This is so beautiful, I feed scores of these beautiful little birds year round. They are always fascinating little jewels that captivate me! I watch them for hours, they tolerate me, I have even held them in my hand, but never have I seen them as you have shown them to us. You give us extraordinary vision...Thanks!!!!!
@whitemanik1 Technically, that's exactly what they are doing... although when it's happening in the air we have different names for it :-) Thanks so much for visiting!
We have a hummingbird who stands patrol in the plum tree over the feeder and only lets one female feed. Everyone else he shoos away. We call him "Beefy Joe." He has already provided hours of entertainment. He has an iridescent ruby head and he chitters when he sees us sitting in the hot tub, like he is conversing with us. I only wish I knew what he was trying to tell us.
@candacelove Hummingbirds are odd little critters... It's possible that Beefy Joe's female companion is a mate (or potential mate) of sorts, even though the males don't seem to have much to do with the girls (other than chasing them away) once they've mated. They are quite vocal though , and if he were talking specifically to you, it would probably be something like "...and make sure you keep that feeder filled with fresh juice!" XD Thanks so much for stopping by! :-)
@TechnicianMusic ha ha yes, that is exactly what I think he's saying. Keep that feeder filled. He certainly has the regal bearing of a grand puba. ha ha
@r2rnagy These shots range from a few inches to 25-30 feet away. The Casio EX-F1 is a great camera with a wide range of focal capabilities. I think the max optical zoom is 12x :-) Thanks so much for watching!
@LanaV6 Could be mis-clicks, or just some kids who only like blood and guts action vids... Seems like most everyone else likes it though, so no worries! :-)
@JCMDIweirdStuff Uh! Oh, I have done a mis click once or twice myself. So, that could be it. lol But, your vid's are so awesome. I love them all. Thank you. ;o)
Wonderful video of an amazing creature of God! It's amazing the speed of these tiny birds, even in slow motion! These sequences allow us to appreciate beautiful details of their skill and flight techniques in order to remain suspended in the air, go back and change direction!
The nature of biodiversity on our planet is amazing. I hope we can awaken the higher powers from blind greed to see the beauty it all, before it's been broken beyond repair. Love you video. Great Work.
I'm Curious Is This Really Using A Casio Ex-F1 And If So At What FPS ? I'm Also Wondering How Did You Upscale The Video And Put It Into HD ? Amazing Work By The Way
Most all of this was shot with the F1... 300fps and 600fps recording speeds were used. The upscaling process is fiendishly simple... just load the clips into Windows Movie Maker, edit the move as you like, and then render the final moie in 1280x720p :-) WMM does the rest!
They do indeed sound like large bees (bumblebees, etc.) Perhaps they come to have a look at you when you are wearing colorful clothing? They do tend to check out anything that could be a nectar source - especially reds and yellows :-)
@jcmegabyte I'm not sure what I was wearing but they came up to me when I wasn't looking. The birds in this area don't seem to be as shy as other areas I've lived. I've discovered that the sparrows love to listen to certain Olivia Newton John songs. If I sing, "if not for you" or "Have u never been mellow", they come up within 3 feet of me listening. I would be curious to see if this happens with other ppl---maybe play these songs outside & see if the birds come up listening.
Now THAT would be a cool thing to document on video... I'e always seen them come to food, but never to sounds... If you can get some videpo of hummingbirds coming in and hanging around to listen to Olivia, you'd have yourself quite an interesting a piece of footage! :-)
@jcmegabyte Actually, it was sparrows that came around, listening to me sing Olivia's songs. Like 3 birds. The little bird kept turning it's head in different directions, listening. It was about 2 to 3 feet away.
@lotsofgametime Some Natives believe the wee birds carry the spirits of the ancestors and they come sometimes to comfort you. I have had chickadees sit with me on a log. Very humbling.
I'd definitely like to see/film those Bee Hummingbirds, as well as many other tropical species - some of them are really amazing! All these scenes were filmed in my backyard in Santa Clarita California - which is about 40 miles north of Los Angeles. :-)
Thanks for the view and kind words :-) It seems to have done pretty well so far, and YT even featured it for a few days when I first posted it... but you never know what the public will like and watch!
Most of this footage was shot with a Casio EX-F1 high speed camera, at 300 and 600 frames per second, so the footage comes out already 1/10x and 1/20x slow motion when played back at the normal 30fps speed of video. I did all the editing in Windows Movie Maker, and there are a few HD scenes that were slowed down 1/4x in software were done using WMM's "slowdown" effect. :-)
they are beautiful, we dont see that many. I have a bird feeder and we live at the beach so the wonderful wild birds are everywhere. I love them one and all. .how special are these guys ?
They are definitely cool little birds. There are usually more of them around than meets the eye, and keeping a hummingbird feeder around all the time will get you the best results possible, as the birds learn where the good feeding spots are and return to them in subsequent years as well. :-)
I want to thank you for your invitation of friendship ..... I also want you to know I've seen some of your videos ... I think they are wonderful .. and incredibly professional ... It is undeniable that you know and handle the videoptica technique ... but it is also clear that your sensitivity ..... ampliamante surpasses the first .. Thanks again .. NAMASTE!
These clips were filmed with a Canon HD camcorder, and a Casio EXLIM EX-F1 high-speed camera... plus a LOT time and patience in the field getting the shots! This is the result of several months-worth of filming :-) Thanks for checking it out!
@jcmegabyte And thank you for your work ... Life - beautiful ... and because of the circumstances is unbearable from the cruelty and evil ... Your efforts help to purify the soul from the negative manifestations of ... Thanks.
This vid actually contains a variety of footage - some 1080p clips from a Canon HF100, as well as Casio EX-F1 footage. Even though the Casio resolution is pretty small, if the quality of the original footage is really good, it will upscale to 720p surprisingly well. It takes a LOT of filming and experimentation to get the best results from the camera though :-)
@jcmegabyte , what do the casio clips look like on a full sized HD TV? They look quite good here on YouTube, but really curious as to what they would look like blown up, how much pixelization? I did not think Canon had a camera capable of producing slow motion at 600 fps
You're right, the Canon HF100 only shoots 30fps/1080p. The 1/2000th sec shutter freezes the wing motion fairly well when played back at 1/4 speed. Casio footage upscaled to 720p by Windows Movie Maker looks pretty good when played back on the big screen. :-)
@jcmegabyte Just curious as my 7D will do 30fps at a max of 1/4000 SS and ISO 6400. I have not played with it yet, waiting for spring to arrive and the hummingbirds, but looking at your Casio results, it tweaked my interest, unfortunately I can not find anyone that handles Casio in Calgary. Sony is supposed to have a Camcorder that will do 320fps, but I have not seen much about it, as does JVC, but apparently only in PAL format
