Now, let's say that, hypothetically, Puerto Rico wanted to sever ties with the US, and the US decides to make threats toward Puerto Rico, saying that if they don't comply, US will launch an invasion and annex them. Don't you think the whole world would denounce the US, and wouldn't they be justified in doing so?
Regarding independence, even Quebec wanted independence from Canada in 1994. The reasoning has a lot to do with Cultural differences (same as Tibet) and economic differences (same as Taiwan).
If you are the president, you'd do anything to protect your own country from independence. There's absolutely no second choice.
So in order to protect the country from separating, they must make this transition as gradual as possible. Over the past 10yr, China went from socialist to a capitalist country. It's a matter of time before China will allow free information flow. But that can only happen after citizens are educated enough to assess what's real and what's not. I don't think China wants US manipulative prone media to break into their living room because even I have trouble assessing what's real and what's not
China is not exactly a capitalist country. Yes, they've relaxed a bit on trade laws so as to strengthen their economic gains, but they still have a ways to go before you can call them a "capitalist" nation.
And why do you blame all of this on US media? It's not only US media outlets that are supporting Tibetan freedom, but also many European outlets. Hell, the Europeans were protesting all over the place when the Tibetan crackdown happened a few years ago.

There was no Taliban when the Russians invaded Afghanistan. And besides, the Russians invaded Afghanistan not to liberate, but to add on to their empire. The Russian invasion of Afghanistan was no more noble than the American invasion of Vietnam was.

The Americans did not fund the vietcong when it was at war with the french like they did with what would be known as the Taliban in it's war with the U.S.S.R.

Not exactly. Most of the Taliban leadership were veterans in the fight against the Soviet invasion, but the Taliban was something different altogether. The Taliban developed many years later, and the Taliban accepted these "holy warriors" from anywhere, as long as they were Muslim.
Correct though, the Americans did not fund the Vietcong. The Soviets did fund the Vietcong through the NVA. And that was ten years earlier than their Afghan invasion. So we owed 'em one.

Yes, I am saying that. There was no Taliban when the US supported Afghan rebels against the Soviets. The Taliban took hold of that country about 10 years after the fact. The fact that some of them became radicalized over the next 10 years should not be so surprising. Blame the US all you want, but the US did not create the Taliban. The Taliban formed independently of US intervention.

But if we are the younger sibling of them it was probably a good idea not to cut the apron strings because it is not the younger brother that is hated by the rest of the world and has planes flying into its buildings.Its usually the responsibility of the oldest to set an example for its younger siblings. I can tell you this. Whatever the United States see China as unacceptable are all because United States are built from Democracy, so they cannot see what it means to China if there's a sudden announcement that China's going democratic.

They'll play the capitalism game with other nations, but they'll never offend or go to wars with other countries. Minding their own business have always been their motto.

I know what you mean, often times my government acts as if it knows what is best for the rest of the world, and we repeatedly ignore the rest of the world's opinion. But the US didn't ALWAYS impose it's ideals, that didn't start until the Cold War with the USSR. Before that, the US stayed out of world affairs for the most part (barring our brief engagements in the 2 world wars).

Concerning Taiwan, they obviously do not want to be a part of mainland China (neither does Tibet, but no one recognizes Tibet as being independent, so big difference). Now, let's say that, hypothetically, Puerto Rico wanted to sever ties with the US, and the US decides to make threats toward Puerto Rico, saying that if they don't comply, US will launch an invasion and annex them. Don't you think the whole world would denounce the US, and wouldn't they be justified in doing so?

Regarding independence, even Quebec wanted independence from Canada in 1994. The reasoning has a lot to do with Cultural differences (same as Tibet) and economic differences (same as Taiwan).
If you are the president, you'd do anything to protect your own country from independence. There's absolutely no second choice.

It's a matter of time before China will allow free information flow. But that can only happen after citizens are educated enough to assess what's real and what's not. China is not exactly a capitalist country. Yes, they've relaxed a bit on trade laws so as to strengthen their economic gains, but they still have a ways to go before you can call them a "capitalist" nation.
And why do you blame all of this on US media? It's not only US media outlets that are supporting Tibetan freedom, but also many European outlets. Hell, the Europeans were protesting all over the place when the Tibetan crackdown happened a few years ago.

I see you've been reading my healthcare rant on my page. Well, the reason that universal coverage has not been adopted in my country stems from the fact that the people who are insured do not want their premiums raised, even if it is for a good cause. I personally think it is selfish to deny coverage to people based on an aversion to paying extra taxes, but that seems to be the only time Americans care to follow politics. Wars, all good and fine. But raising our taxes = heresy to many.

Here's the difference between the US' perspective and mine.
Rather than attempting to understand the situation in China (that have a history of 5000 years), they look at the snapshot picture of it and go, "communist = bad, oppression = bad. Here's our chance to make them look like us"
