The harpsichord and some of the musical underpinnings are strangely reminiscent of some older British rock - maybe Stones "As Tears Go By" era. Do others agree or have a better fix on what songs these sound like?

Great stuff! I usually prefer a guitar & vocal only version, but you have augmented this very well and your vocal is excellent. You should come over to the Nick Drake gathering at Tanworth in Arden, where I grew up at the same time as Nick. A truly inspirational Warwickshire village.

Your particular version of this song I think I prefer to Drakes. Your vocal suits it better with the Gilmore overtures and less discordant and loud cello.

MrPelicanPants, the point is that It looks that Dave has been "inspired" by Nick Drake in particular because of this song, Fly. When I listened this song for the first time I thought "this is David Gilmour"..

But it is not the only one, when I listened "Black Eyed Dog" for the first time I thought "This is Eddie Vedder".

And yes, excellent cover, but most his covers are equally great.

Reproducing someone else's work - as amazingly accurate as you do - is hard work, but all the fun of making a song and shaping it into a work of art is already done for you. I would be saddened to know that all the talent and the excellent singing voice you have is not put to use creating new works of art.

Thanks very much for your positive comments.I don't write as much as I used to and even then it would mostly be in collaboration as I'm not a lyricist.But at some point I may sit down and write something instrumental to post.And doing these "close" covers is actually fun and also instructive both as a musician and recording engineer,you learn quite a bit about the song and the artist by trying to match the sound and feel of each track in an arrangement.

so are these built in effects on the keyboard...if not what program are you using....sorry for so many questions..but i recently bought a digital piano with the midi capability and what not...but ive never messed with midi or sampling sounds so i wasnt sure on how to do it.

The program I use is Logic,you can see it running on the computer screen in the background of all the videos I've done so far...some of the sounds are from my keyboard but most are sample based virtual instrument plugins that actually reside within my Mac and can be accessed via midi

Hi,thanks for your positive comments...to answer your question,I wasn't working from a score,I pretty much just played the lines that stood out to me on the original recording,paying particular attention to the cello line...thanks again
