The Last Samurai was based around the story of a French colonel who came to Japan and led a rebellion against the new Japanese Imperial government so its only logical that it would be a foreigner. And yes it could have been a french guy in the movie but true history doesn't sell tickets, popular actors and relatable stories do. And yes Tom Cruise is weird but he did an amazing job in the Last Samurai and so I don't care about your opinion. Peace.
