tom quayle is far more complex and his improvisation are just inspiring... but gustavo have some kind of personality that fits well with his playing, music is emotion, and qualye didnt transmit me anything. gustavo at least make me smile!! just my humble opinion.
Gustavo won because playing guitar is much more the WAY you do it instead of what ur doing. of course technique is important, but fucking hendrix had a piece of shit techinique but stills rocks.

And I think he is really lucky that his "concentration face" is a big smile ... you see it in all his videos, the harder the lick, the more he concentrates, the more he smiles.. why couldent I get that :)

Gustav may lack a seperating unique creative element to his compositions, but it is far more 'creative' then then fernando miyata's one, in my opinion. @StreamOfMetal You has listened Jack Thammarat?, the winner 09 of GuitarIdol...for me is better than Guerra... I think the same, nobody wants another Satch or Vai... Guerra is a great great player but is similar to Satch.
For example, listen to Cesar Huesca or Emiliano Zapata, they have so much feeling to play, and his music it's not very similar to Vai and the others...

Gustavo's awesome but i think he bends notes a little too much... like... every other note is a bend.. got a bit boring and with watching that forced smile over and over as well.
i like his other stuff, his soloing and tonation is good but i think i still prefer Fernando Miyata's playing.

Gustavo won because he offers a complete package. He smiles, interacts with the audience and plays a convincing game. He may not excel at all aspects of the guitar...but neither does the other guy.

It´s not about who plays in whatever speed, or the way you play something like tapping with 8 fingers or playing with your teeth, it´s about who is original and can play beautiful music, I like how Gustavo demonstrates that he really enjoys his music and how fernando plays, but both are missing something that each other has.
I like Gustavo but Fernando should have won, he is much better, he has his own style of playing. Gustavo won because he love playing and he smiles during it.

Miyata does have more speed but their rhytm is another. Gustavo Guerra may not play as fast and wonderful as Myiata but has an excellent sense of rythm and his guitar goes beyond the technique.

let's not get irrational here. there's no need for insults or any bashing on either players for that matter. both are great players, but for the judges and crowd it was a matter of a combination of performance, show, and skill. in my honest opinion, fernando miyata is a better skilled guitarist. for me, gustavo is a bit too repetative and liquidy. he is a great player, don't get me wrong! however, in mine and many others opinions, fernando should have won in this one, judging on skill.

I voted for him based on his covers on youtube. Joe Satriani,Malmsteen,Eric Johnson. He plays them masterfully. Show me someone else that plays those three at the same level.

Gustavo won because he offers a complete package. He smiles, interacts with the audience and plays a convincing game. He may not excel at all aspects of the guitar...but neither does the other guy.

It´s not about who plays in whatever speed, or the way you play something like tapping with 8 fingers or playing with your teeth, it´s about who is original and can play beautiful music, I like how Gustavo demonstrates that he really enjoys his music and how fernando plays, but both are missing something that each other has.

Fernando is like that as well, he just sounds better and has a more unique style. This guy looks like a douche when he plays.

Miyata does have more speed but their rhytm is another. Gustavo Guerra may not play as fast and wonderful as Myiata but has an excellent sense of rythm and his guitar goes beyond the technique.

let's not get irrational here. there's no need for insults or any bashing on either players for that matter. both are great players, but for the judges and crowd it was a matter of a combination of performance, show, and skill. in my honest opinion, fernando miyata is a better skilled guitarist. for me, gustavo is a bit too repetative and liquidy. he is a great player, don't get me wrong! however, in mine and many others opinions, fernando should have won in this one, judging on skill.

no, to tell you the truth, i haven't. but you know that fernando wasn't judged just on guitar playing skills, it was also presentation. otherwise, he would have won. if it was a closed-session playing, and they just heard the recordings, you know, along with many others, that fernando would have creamed the competition. it would have been a landslide. :)

and no, the size of someone should NEVER judge them on their performance, but sadly, in a lot of cases, it does. it all depends on the crowd and judges. some are fair, others are extremely biased. sad but true. :/

Gustavo guerra has influences of Edu ardanuy, the biggest Brazilian guitarist, him better it and 1000 times of what Gustavo guerra. if edu ardanuy participace of guitar idol would gain 100% of the votes. who does not know, please looks for here in it you tube videos of edu ardanuy, its amazing

just to show how linear and shallow the music industry is. they probably only gave him the win becuz Fernando miyata doesnt have the look and such but if it was just based purely on skill Gustavo had no chance. He's good shouldnt have gotten first place in my opinion. So when u can play wit the same ability as fernando then say he sucks live cuz i doubt u can sweep, tap or do anything close to that. this dude up here is just a slash wanabe who got sum free lessons in his garage.
