The Joker's real origin has never been told in the comics. Or, rather... there have been multiple stories. The "Fell into a tub of acid" thing was a story in The Killing Joke that turned out to most likely be BS. TDK's Joker was very different from the comics, but still amazing. Sometimes different is good... even though it makes fanboys fly into nerdrage mode.
i just don't see why they can't just put another joker in the third film who is the real joker while the other one (heath) is just a fan boy or a mad man wearing his number since the real clown is more energetic and fell into a tub of acid and is more classy!
That wouldn't work in the chris nolan movies, since it's more realistic and gritty. In RL it's quite improbable for someone who fell into a vat of chemicals/acid to have come out with bleached skin, and no other kind of physical damage.. that, assuming the individual wouldn't have died in the first place. And making Heath a joker fanboy would greatly diminish his character in TDK. Personally, I like both incarnations of the Joker, and they should stay in their own universes.

Heath's death seems to be one of the most devastating occurrences in the film world. I've been on so many forums and seen how controversial it would be to recast someone else to portray the Joker. It's pretty big issue. People are insane about it. It fucking sucks that he died so young. I wonder if they can realistically pull off a CG version of Heath as the Joker.

Thing is, it's awesome that heath ledger spiced up the role of joker and made the dark knight an even greater movie as it should be but even if heath ledger wasn't cast the joker. The Dark Knight would still have been great and other actors would have still made the joker role awesome with respect to heath of course.

IMDB-dot-com, which is pretty reliable, indicates that there's a "rumored" third Nolan Batman movie due to be released next year. We'll just have to wait and see how this rumor pans out. Personally, I hope it's true. I would love to see another Batman movie on the big screen!

Dark Knight made around a billion dollars, of course there's going to be a sequel. Chris Nolan has been working on Inception, so thats why it is taking so long. But Nolan has said that he is coming back to make a third, probably be released in 2012.
I think they should re-cast the joker, but not Johnny Depp. I love Johnny Depp, think he's great, but I can't see him as the joker. The best choice would be Daniel Day Lewis, but's that'd never happen.

Ledger's death destroyed any chance of a good sequel with the Joker as a main character. They'll need to come up with a new villain from the comics--they did a great job in Batman Begins without any of the mainstream villains (Freeze, Riddler, Penguin, ect). David Goyer wrote the 3rd movie when he wrote the Dark Knight, and alot of people speculate that the joker's capture was going to introduce Harley Quinn for the third film....but since Heath's passing, they have to come up with a plan B now. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the franchise needs a QUALITY Robin story. Dark Knight was great because it was grounded in reality and disturbing. The same can be done for Robin. No camp or sillyness. Just a hardcore story about a child fighting in the adult world of crime. Done properly it could be provocative and compelling.

Aha if I had to guess he sounds very coy about it but that he knows Nolan may very well attempt to incorporate the Joker in the next movie despite the loss of Ledger. Not incorporating such a major surviving character into the next story I think will prove too impossible for Nolan and his storytelling responsibilities. I think he'll take the big plunge and recast him. But you need someone of caliber to do it, someone the audience/critics already respect and someone with the balls. Johnny Depp?
Well I dont think they should resort to any CGI gimmickry to replicate Heath's appearance. It would only serve to trivialize and make convenient light of his death. They should just bite the bullet and recast the role with another esteemable actor. Ledger gave a great performance but there are so many more Jokers out there. Ledger gave one of the great performances we've seen but I fear his death has tricked people into putting him on some unreachable pedestal. Its just not true.
Nolan fucked up both of my fave Batman villains in the same movie, Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow. But did phenomenal with Joker and Harvey TwoFace, i say he should take on Clayface or Calender Man.

Perfect next film idea: Batman has given up. Jokers in arkham, extremely calm and quiet since batman quit. Batman comes out to stop a bank robbery where people have died, joker sees it on the news at Arkham, goes back to his manic ways. The police hire Edward Nigma to track down and figure out who batman is, but he goes too far and becomes obsessed. They drop him, so he starts pulling off elaborate crimes to draw Batman to him. Joker means Quinn in arkham and she falls in love with him.
yeah, but in the film series, he's a hitman for the mob. The mobs pretty much fallen apart, all the bosses have been murdered or imprisoned, so there'd be little point in him being out there.

Not everyone is familiar with that villain, he is less known than, say, The Joker or Mr Freeze. You have to take into account people who go to see these films who only know the most basic info about the characters life story.

He actually gets so into the voice acting that he jumps around and such when he does it, they even used some of his antics for animation ideas in the animated series, that being said he's getting pretty old :(
in order to bring back the joker the movie would have to set out a few years later. say about 5 -10 years that way who ever plays the joker (johnny depp) it would show change a diferent joker cause of time.

The Joker has been played my many fine actors (in particular, Mark Hamill and Jack Nicholson). Heath Ledger was great, sure. But he wasn't the first great Joker, and he will NOT be the last.

My favourites villains for the last film of bats are...(please you have to recognised that is a good idea) THE RIDDLER (main mastermind villain obsessed with question Gotham people about the true nature of Batman after Joker´s incident) and HUSH (connected story of vengeance with Bruce Wayne and would be good actions scenes in the film) and don´t forget the final epic message to complete the trilogy and CLOSE IT DEFINITELY. (The other alternative plan is leave TDK as the final film of Batman).
Edward Nigma should come in and try to take fox's place. Then gets turned down by Bruce starting him on his whole obsession on getting back at him. That would be interesting to see. I'm not too sure about catwoman being at all in Nolan/Batman becasue of the fact that she had her own movie where she was made into a hero.
After Lucious Fox leaves, the penguin(played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman) should take his job, and do illegal weapon deals, where he disguises guns as umbrella's.
Here's my prediction. Two-Face will either: Become the next mob boss (Falcone/Maroni) or have a cameo smiliar to cranes in TDK. Rachel Dawes becomes Catwoman, Interesting theory. Jolie pretty interesting to see. I heard Kate Beckinsale for this also, I would love to see that. Villainwise Black mask played by Hugo Weaving in a role similar to Hans Gruber from Die Hard. @thereinecke oh dude i know man.... The Joker, how Heath Ledger portrayed him was exactly how Joker is meant to be portrayed as - a psychotic sociopathic lunatic who's main job is terrorism. Joker was and is a lunatic terrorist. And Heath did such a great job that I dont think that even Johnny Depp could pull it off. Maybe 50 to 100 years down the road someone may be good enough to claim themselves as a great Joker..... not right now.

Ledger's death destroyed any chance of a good sequel with the Joker as a main character. They'll need to come up with a new villain from the comics--they did a great job in Batman Begins without any of the mainstream villains (Freeze, Riddler, Penguin, ect). I just HOPE that Megan Fox won't be catwoman.

@RideTheCatfish SERIOUSLY! If you ask me, the BEST direction for them to go is to introduce Harley exacting revenge on the Joker's behalf. Maybe start it out at Arkham and show her working. She sees the news that Joker's dead and THEN she takes on the role of Harley! It's NOTHING like the comic book storyline, but neither was Dark Knight. Someone said they would have Johnny Depp as Riddler, but NOONE can play him like Jim Carey! HE WAS BRILLIANT!!! Dunno who could pull of Harley though....

David Goyer wrote the 3rd movie when he wrote the Dark Knight, and alot of people speculate that the joker's capture was going to introduce Harley Quinn for the third film....but since Heath's passing, they have to come up with a plan B now. Alot of people love the Dark Knight....but the scary thing is that it was even going to be better....but some scenes were cut out after Heath's passing including the final scene of the movie which was the joker at Arkham Asylum meeting Harleen Quinzel.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the franchise needs a QUALITY Robin story. Dark Knight was great because it was grounded in reality and disturbing. The same can be done for Robin. No camp or sillyness. Just a hardcore story about a child fighting in the adult world of crime. Done properly it could be provocative and compelling.

Everybody is talking about how "esteemable" an actor they must get to replace Heath Ledger as The Joker. I think Heath Ledger was incredible, don't get me wrong, but nobody thought he was going to do the job as The Joker that he did. When I heard he was the new Joker I cringed. But I was proven wrong. It doesnt always have to be the best actors to pull something off, in that I mean, Heath Ledger suprised alot of people, maybe someone else can, and someone else could maybe do it better? Ya know?

I see your point, but due to the fact that Heath "knocked it out of the park" and subsequently died with the joker being his last role,whoever plays the joker next definitely has the deck stacked against him. However, if I was to pick an actor to portray the joker, i would have to go with Peter Sarsgaard.

Aha if I had to guess he sounds very coy about it but that he knows Nolan may very well attempt to incorporate the Joker in the next movie despite the loss of Ledger. Not incorporating such a major surviving character into the next story I think will prove too impossible for Nolan and his storytelling responsibilities. I think he'll take the big plunge and recast him. But you need someone of caliber to do it, someone the audience/critics already respect and someone with the balls. Johnny Depp?

Well I dont think they should resort to any CGI gimmickry to replicate Heath's appearance. It would only serve to trivialize and make convenient light of his death. They should just bite the bullet and recast the role with another esteemable actor. Ledger gave a great performance but there are so many more Jokers out there. Ledger gave one of the great performances we've seen but I fear his death has tricked people into putting him on some unreachable pedestal. Its just not true.

Nolan fucked up both of my fave Batman villains in the same movie, Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow. But did phenomenal with Joker and Harvey TwoFace, i say he should take on Clayface or Calender Man.
Or Black Mask and Scarface w/Wesker and throw in Hush, that would be awesome!

Perfect next film idea: Batman has given up. Jokers in arkham, extremely calm and quiet since batman quit. Batman comes out to stop a bank robbery where people have died, joker sees it on the news at Arkham, goes back to his manic ways. The police hire Edward Nigma to track down and figure out who batman is, but he goes too far and becomes obsessed. They drop him, so he starts pulling off elaborate crimes to draw Batman to him. Joker means Quinn in arkham and she falls in love with him.

yeah, but in the film series, he's a hitman for the mob. The mobs pretty much fallen apart, all the bosses have been murdered or imprisoned, so there'd be little point in him being out there.

Not everyone is familiar with that villain, he is less known than, say, The Joker or Mr Freeze. You have to take into account people who go to see these films who only know the most basic info about the characters life story.

He actually gets so into the voice acting that he jumps around and such when he does it, they even used some of his antics for animation ideas in the animated series, that being said he's getting pretty old :(

Johnny Depp as the riddler is pointless. If Depp plays anyone, he should replace Ledger's Joker. Look at the freakin' posters for Public enemies! DEPP COULD DO IT. It's extremely sad and tragic that Heath Ledger died, but in continuity the Joker didn't.
At least get Harley Quinn and have her work through the Joker in the shadows...

but like, here's what gets me on the Riddler in the new Batmans..
the new Batmans, focus on the more darker, and serious side of Batman, so they used pretty serious characters, like Ras, and his arch enemy the Joker (who if you think about it, was a really fucking serious dude to begin with =p) I cant see them using such a stupid and more un important clown then the joker.

The Joker has been played my many fine actors (in particular, Mark Hamill and Jack Nicholson). Heath Ledger was great, sure. But he wasn't the first great Joker, and he will NOT be the last.

My favourites villains for the last film of bats are...(please you have to recognised that is a good idea) THE RIDDLER (main mastermind villain obsessed with question Gotham people about the true nature of Batman after Joker´s incident) and HUSH (connected story of vengeance with Bruce Wayne and would be good actions scenes in the film) and don´t forget the final epic message to complete the trilogy and CLOSE IT DEFINITELY. (The other alternative plan is leave TDK as the final film of Batman).

I'm not too sure about catwoman being at all in Nolan/Batman becasue of the fact that she had her own movie where she was made into a hero.

Here's my prediction. Two-Face will either: Become the next mob boss (Falcone/Maroni) or have a cameo smiliar to cranes in TDK. Rachel Dawes becomes Catwoman, Interesting theory. Jolie pretty interesting to see. I heard Kate Beckinsale for this also, I would love to see that. Villainwise Black mask played by Hugo Weaving in a role similar to Hans Gruber from Die Hard. Riddler preferably played someone unknown (that's my opinion) Hush would be cool to see. and for some fucked reason

Batman goes to Arkham to see if he knows something. In a setting reminiscent to the begining of The Killing Joke Batman trys to see what he knows but the Joker just sits back and plays solitare. before Batman leaves the Joker deals him a Dead Man's Hand (Prologue to R.I.P.)

If Magguie Gylenhal is signed on to reprise her role of Rachel Dawes, I figure it would be for a flashback sequence.
As for Catwoman, I can't seem to remember the last time Catwoman's name was Rachel Dawes... though SELINA KYLE is one I do remember, and not just because of Michelle Pfeiffer's puuuurrrrrfect representation of the character in 1992.
