I bought Maxinquaye with the red tape in woolworths down Bedminster. Got it home. Had a power cut. Listened on my walkman. Sounded weird. Couldn't understand it. Then realised my batteries were running down. Later power comes back on. Listen. Still sounds weird! Thanks to everyone who keeps it real.
He seems like such a kid in this interview, after listening Maxinquaye, I thought he was a truly talented yet fucked up individual, but he doesn't seem so much in this interview.
Somtimes it's the insane, messed up ones that are the true geniuses.
I always find it amazing and little ironic how despite living in LA, he still to this day has an incredibly deep Bristolian accent! Can't take the Bristol out of the man, it seems.
@WWAAK I think there are many different sides to Tricky, and being so highly intelligent, of course he's smart enough to show a friendly face when people bring their cameras out to see him. Why show his ugly dark side now? Save all that for the music. Save the sadness for when no one's lookin'. Besides, I think the fact that he's retained a childlike state of awareness is part of his genius and sensitivity. People that play that dark role are just fakers, Tricky's sadness comes from the heart.
She saw an ad in the paper or trade journal and applied, enclosing a CV and covering letter. Then she went to a first interview and answered questions from the TV's personnel department, and went back for a second and third interview in the following weeks. Eventually the channel offered her the job, and she accepted.
Listening to Maxinquaye, youd expect him to be quite subdued and insular, but he comes across really welcoming and great, the kind of person you'd really like to have a drink with.

To me, his sincerity and "realness" are revolutionary, as is his music, which I feel most fortunate to have come across.
What a brilliant, beautiful, insightful being; I admire him so.
Thanks for posting!

Tricky is brilliant. The woman doing the interview is useless. She conveys a complete lack of interest. How did she get a job?
