hey man, what did buddy guy, stevie ray vaughan, jimi hendrix, eric clapton, jimmie vaughan, peter green, mike bloomfield use? lets face it, gibson makes a good guitar but les paul (whose focus was jazz) and bb king got their start in a world before Fender was as revered a company as it is now. I see buddy guy as the bridge between old world gibson enthusiasts and new world fender enlightenment thinkers.

A guitar is totally personal. Fenders and Gibsons are incredible guitar, but at the end of the day it's all about personal choice.

I have owned both. Started with the Stratocaster for years. I wasn't that happy with them. I switched to Gibsons and they totally fit me physically and sound wise.

One thing you forget to mention, half the fender guys you mention also play gibsons, including hendrix...so get your facts straight. Fender has always been a #2 guitar but they sound good in certain applications..so people play them as well. It's like comparing apples to apples, it's a no win, they both sound good in their own right...just certain people prefer gibsons which usually sound darker, and richer..compared to a fender which is lighter and has a fat long neck.

chicobolatilo, that does not mean Gibsons sound crap. Its just your personal preference. Others will think Tele's and Strats are far too clean. Personally I actually don't mind. I love the strat but I also love the SG. They both have great sounds for different types of music. If your playing country, you would cut through best on a tele. Its really bright and snappy, but if you want a bluesy rock n roll sound, an SG with a touch of gain will be perfect.
