its sort of a business/film city

nice place to live but slightly boring for a young person and not much cultural.

ive always wondered how eastern canada survives in the winter. cant imagine going to work everyday in that weather!

I wouldnt say its borign for young people, The nightlife is thriving, the skate parks and Cinemas, the many sports venues and concert halls are what I live on, theres always something for young people to do in montreal.

Is montreal expensive? My husband and I are in our early 20's and have always wanted to move there? Do you need to know alot of french?

Hi, Montreal is relatively not too expensive compared to other big cities. In a 2008 ubs survey on the world's most expensive cities, it ranked 25th. (NYC=5, London=1)

You can pretty much get around with english only in downtown montreal and the western part of montreal (which has a high population of english speakers). But it does help to know some french. Eastern part of montreal is mainly french.

Anyways, a real montrealer should at least be somewhat bilingual in my opinion ;)...
