After this season he won't be. He's leaving American Idol to be a judge and the excutive producer on the American version of X-Factor which will premier in 2011. Paula Abdul's going to be judging the American version of X-Factor too.
They're already looking for replacements for Simon, like Jamie Fox, Elton John, Whitney Houston, etc. But I believe with Simon leaving and X-Factor coming to America, American Idol may end up getting cancelled. X-Factor has more possiblities than Idol.

I agree, he's always been the HONEST one. At first he was actually thinking of judging both AI and XF, but he then felt that he'd be on tv, too much.
His feedback has always helped me decide on who to vote for. The other judges always try to break it to the contestants, easy, but Simon is just straight forward, he doesn't sugarcoat anything in his feedback. Whoever replaces Simon on AI, will not be able to judge the way he does.

Fair enough, the X Factor isn't everyone's cup of tea. But if 10-15 million are willing to watch it every Saturday, then you have to accept that it is a popular show. I'm not 100% sure of the reasons why people rallied to vote for rage against the machine. Could someone explain?
