brett lee has a near perfect action, he is neither front on nor side on bowler he is midway, this is what his action looked like after he spent a year remodeling it due to a broken back. he has a few points though where he could possibly be even quicker, if he was to bend his front elbow when pulling it down, if he didnt close his arm into his thigh/hip, if he had a tiny bit longer jump and if he brought his front arm further over in his follow threw.
@buffalo... where the back foot points (Lee's right foot) tells you what type of bowler he is. 95% of coaches even get this wrong and mistakenly look at the top half. The shoulder line (top) should attempt to match the hips, which is dictated by the position of the back foot impact.. you look at this clip and tell me where the back foot points on impact....
In THIS clip..Lee is semi side on (45 degrees - 70 degrees) on back foot impact. If he was front on it would point down the pitch
@SHEK666: This is NOT a mixed action. His hips and shoulders are perfectly lined up on BACK FOOT IMPACT (pointing in the same direction). Lee is a sideways bowler but sometimes goes a fraction more midway or semi, especially when he bowls round the wicket like this.
isn't that what you would call a "mixed action"? The landing foot is neither straight nor horizontal. I know lee normally bowls side-on, but in this particular delivery would it be considered mixed?
@shek666 This was mixed as you say. Originally, he landed side-on and twisted his trunk to pull his arm through. Lee had injury problems because of that and he slightly remodelled his action with the help of biomechanics expert, Dr. Frank Pyke and Dennis Lillee.
He opened up a bit more and you can see that clearly in all his matches post 2004 or so.
