was pre-empted by the Emancipation Proclamation from making any attempt to intervene on the Confederacy. Who the hell would have saved your asses from insolvency after WWI and saved your ass again in WWII? a UNITED states of America is what, you ignorant Limey.
cmblocke 3 months ago
@cmblocke limey sounds so damn ridiculous, what Englishman is gonna be offended by the term Limey?
Funny how yanks found an insult for the English in the term "limey," which came from the fact that English people sailing abroad would suck limes to stop getting scurvy I believe, which is sensible, stupid fucks.
Are you an American plastic paddy who hates the English by any chance?
God Bless Dixie
EnglishNationalist13 3 months ago
@EnglishNationalist13

Rikki0 5 months ago
@Rikki0 Hmmm...a variation of the "give my sword to the other side" quote. Fun thing about that quote...It's bogus. The only source ever found for that particular "quote" of U. S. Grant...one of his political enemies, and it was used as an attempt to discredit him, during an election.
Think about it...would a US commander be dumb enough to say something like that during war time, and expect to keep his job?....Duh
UnionStatesHeritage 5 months ago
@GunBigotHater said " I felt it was about state's rights. ... but Yankees firing on Fort Sumpter made it clear it would take a fight."
A couple of points: It was the south who fired on Ft. Sumter not the north. If you look at the constitution of the confederate states you will see that it was modeled on the original constitution and the major changes had to do with states rights and the states rights all involved the right to own slaves, retrieve slaves and so forth.
vmjim 3 months ago
@vmjim That's what I get for posting from memory, without first looking it up. You are correct, Fort Sumpter was run by scum sucking Yankees. There was a fight there, but memory didn't serve me correctly this time. I guess my memory is a little dim since the last time I studied this the calender was from 1968 or so. My apology.

Hey im Canadian and I've got a question i was taught that the civil war was about rasism but now im hearing some different versions and reasons so im really confused could someone explain the truth to me plain and simple?
mypoorangel 9 months ago
the civil war was not fought over the slavery issue.it was state rights. Slavery did not end---the system was changed to a wage system and all people was responsable for their own well being.--40 acres and a mule was given to each family and that was to provide for themself---money for everthing else came from the rich for the same labor that was called slavery.
49bluesman 9 months ago
@49bluesman Sir. With respect: Thats not quite accurate. The 40 acres and a mule to every male freed slave was proposed by Major General Billy Sherman, if memory servers right. It never happened. I think it should have. Things I imagine would be quite different now. God Bless the Union and her people and God bless Dixie Land and its people!!!

I'm northern born but have confederate ancestors from Kentucky in the cavalry and sometimes I wished the south won not seceded but fought to take back the entire country from the traitor and dictator Lincoln.
nitewolf89 1 year ago
@nitewolf89 Do NOT call Lincoln a “dictator” unless you call Jefferson Davis a dictator, too. He was a target from the various state governments just as much, if not more, than Lincoln was. I am SICK AND TIRED of people who HAVE NOT studied either the American CIvil War, Lincoln himself, or the politics of the time passing judgment on the man. nitewolf89, YOU ARE INCORRECT. Let us leave it at that, unless you want to get into a factual argument, which you will lose.
ARP7777777 10 months ago
@ARP7777777 opinions vary even though he was a dictator and tyrant
nitewolf89 10 months ago
@ARP7777777 Lincoln was a tyrant come to terms with that, it is fact. You either believe that people have the right to self determination and natural rights or you believe that they are subject to the current tyrant in chief. There is nothing wrong with either belief, but if you want an elected official who has the same power as one who comes to power under Divine Right freely acknowledge it dont beat around the bush and say that you are for the natural rights of man and then say its conditional
Chad435 10 months ago
@Chad435 Believe what you will. Why not guess who my ancestors fought for, Chad435?
ARP7777777 10 months ago
@ARP7777777 I could care less what side of the War of Northern Aggression that your ancestors fought on as it is clearly irrelevant to your historical ignorance. Lincoln was a tyrant he suspended the writ of Habeas Corpus, attempted to imprisoned the chief justice, exiled the speaker of the house, attempted to ship all people of colour to central America or Africa, directed his armies to massacre the native Americans (for his corporate buddies in the railroad industry), etc
Chad435 9 months ago
@Chad435 IGNORANCE? Yeah right. . . Show me the actual incidents you are talking about, sir. Tell me where you read this, in which book, article, or magazine? Because if you do not show me the information, then I will believe it is just your own prejudices talking. So show me where I can find this information, and do not just say Lincoln was a tyrant. Because by your logic, so was Jefferson Davis. . . As for the colonization idea, many people had it, including Marcus Garvey!
ARP7777777 9 months ago
@ARP7777777 If you are uneducated about basic historical facts regarding the invasion of Lincoln's army into the South that is your problem... if you wish to remedy that just visit the Library of Congress, they after all do allow for historical research in the library there. You should be reading primary account not text books, articles or magazines which are in itself biased by the authors opinion. From your comments here you appear to be a product of the failed American Education system
Chad435 9 months ago
@Chad435 ....Hum...Sounds a lot like our current president!
thatgasolinesmell 1 month ago
@Chad435 You do realize that if the Confederates had won African Americans might still be enslaved, right? And that would go against natural rights and the claim that "All men are created equal." Lincoln was not a tyrant--he merely wanted everyone to have equal rights and opportunity.
buzybaba 9 months ago
@buzybaba Your argument is without merit. The CSA outlawed participation in the international slave trade because it was a dying institution. Besides it wasn't just blacks that were enslaved. Your beliefs in Lincoln shows your ignorance. Perhaps you should educate yourself a little better by reading primary sources such as Lincoln's inaugural speech, the proclamation emancipation, etc. Lincoln also imprisoned thousands without due process of law for dissenting viewpoints.
Chad435 9 months ago
@buzybaba do you realize that if the confederacy had won we would have a government that doesnt tell you what you can and cant do it says in the constitution that the government is only in place to enforce rights and nothing else thats what the confederacy fought for to have a government thats not like we have today
