  • every time i see this all i can hope is that -- i've inspired my siblings to give a such a passionate response to someone who has offended me in my absence.

  • Damn. What did she say about Suzanne?

  • @VideoVixen24 Miss Ga World 1986 made fun of Suzanne for twirling a baton for her talent. Said no one twirls a baton anymore.

  • @bosborn29150

    Thanks! : )

  • ^_¤

  • Julia Sugarbaker is my hero! Yep.

  • they played this in the club tonight i was weak lmao

  • I always loved when Julia told people off!

  • One of the greatest things about Designing Women especially Julia aka Dixie Carter is she would get her point across crystal clear without ever once cursing or loosing her tact. I know it was just a show. what I am saying is style a class is something missing in our country today. People should learn from these women.

  • I love it when Julia goes off on people lol

  • If anyone out there wants to tell their sister how much she means to them, send her a link to this famous julia sugarbaker speech. Trust me, your sister will know how much she means to you.

  • what great acting RIP dixie carter

  • Great TV!

  • To this day, this is one of my most favorite episodes! No one gets fired up like Julia!

  • What a uniquely accurate depiction of southern women - love them all, especially Julia and Suzanne as sisters

  • I realy loved the one where Juila told Suzanne if sex were fast food there would be an arch over her bed!! (pilot ep.)

  • Gotta love those Big Shouldered Broads!!!!! Juila Sugarbaker is my Idol!!!

  • Thumbs up if you can say this by heart.

  • this is the best tell off of all time. Dixie Carter was on fire in this scene. OMFG

  • YOU GO GURL

  • Julia Sugarbaker was the bomb!!!!

  • Get her, Julia!

  • That is perhaps the best clip from DW ever. EVER.

  • Lord have mercy

  • Miss Georgia World 1986 got herself verbally bitch slapped!!

  • At 1:00 is the reason Delta Burke was, is and always will be the most beautiful woman ever to grace our television sets.

  • Classic

  • Love it, love it, looooove it!!!

  • God love her. She would verbally annihilate someone and the victim would meekly apologize.

  • I never want to cross Julia. She was always telling someone off. I loved her!

  • I love Julia, she wasn't no joke!!!!! I love this scene, she set it straight!

  • Her tongue was a DEADLY WEAPON!!!

  • If you miss Designing Women the TV Guide Channel/Network aires. The pilot episode and this episode aired on Saturday, October 1, 2011. The title of this episode is "The Beauty Contestest." However, fans of D.W. will know it as "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia."

  • Woe to the person foolish enough to slight a member of a southern girl's family! Wonderful character, absolutely unmatched! Loved the beautiful Dixie Carter!

  • I have loved this speech, and even memorized it back in the day, for many years. Thanks for posting this!!!

  • and this video doesn't have millions of views because?

  • Comment removed

  • didn't you just loved it when someone mistakenly pissed her off? it made you want to get a box of pop corn and watch the fireworks but you didn't because leaving you might just missed something.

I'm on to see if i can find the episode where Suzanne helped them pick out a car...

  • You are the LADY Dixie Carter. R.I.P.

  • I loves me some Designing Women.

  • LOVE IT!!!

  • There will never be another Dixie Carter and for that matter another Julia.

What a beauty and incredible acting. When she died, that was the "Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia."

  • I love how she delivered these speeches with elegance, grace, powerful conviction and confidence but always added the much needed and appreciated bit of humor.

  • everytime i see this clip, i just want to stand up and cheer on her! shes the greatest Julia Sugarbaker we ever will have!

  • I wish I had a sibling that came to my rescue like Julia Sugarbaker.

  • This was the only time I ever admired a fictional character to the degree that I wanted to emulate...at 17 I thought, "Wow, what a woman!"

  • This is pretty much the best acting I have ever, ever seen. She was incredible.

  • what is the name of the episode?

  • Thank you so much for posting this, my all time favorite moment of the entire series. I haven't seen it in years and it made me cry all over again. R.I.P. Dixie.

  • SNAP!

  • why was Julia mad?

  • @eventingirl001 Margerie was talking bad about Suzanne [Julia's sister] behind her back.

  • Oh my goodness, I remember this like it was yesterday! Loved watching this show with my Mama!!

  • In honor of Earth Hour, tonight is ANOTHER night the LIGHTS will go OUT in GEORGIA!

  • Isn't this typical, though? We will allow ourselves to be run down. We will, however, spring to the defense of our siblings, as they will with us. You can say what you will about ME, but, speak derisively about my siblings, and it's Katie bar the door!!! And that's how it SHOULD be!

  • @thekenergizer I loved this show in its day and I still do. I'ts timeless!!!

  • Have loved this scene from the first night it aired. Thanks for posting.

  • One of the best scenes of any TV show- bar none.

  • A 1000% class act. Never be another lady like her. Brava! Rest in peace:)

  • You want to see another good one?

Look for the speech she gives a woman about her gay guy friend and how she tells the woman she is wrong for telling him Aids was a punishment from God.

She wipes the floor with her. It's awesome.

  • @JulieMichelle76 The episode you mention is here on YouTube. They won't let me put a link in my post, but you can just use the YT search bar and enter "Designing Women's Julia Sugarbaker on AIDS." Someone uploaded the speech, and another uploaded the entire episode.

I'd missed that one 'back in those days, thanks for the hint, it was awesome!

  • @JulieMichelle76 I Saw That And Was Like Sing It Sister.

  • As soon as you see Julia rise from that chair, you just know that verbal carnage and bloodshed will begin. XD

  • daaamn i love this show lol that gave me goose bumps

  • OMG I love Julia RIP Dexie!

  • My God! That speech literally gave me chills. Dixie Carter was awesome.

  • One of my favorite Julia moments!

  • What Did Marjorie say about Suzanne

  • @feelgoodtime Marjorie said that she was an old-fashioned beauty queen that bored everyone and she made fun of her talent, "who twirls batons anymore?"

  • God, how I love Julia!!!

  • I'm sorry I didn't know.

    ....well now you do.

    Perfect

  • I don't think I'd want to get yelled at by her.

  • oh god that is so me for my sister lol

  • @chae9697 you should see the episode where Suzanne wants to join the Beaumont Driving Club...now that is what sisters are about...there is just something about the bond bewteen sisters that no MAN can ever understand!!

  • The 80s were such a great decade of television, and this was one of the best series. Too bad it had to get spoiled by that squabble over weight issues.

  • one of the best clips in TV history!! She was great!

  • Julia Sugarbaker was the white Claire Huxtable...elegant, graceful, intelligent, sophisticated, beautiful.....but NOT to be crossed.

  • @ninetiesbaby10 however sadly missed

  • @ninetiesbaby10 lol wonderful description

  • @ninetiesbaby10 YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT IN THAT COMPARISON!

  • Dixie and Delta were two of the most gorgeous women in televison history.

  • I loved Julia because she was so empowered with courage and didn't put up with that kind of shit from anyone. The way she did it was with dignity and respect but strongly getting her point across. I so wanted Susanne to loose the weight but she didn't and I loved the face that it was written in this moment Susanne gets snickered at but her sister as would any sister would do is stick up for their baby sister. I must say I live in Phoenix AZ but I helped a friend move to Atlanta GA this show wa

  • Dixie was sooo good at this. She was incredible. No one else can put somebody in their place like Julia Sugarbaker. XD

  • This makes me cry.

  • I get a powering sense, and feel proud to be a woman when I see this video. I love how Julia defends her sister. Go ahead girl!!!

  • This is such a great clip. Dixie Carter could really deliver these speeches like nobody else.

  • Dixie Carter, one of the greatest woman in the history of television! A true national treasure!

  • Dixie where you are may you be singing sweet georgia brown and the gin is cold and the music is hot.

  • I always thought of Julia (Dixie) as the Betty Davis of television!

  • RIP Dixie Carter. Truly one of the most intense actresses to ever live. Loved her as Julia Sugarbaker and those gritty monologues.

  • This clip is one of the best moments in all television to me.

  • Best Julia Rant™ ever!

  • AAAAAMAZING!!!

  • Wow!! Julia sure knows how to put someone in their place...and also get right in their faces when she's telling them off! Rest in peace, Miss Carter! You were so funny in Designing Women, and it's still hard to believe that you're gone, but we'll always think of you while watching the show! God has you in Heaven, and thanks to the show's popularity and humor, millions of people will always welcome you in their homes for years to come! ;)

  • the actress playing opposite her is amazing as well... can you imagine being on the receiving end of that speech??? I would have lost it for sure ;) RIP Dixie!

  • @lovnlif

Exactly, lol. But I would have acknowledged it with humor if I were on the receiving end of a "Julia speech". Who was the blonde actress in this episode? I can see that this episode was from the first season in 1986.

  • Wow! That was totally an Emmy-caliber performance! All these years later & I'm still in awe!

  • Equal parts sass and class! Suzanne could and did push all the wrong buttons in Julia, but let anyone else diss her and all hell would break loose. What a wonderful big sister Julia was. RIP Lady Sugarbaker.

  • Classic Julia Sugarbaker!!! Can someone please explain to me what the pageant girl said to set her off???

  • @ninetiesbaby10 Suzanne first went to Julia sad and saying she felt washed up because the blonde told her her basically that throwing a paton is old. Then while Julia was sitting in the room she overheard the blonde say that she was a flusy and she couldn't believe she showed up. And the rest is history

  • @Bluj200 Thank you so much

  • this was always one of my favorite DW moments. it's a classic!

  • Talk about a broken heart....just watching that made me cry all over again. I grew up watching her wanting to be like Julia. RIP Dixie.

  • There AINT no better>>>

  • R.I.P Dixie. This has always been one of my fave Julia Sugarbaker moments.

Like someone else said they didn't call Julia "The Terminator" for nothing.

God Bless you and your family Mrs. Carter. So sad.

  • Now that, Katie-Laken Weeks, was the Night the Lights went out in Georgia!

  • This is one of my favorite DW moments.

  • Love Julia- she always had the grace, poise and spunk that I wished that I could possess. Sorry to hear about Dixie's passing.

  • RIP Dixie if only most peple never mind just women where designed like you, you will be greatly missed.

  • she is an amazing actress, and she definitely got her together.

  • LOVED this speech!! RIP Dixie Carter!! No one could pull of a sassy Southern rant like her!!

  • Speaking as a child of Georgia, I only hope to aspire to the classy elegance and hard won wisdom of a LADY like Dixie Carter. The world has suffered a great loss. R.I.P.

  • thanks

  • Classic "Julia Sugarbaker". She was soo perfect for that part. She will be missed.

  • OMG. i just noticed she rolled her "r" on the word Threw (that baton...)

you sometimes can't take the trained, shakespeare actor out of the actor. This is genius.

  • You know as soon as I found out that Ms. Carter had passed away; I immediately thought of this video. What passion, fashion, and refinement. I wish I could act like her in such a powerful and dignified manner. What a woman! May you Rest in Peace. Thank you jdavis6 for posting.

This truly is the night the lights went out in Georgia...but rest assured, she is gracing eternity with her charm and beauty...cant wait to meet you Dixie...
