why not just use stereo head phone jack chord cost about 5 to 10 bucks plug into keyboard then plug other end into ipad and record on garage bang witch almost everyone has
99 dollar is a lot of money. And if I would buy this, I would mainly use it to record vocals (I also have plans to sometimes use a vocoder and/or vocal processor...I would attach a microphone to vocoder and/or vocal processor and attach the whole thing to an ipod touch or ipad). There is no example of a recording of vocals in this video-review. That's why I recommend adding an example of a recording of vocals in a similar next video-review, if you want to get more people interested.
This looks like total crap. That software is unusable for anything. I like the idea of getting actual midi outs/ins, but I'm doubting anything is gonna work right.
Might get me a MIDI Mobilizer 2 for my ipad. I've been unimpressed with the IO Dock. I keep hearing that the MIDI performance with it is poor & I run quite a few Apps that are portrait.
Can you use this as an "in" for other audio sources? Like a regular TRS line level source? I use V-Drums, and it is interesting for MIDI recording alone, but if it were *also* capable as an "in" for TRS I'd get it. Most of the adapters for iPhone "in's" are in mono TS for guitar or bass. Thanks.
Such a cool piece of gear! But argh, the Jupiter 6! I sold mine years ago for $300 including the flight case before I knew its true value. Thumbs up to help me kick myself in the arse.
@Denvermorgan2000 Gold connectors don't help midi, but not for the reason you're thinking of; gold connectors help analog and digital audio signals in that they allow for a higher rate of transmission and less corruption - but midi works by sending instructions rather than audio, and the midi standard defines how much data can go through and at what quality it needs to be read by.
@HaniiPuppy I dont think you got my point this device is a midi device no audio and midi is an old standard that is very slow and even if the connector were lead it wouldnt make much difference at all because all the audio from this device comes from the iphones head phone jack or what ever you have the midi interface controlling
Gold connectors are more of a gimmick than anything else just test your self buy a cheap cable and test it against a gold one and see if you can her the difference.
@Denvermorgan2000 There is no audio. It's midi, and the data throughput is governed by a predefined standard. If it were audio, gold connectors would provide a better quality audio stream that's free of any form of corruption. This, however, has nothing to do with the data throughput, it has to do with the better conductivity of gold, which will provide more stable connections.
@HaniiPuppy thats what im trying to say this is not an audio device thats why it doesnt matter if its gold or not and putting gold connectors on a midi device is dumb and besides even if it was audio neither you or anybody else can hear the difference the only reason they used gold is to try to make people think its better when i have seen test after test that proved that its not better to the human ear there is not discernable difference.
What I want is being able to midi sync some apps like BassLine(works over wifi but too much hassle),TechoBox or FunkBox etc with ease or able to play synths apps like NLogSynth with an external keyboard. To me, this thing seems bloody useless right now but in near future(I hope)could become an essential little attachment for everyone who likes making music on iPhone or iPad.It all depends on the developers of those fantastic music making apps.
the 'thru' and 'live' problem is solved with the MidiSolution Quad Merge (I tried the dual merge but it didn't work) but the Quad worked fine. Be sure to put the keyboard into port 1 so you don't drain iphone power
From what I understand, recent changes to the Apple App spec now allows App developers to make their Apps work with a hardware device like this (same goes for the Akai Synthstation 25). It'd be great if, at some point, you could plug an external MIDI keyboard into something like this in order to control a VI App. C'mon App developers!

Can I hook this thing up to my Roland TD-6 module and then export the midi file to a sofware? Will I get separate layers for each drum?

its so stupid to try to imply these gold connectors are better midi is so slow they
could be lead and it most likley wouldnt matter.

Do you know if there's any bluetooth piano keyboard on the market? I think a bluetooth Korg Nanokey to use with IPhone would be perfect, don't you?

I own this and I agree with everything he said. I bought it to store my novation nova midi/patch data.
Devs get on your job and make some cool music apps for this thing.
A midi Sequencer like JJSequencer would be sick n the iPad.

no - it only works with this one app - totally useless - $600 midi data recorder
you can do more with a $50 usb - interface and a mac or pc -
