So you are saying Paul Mcdonell should be parked 3wide at the half in 51.4..Because he was the best horse in the race..Trust me im not compairing Art Official to the Beach because there is no compairison..You can say whatever the fuck you want..He drove the horse like shit..Good drivers dont put themselves in bad positions like that
Another thing i think Paul Macdonnel was a perfect fit for this horse....He may not have the talent of a Jameison or a Waples....But he's not aggresive like them guys..I believe if one of those guys had him they woulda burned him up early in his career..Paul is a great horsemen....But again he did drive him horribly in meadowlands pace....He was to confident.....What he shoulda done was take a seat 4th...Wait for Bullvillepowerfull to clear and make his move at the half mile pole..
@PlaYah1979 Calling MacDonell's drive in the Meadowlands Pace "horrible" is doing nothing but playing "Monday morning quarterback." When you have best horse in the race, you drive him like he is the best. 99 times out of 100 Art Official and Pierce would fold like origami after such an incredibly fast half. I mean, 51:4? How is MacDonell suppose to predict Pierce is gonna pull a fast one like that...do something NEVER DONE in history (a half that fast).
The final time of 1:47:0 was nearly a second (4/5ths) faster than ANY 3YO RACE IN HISTORY HAD GONE to that point. And MacDonell is now suppose to "soft drive" and take a tuck? If Art Official had 1:47:0 speed in him that night and SBSW tucks and waits, then he would have lost by 5. THink about it. BP gets hung, Pierce jams the fields and uses BP as a pic. Then everyone wonders why MacDonell drove like a pussy and got stuck in. I can be critical with drives too sure, but not that one
You kiddin glen? There is not a standerdbred on earth.... Past or present that could beat the beach....His only loss he was parked 3wide.. For almost 3/4's of a mile and
lose buy a half a head.. In world record time!!!! Do some research and tell me if any kiwi or limey.. Horse has ever went 1;47 over a mile ...Keep your idiotic comments to yourself...And give this guy his much deserved credit......
@PlaYah1979 I think his poorly made point is that it woul be interesting to see how a horse like SBSW would go over 1 1/2 miles or maybe further. There are few horses IMO (most of them Kiwi) that could run in the 1:47 range if they were given specific mile preps. But in ANZ the good races are 1 /12 miles or there abouts. FYI I have a mare due with a SBSW foal from AI in the next month. I also have one in foal to Christian Cullen, who I believe at 3 could have gone toe to toe with the Beach
@glenngould99 He raced two mile heats in the same day. The 2nd mile being a world record on a half-mile, slow, bullring track. If he can run two miles in a day with the 2nd one being faster, I think going a mile and half wouldn't be too tough. He was built like an absolute beast.
i wont go as far as to say pauls drive in the Meadowlands Pace was good but no one and i mean no one could anticipate what happened that night...it was a fluke that got a legend beat...be a SBSW hater all u want...Dewey was great...SBSW may be the best ever
@Cabaret43 Excellent post here. People look back with revisionist history and say it's a bad drive. Most forget the things that happened that night hadn't happened in HISTORY before that. SBSW got the last laugh though. AO couldn't SBSW's bridle after that fluke.
I don't get this comment. If the other horses in the race can't get by him, he only has to pace as fast as he has to to win the race. Only a lunatic would push him faster for no reason. Why would you race the balls off your horse for no reason? You, sir don't know much about horse racing.

Hes a great horse dont get me wrong...but this year as of Aug 22...there have been Ten horses who have won races faster than Beach
1:48.3 ....1:49 are a few of Beach's winning times No big deal ....horses do it every week
vegascraig 3 years ago
Well... so much for that argument... I'd say trotter of the year and pacer of the year are pretty much locked in
