I need to ask a BIG favour of all of you who are passionate about Christiania as it passes an incredible 40th year. I have long wanted to make a sympathetic film about the community and was lucky enough to save some money to video it on 26/9/11. I hope to be able to visit again in 2012. Its a really nice place with nice people. You aren't allowed to use camera in there, but that doesn't really matter because you will remember it, don't worry.

it's just a really, really cozy place to hang out. and also a lot of cool bars with music and such. in the summertime, we always go to christiania with a blanket and relaaaaaax

I was there in 1989 or 1990, cant remember. Anyway, I have always kept a nice memory of the place. Since I am Dutch, I don't give a shit about the hashies, but I was really impressed by the friendliness and the tree-houses! And people feeling free to ly down naked to sun-bath. And also impressed by the Danish government, being so easy about Christiania, compared to how other governments would have been (yeah, I know, that has changed now, but I am talking late eighties).

When I grew up in in Copenhagen I went to school not 100 metres from Christiania.

It was a great place.. But it's not what It used to be. It was orignially intended to be a sort of "freetown" Where you could walk around naked without people looking twice, because everybody was cool with everything, there was music, love, understanding and everybody was just cool. There are still alot of those "Cool" people.

First time to visit Christiania community and I was so amazed of what I witnessed there. I was a bit scared at first but people there won't hurt you and it seems they're cool and nice. I want to go back thier in my next visit to Copenhagen..

yes ... first have thinked that was a place with lot of gardens or parks .. instead there was just streets and sand,and the air really smells ... than is full of doped men that took wrong looks ... the shops was just full of commies shirts and this was really SAD ...

@necrolaxbutcher You are right. I was there in 1988. Christiana was a great social experiment during the 1970s seeking for a free liberal alternative way of life. That was the task of their founders but into the 1990s it turned into a dirty hole of drug dealers and criminality. There were not only weed and dope but hard dangerous stuffs like cocaine and heroine. The danish police had no other choice than to end this dangerous situaton.

I just learned about Christiania online yesterday. I think its great. I spent a few months in China of all places looking for more freedom (suprisingly, for freigners there can be a lot there) -- at the very least, NEIGHBORHOODS with streets you can WALK on and enjoy being outside with people in. A far cry from what America has warped into.
