Im not complaining btw! I love her singing style - old, new, whatever. What I love about Mariah was that she realized her status as a "diva" during the early to mid 90s and wanted to stay away from that image. Her voice isn't as powerful as it used to be, it's not vision of love powerful and her choice of genre is a bit annoying. I have hated her new direction after emancipation. What I've noticed is that she struggles in her middle register and connecting voice. Just as a comparison, I'd love to hear her sing Vanishing with the same tone and power now, with her chest voice as she did in the SNL version. Just to see the quality in her vocals. Just a thought...

Actually what those haters don't know is that it takes a lot of control and skill to accurately sing in the whisper register. Your voice may want to belt out but it be controlled. So if you can sing in the whisper register you have lots of talent.

It's actually a tool that helps any singer other then females. I can tell you (from personal experience since i'm being trained in opera) that for a guy it can get pretty tiring so switching when singing pop music from chest voice to a soft mix makes louder notes near the end easier to sing since it preserves so much of the voice until that time. Also it can be a sign of used vocals it infact is a sign of damage but it's the vocals keeping pressure off so they can continue to work fine.

I have always admire Mariah from the day 1, but let´s be realistic, after Butterfly her voice made a change... and a little latter, that was more obvious whenever she was performing live some of her old hits, and she could not sing them as she used to.... it is a pity but that is a reality... Some years ago, she always sang live in tv and in concert she was abssolutely brilliant, but her voice is not as good as it used to be...I still like her anyway.

her voice deteriorated starting 1997..because of her VOCAL NODULES...she dont want to remove them coz she might loss her voice and her whistle..but if she just rest her voice...in time..she will reclaim her voice...for now...just enejoy her music..^_^
