because if the cue ball is touching a red ball, touching ball is called. this enables ronnie to play away from the pack with no penalty because the red does technically come into contact with the cueball during the course on his shot

I'm quite happy to see someone trying something new; at least we're not seeing the same predictable shots.

Steve's new method leaves no pot afterwards and, if the white stays close to but not touching the bottom of the pack, leaves a difficult return to baulk. If, as we saw here, the white does stay touching, a return to baulk is easy.

Play the orthodox break and often a pot is left, sometimes even a winning break is made. Attacking play certainly but is it always the correct tactic?

As much as I like steve davis as a character, i find that style of play pretty pathetic. Ronnie took it in good humour because the premier league is a bit more relaxed, but i saw davis do this in a ranking tournament as well, and by breaking off that way, it's basically an admittance that he can't live with the top players any more. If that's the case, then maybe he should call it a day. No wonder darts is winning the battle with snooker when you see play like that!

I love the Premier League, but its really fucking dumb that Mark Selby didnt get invited this year.

Hi Jake, I looked very very closely and I agree that the red moved, but if you look very very very closely, you'll see that it "settles", it's not struck. It moves BEFORE Ronnie's cue could possible come in contact with it.

Well spotted, it definitely moves, but it wasn't Ronnie's doing. I've had this happen many times over the years. It's just a case of the ball "settling". Most likely caused by the tension in his fingertips on the cloth while bridging.
