  • One my songs for 2011!

  • It's as if Bejar thinks that he can just add some disco and jazz elements to already used ideas and make an excellent song or album out of it. This song isn't bad, but the whole album is mostly a disappointment to me.

  • @Havenscope Yeah, well no one cares enough about your opinion to even be disappointed by it.

    Just fucking with you....

  • Good song to hear in the airplane above the sky!

  • canadian band singing about chinatown

sounds just about perfect to me

  • friend jus randomly showed me this song lol, pretty chill ~saved~

  • This is my Destroyer's favorite song. Anyway, morning. Early morning.

  • So cool, so easy, so right at 3AM.

  • @kristenandalanna Same here ♥♥

  • single of 2011 ;)

  • during my speck of dust tenure on this planet, this will ALWAYS be one of my favorite songs

  • Excellent finding!!! Great!!

  • I don't have anything against Pitchfork, but relying on just one music blog is like relying on one news source. Get multiple perspectives and, most importantly, listen to the music yourself and form your own opinions. :)

  • @ArkaDirtbagger fuck you p4k is the word of god

  • FUCK PITCHFORK

  • i love this shit and i don't care if it's cheesy, i love it...

  • 5 people walked away from Chinatown.

  • this....whole....album....<3

  • This is good for my health.

  • @KeandraBennett94 I'm totally not gonna give this cheesy gay-ass comment as thumbs-up

  • this is my album of the year. I don't care that the year is not over yet

  • dat sax.

  • Best album of ought '11

  • It kinda sounds like it was made 40 years ago.............and thats cool, very cool

  • !!! lovit!!

  • Can someone please explain to me why people hate Pitchfork so much?

  • Comment removed

  • @laloali2 i agree. some of my favorite albums ever are rated very low on pitchfork. if you aren't animal collective, pavement, or kanye west. there is a great chance you are going to get fucked in the ass by pitchfork. nothing against those artist i love pavement and all, but they hate a lot of bands i love. Deer tick comes to mind.

  • @laloali2

Hey. Aren't they allowed to have their own tastes and choices concerning music? What makes you believe that 9.5 is an undeserved grade for "Bon Iver" 's Bon iver? And what's wrong with giving an 8.8 for "Destroyer"'s Kaputt ? They're not obliging you to consider those albums as '8.8' or '9.5' while listening. If I had to do my own grades, I would give less for both albums.

It's naive to think objectivity exists in music ...

(Sorry for eventual mistakes, i'm not bilingual)

  • @laloali2

I don't think Kaputt deserves more than an 8.8. Same for Bon Iver's. But hey. 8.8 is a fucking good grade. Not like the album had been given a 5.0. Both albums are great, or may be considered as such. They deserve good grades. And they've been given good grades. And that's what really matters .. I don't think it's some kind of politics and things. Don't be too paranoid, mate .. Real shame is the 7.2 given to Björk's Vespertine. Hehe. Would have cried if Kaputt had been given 7.2. :p

  • @antoinedelval5914 Wow, Bon Iver's 'Bon Iver' is the best album released this year, and one of the best this past decade, it is definitely deserving of 9.5, if not more. Even if you don't like it, it it performed masterfully and it truly achieves everything it aims for.

  • @einXtein

Never said I didn't like it. I think that's a real good piece, but considering 10 as perfection, I would downrate a lot of albums. Not saying I dislike them. In my view, 7 out of 10 is a really good grade. Would have given an 8.0-8.5 to Bon Iver's Bon Iver.

But don't misunderstand me... I was, at the beginning, replying to laloali2 who claimed that Pitchfork's rating was biased by the fact that Bon Iver had worked with Kanye West, and therefore propaganda on him could work. Hem.

  • @antoinedelval5914 Oh... didn't get that part of the discussion. Still, 9.5 is just considering their grades of other albums. All is relative, if they give 'Father, Son, Holy Ghost' a 9.3, 'Bon Iver' surely deserved a 9.5. If I were to grade albums, 10 being absolutely perfect, one or two albums would ever step into the 9+ list, and none would ever be graded 10, but pitchfork is different.

  • @einXtein

lol bon iver's album was absolute shit

    everyone knows it

you can stop pretending to like his personal brand of poorly produced, bruce hornsby covers

p.s. beth/rest is a definite contender for worst song of the year along with moves like jagger and gold cobra

    opinions.

  • @antoinedelval5914 Vespertine was later included in the Top 200 Best Albums of the 2000s. ;)

  • I thought by the name it was some hardcore, what I was looking for but..wow this music..just wow.

  • Kapuut by Destroyer ,,wow,,,, I fall asleep to this album(: and YES, its compliment. By the way, can anyone provide any link where I can download the 5 bonus tracks from the Vinyl edition?

  • @steamyboy69 buy the vinyl edition. :>

  • Good song, arriba la buena musica!

  • Am I the only one who doesn't read P4K? I found this from the 2011 chart on RateYourMusic...

  • @KingCrimson776 I've been telling people for years now: Fuck Pitchfork, they suck. Go to RATEYOURMUSIC com. Cheers.

  • @missingt00th TRUE!

  • WTF? pitchfork sucks , always did. this album is let's say - great

  • Legibly enjoying music has nothing to do with publications like Pitchfork. I liked this album because I liked Destroyer, not because Pitchfork told me so.

  • ..In The Year Of The Cat...

  • @skyavalanche I am so glad you said that! The first time I heard this song on NPR, I thought Al Stewart had a new album! I love this song, and Destroyer, but I definitely get a Year Of The Cat vibe... Could be soooo much worse!

  • @skyavalanche

Hahaha. I'm glad I'm not the only that realized this sounded like Al Stewart.

  • if you like this try, Twin Shadow

  • @dan32113 zomg i love Twin Shadow

  • Wow, pitchfork was right about this album!

  • @mcclurn11 as much as we all may hate pitchfork, they're usually right....

  • @magicalchazwick I agree. However the 'Male Bonding' album that was a "best new music" selection was kinda so-so. The music wasn't bad, just unremarkable.

  • Pitchfork this, pitchfork that. The bottom line is that >most of the time< Pitchfork is right about the artists they give BNM to. I'll admit, I didn't really care for this the first time I heard it. But I realized there was something that that deserves recognition. The album has since grown on me. Most of the time the best music grows.

  • I LIKE THIS SONG

  • @natojacobs5 Its almost as if they review entirely on the basis of how 'unheard of' an artist is. They often give excellent albums dismal reviews, as if to seem controversial or unique. Their reviewers have extensive vocabularies, which would normally be a good thing, if it weren't for the fact that every 2nd sentence they produce is indecipherable to the average literate human.

In short, their reviews make them out to be conceited, always-on-their-high-horse pricks, with quirky tastes in music.

  • @natojacobs5 If they were to give good reviews to all of the albums that I enjoy, more often, that wouldn't change my opinion of them in any respect. Everyone has differing opinions, I respect that. My distaste for Pitchfork Media lies with the fact that they exemplify everything that I hate about the act of being 'indie', whereby if a band is played on the radio more than once, they are labelled "mainstream". If an artist sounds even remotely like another artist, Pitchfork tears them apart...

  • @natojacobs5 hahaha, I love excessively angry people. Do you suffer from Terets, good sir? Perhaps I would have some sympathy for you, if you did.

First of all, I was not aware that any "pitchfork hating bandwagon" existed to jump on. I just find myself genuinely disagreeing with their reviews 90% of the time. "Deal with it, you ass." Wow, great comment right there. I have dealt with it, as I never visit the site :D

And no, I don't mislike them purely for our differing opinions..(to be continued

  • this one's good, title track is much better though

  • he sounds like Nils Lofgren

  • What a wonderful tune.

  • who is pitchfork

  • This song is "so cherry." This is the best song off of an album of classics. Really love Bejar's style.

  • its weird when people claim they hate something but obsess over talking about it... this track is excellent and i cant wait to listen to it by the beach in the summer!!!

  • I was driving down the coast yesterday when this song came over the radio, CBC radio 2, and although it was raining at the time this song made me feel like the sun came out. Nice sound, I really like.

  • :)

  • You're not alone. These comments confirm it. Some of them

  • If you don't like it, don't go listen on youtube so you can tell everyone. And pitchfork doesn't always just promote boring music. Theres alot of hardcore on there now from time to time.

  • queen elizabeth park!

  • This Kaputt's me into a beautiful frame of mind. The herb and the wine certainly don't hurt as well.

  • Why all this hate ? If you don't like Pitchfork's tastes in music, just stop listening to music they praise .. It's not like they were trying to impose it as an ideal.

    Peace.

  • This album is a 9.0 for me. Out of 9.0

  • Pitchfork sucks because it described lyrics in Dntel's Rock My Boat as inane. Not because they like this song because this song is good.

  • It's gonna take a lot of love...to change the way things are

  • Pitchfork simply sucks. This deserves 8.8? Cmon...

  • Nice sound.

  • ha this is bizarre but i enjoyed it

  • a combo of elements from film noir, 50's harmony, 60's phili sound, 70's mirror ball, 80's new wave, 90's east european and a hit today

  • sounds like freak folk had a weird threesome with chillwave and the 80's

all i can say is nice... nice...

  • @y3k23k how is this freak folk lame

  • Hey I was just listening to this album on youtube thinking it was pretty cool but also was thinking maybe we can start a flame war about how much we hate this band like we're on a dub step forum or something...?

  • @tsrhodes1 me gusta

  • Pitchfork Media is the fucking worst music reviewing website in history.

  • @9monkeyman9, Stuffe

  • @9monkeyman9 that's probably not true...

  • @9monkeyman9 agreed. I hear their 50 best cd's of the year and cringe. Horrible.

  • @9monkeyman9 Hey, atleast we don't have to pay to hear their opinions.

I find out about some pretty decent music just by listening to the samples.

IMO I would say NME is the worst music reviewing magazine in history. Those guys have no idea what the fuck they are doing.

  • @9monkeyman9 yes,because kaputt deserves 10,not 8.8,totally agree

  • @9monkeyman9 oh hey you fucking idiot. Jumping on the hipster bandwagon now that it's been cool for about 6 years to hate pitchfork? People like you, you're the real hipsters. pitchfork sucks sometimes but sometimes they're right on target and their news section rocks. Deal with it, you ass. It's all about opinion. So if they agreed with you all the time, you'd like them, eh? don't say no, I know that's true.

  • This reminds me of the 1974 movie by the same name. Coincidence?

  • @SageDesus Jack Nicholson. Awesome movie.

  • @PabloHoney91, Stuffe!

  • This song so fucking AMAZING !! MAN !!

    Cheers From Mexico

  • Why is an alternative/folk band called Destroyer? Further, why did I take music suggestions from Pitchfork expecting anything else?

  • @IamPinhead As to the first question, I suppose it's cause they can call their band whatever they want. As to the second, I have no clue. Pitchfork is very distinctive in its tastes.

  • @shloobenstein I would say Pitchfork is very idiotic in its tastes. They like to distinguish themselves from the rest just by praising boring music. I wouldn't listen to this band even if I was in the necessary mood - a long and profound depression.

  • @back2back75 whatever it's all about opinion. Attacking someone for their taste is fucking retarded and childish as hell. I don't hate justin bieber, i just ignore him. I don't listen to death metal but I don't 'hate' it. I like indie pop but I don't hate on people who are like "ANIMAL COLLECTIVE HIPSTER GARBAGE". No one has 'Better Taste" than anyone else.

  • lovvvvving the baeleric horns as well~ have listnd to this 20 times today, THANKS! :D

  • this is pleasantly reminiscent of the smiths half a person~ good effort!
