  • What an amazing lyric "Hire a spy and bug me, pimp your friends for money, rich and growing sicker, sell the dead ones quicker"

    Anyone Agree?

    Layne Staley forever

  • @coonscrib hell yea man ! i thought i was the only one!

  • his voice is way better on the studio version, but the instrumental looks perfect!!!

  • @joaoa13portugal except that first chorus, he belted that one out way better than the album version. plus he had no backing vocals on this

  • @Rattshewantsmoney did I give you permission to speak to me? SHUT THE FUCK UP!

  • fawk i love layne i named my son after him

  • 5 people have fucked up minds

  • amazing!

  • Bad ass!

  • This shit is my soundtrack for ...the ..um last 15 yrs or so?? wicked to se some live shit though

  • thanks for posting!! anyone add me i love aic/mad season peace out!

  • kad se zapijem ovo je moja pesma

  • @baudzentl hahahah

  • Ooooh Layne....

  • What made me think of it was the flashing skull.

  • Because I saw it in my brother, and another person that I had been working with.

  • Did you ever notice someone when you were talking to them, that their skin had a sickly, grey-white tone, sort of pasty and you thought this person is not well only to find out that they had died. It's a very eerie feeling. This comment is not about this video. Just a general comment.

  • I've said this before, but this album doesn't really show Mike's true talent like Ten does. He goes shitfuck crazy on EvenFlow. On the Mad Season album it seems like Mike tried give his best Jerry Cantrell impersonation.

  • @ComaAlpha Layne and Eddies vocals were quite different. Layne was more on the high end and Eddie was baratone. So the guitars have to change to suit. He wasnt imitating Jerry.

  • @washburned1 Very good point.

  • This is a fantastic song by a fantastic group of musicians. Layne Staley showed how truely versitile he was as an artist while working with Mad Season.

  • Great vid. Mad Season are underrated as fuck, especially considering Layne and Mike were in the band. Also who the hell are the 5 retards that downrated this?

  • @VinMetal666 probably nickleback fans

  • @VinMetal666 we can only hope they were drunk or high and hit the wrong button...I don't wanna believe there are people in this world who don't like Layne or Madseason. They dun goofed!

  • @VinMetal666 I agree with you, this is by far very underrated. It would take a real fuckin idiot to downrate this. I mean come on this is Layne and Mike we are talking about.

  • mad season so god damn fucking underrated

  • Why aren't there like 1000 more videos of Layne? What a fucking incredible human being. They should have just recorded him singing acapella for 2 hours.

  • where is mark

  • que buen disco para escuchar de pepa

  • What in god's name is holding Layne up?

  • Best Song Ever.

  • layneeee! =D i love you.........

  • the drumming reminds me of ZEPPELINS FOUR STICK'S track awsome

  • @asianthor reminds me of the drummer form helmet

  • Wish Mad Season would have made more songs.

  • so this is where Layne's footage comes from in the Class of '99 video

  • @bjh53186 well discovered i wondered that too!

  • true

  • Uno dei dischi più significativi degli ultimi vent'anni.. capolavoro

  • Layne Staley's voice is my dope. I'm strung out and when I'm not listening to him one day, I've strong withdrawal symptoms that drive me crazy.

  • Dude, exactly.

  • @h0ll0h is this english?

  • Il miglior progetto degli anni 90. Pura poesia.

  • Dammit Layne, why'd you have to die? He made some of the best music of the 1990s.

  • i love mad season more than i can love me

  • I wish I was in this most awesome crowd !

  • I was at this show. It was amazing. Their opening band were these Native American dudes from the market.

  • The drums intro sounds like "Throw Away Your Television", a Red Hot Chili Peppers song =P.

    Very nice song! =)

  • This is a cool video, I like how they did that with the crowd, kind of like the video for River of Deceit

    RIP Layne

  • such a nice song ever!!!!

  • Kick Ass song.

  • ah yes.. like to stop by and get a tune up :D

  • Mike McCready took a dose from both Jimmys when he wrote that riff

  • this song sounds like a lost track of of Physical Graffiti. tasty stuff!

  • you know I never noticed that, but you're right, no wonder I love this song so much, Pearl Jam+Screaming Trees+Alice in Chains+Led Zeppelin sounding riffs= one of the greatest bands of all time.

  • what's a c-a-s-s-e-t-t-e? Ha,ha just kidding old timer, my pop's got 1 too. MAD SEASON freaking great stuff.

  • blah blah..keep it simple people i choose to love and cherish the memory and songs of layne..peace

  • freakin brilliant !!

  • Blessed we are to see such a maniefestation of talent unfirl before us, a shame most of us only take from mad season and of lane his music and not the message. Few seldom see with eyes so free from the emotional (season). Lane was and is a meduim a bridge to a higher conatus. His talent was represented well in his bringing to the music world an awareness of Kahlil gibran and in the end better lives for even those whom are not able to reach the conscio

  • the consciousness of the sublime.

  • Phuck peace, and wheat grass to, my father comes not in peace nor do I. As a musican, an artist, you should be aware that, this person whom you'd see as warped by drugs has acheived something you've not, he's got millions and millions to relate to his music and him. One cannot seperate the music and the measage they are one, if one could you should try selling just beats, at least you'd be felt.

  • I respect your right to take from this song what you will. Some people just like to be hit with the music and to be damned with what they are about. I'm listening to a song, not reading a book. I don't think my opinion takes anything away or is meant to take anything away from what Layne accomplished. For example, I used to be obsessed with analyzing the meaning behind The Doors lyrics, until I realized that, in some cases, was a collection of random jottings musings experiences, etc...

  • I totally agree with both of your comments, man.

  • ha, i've done plenty of drugs in my time and still do. that being said, yes, i do have a small penis.

  • @GrizzlTooth LOL we all do some kind of drugs...that being said why you relating it to your penis? Unless you are talking about having coke dick...LOL.

    RIP LAYNE

  • @GrizzlTooth hahaha

  • @GrizzlTooth yeah didnt need to know that man

  • @GrizzlTooth Are you and your infantile penis dead yet?

  • @Boganator4 easy now...let's not get too crazy

  • @GrizzlTooth Haha best comeback ever.

  • Amazingly they wrote and recorded all these songs in the same 10 day period. I also heard something along the lines that they even created a few of their songs while playing at their first live performance at the moore, now thats some bad ass raw talent :D.

  • I melted this CD I played it so much. Every song rules! I'm so sad I want more LANE!

  • Bad Ass !!!

  • barret martin what an amazing drummer!!!

  • mad season will forever be my favorite band u cant beat this!!!

  • i think part of this video was taken for the class of 99 - the wall video, didn't it??

  • I dont think this was 99, Layne went quiet for 5 years till only 5 months before he died.

  • more like 95-94 before he got back with AIC

  • every song on that record is a classic. this is what happens when all-time greats work together.

  • My favorite Mad Season song, I've decided. lol

  • mc cready is the man these songs are great and layne of coarse

  • this song at beginning reminded me throw away your tv -RHCP

  • muito foda,brigadao theedge23.

  • fuck you turk...get your ears checked

  • Another of my favorites off Above-they were all great

another amazing performance by Layne and the rest of the guys

  • One of the best bands from this era... unfortunately 2 of them are dead now because of heroin. I just hope people would take this as a cautionary tale at least.

    Heroin sucks...

  • if you guys know the aic song rain when i die, well it was his wish for it to rain when he died, i researched it, and he got his wish, i wish i could have been able to meet him before he died

  • Did you research the day of April 5th, cause according to the autopsy that was his actual death date, the body was found the 20th of April.

  • ya i know, u know, it was just really simple, i asked if it rained when layne staley died, the weather report was certain that yes it did rain

  • very insulting. I think he sounds good here man, Mad season's rugged and he sounds the like. It's fucking Layne Staley! he sounds like Layne fucking Staley!

  • please everyone stop talking like they know why layne died. i find it insulting

  • i agree nick my wife knew him, its very insulting,he gave the world his soul with this!

  • This song is unreal. The drums are beastly

  • my favorite voice of all time

  • Layne, dont hide from us. youre so hysterical.

  • Thoughtful and talented grunge supergroup.

    Thnx for vid.

    -GSG-

Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

    -Mark Twain

  • nah layne commited jihad.

  • wtf? was that supposted to be funny?

  • ...that's stupid..i think jim morrison was talkin' about those kind of people when he said:"u'll eat shit if they told u to"

  • layne didn't kill himself...his addiction killed him.....the lyrics in his songs told the progressive story.....almost a prophetic tale .......give them all a listen

  • Lane didnt kill himself because of fame, he killed himself because he was an addict. One of the biggest losses to music in the last 30 years! It is extremely unfortunate that we do not have his creative spirit haunting our airwaves anymore.

  • what the heck!?

  • Really dont understand how there could be anybody out there that doesnt like this song. So much heart and passion. "x-ray mind reads plenty, worth no more than pennies."

  • I love this band, they sound even better live!

  • love mad season! musik from the heart....

  • Layne's lyrics are fuckin great. No cookie cutter shit. Boy do I miss new music from him. LAyne Thomas Staley......Rich and getting sicker....God love him.

  • This guy was unique, his voice was, surreal, the band was, retro modern.

  • rap and hip hop is on its way out but now we gotta get passed the new dysney craze. great rock has taken a back seat before but has always come back with a vengance and will again.

  • Yeah.

  • Yup

  • That music already exists, but you won't find it on tv or the radio, and that is a very good thing.

why you would want good music to enter popular consumer culture is a mystery to me.

    Think about it.

what is popular is what capitalism chooses to market and exploit.Popular music isn't music, it's a product...a cynical scheme designed to make money, it has everything to do with image and nothing to do with music.

  • So true man u got a lot of wisdom...popular music is out there to make money not cuz thats what they love to do...people only listen to pop music out there cuz thats what the media puts out there and if so n so says hey this music is cool then fuckerz in the world will buy the cds...lil wayne don't rite his music...wtf??!?I'm soo glad AIC Pearl Jam Soundgarden wasn't popular on tv or anything...jerk mcmuffins like mtv Kills music!! Pop music can stay on tv cuz thats teh farthest theyre gonna go!

  • Without capitalism, and without music companies having exploited the "grunge scene" in the early 90's, the movement would have stayed in Seattle, and Micheal Jackson would have remained #1 for many more years.

Sorry Seattle people, but thank god music companies exploited it or the gifts of AIC/Mad Season would never have reached the worlds ears and we all wouldn't be able to view phenomenal videos and bands like this one.

Don't blame capitalism, blame crony capitalism and greed.

  • "Micheal Jackson would have remained #1 for many more years." So..why does other peoples choice of music bother you?

90% of those grunge bands are broken up now, alot of the musicians ended up dying.Maybe those guys would still be alive, touring, making good music if they hadn't been exploited.

  • "would never have reached the worlds ears and we all wouldn't be able to view phenomenal videos and bands like this one."

It's obvious that sudden fame has very negative effects on people, the bands said it themselves.Ultimately, i think if you ask most of them would say that they regret the whole grunge "movement" thing ever happened.

I guess i view them as real people, not just the sound coming through my headphones.

  • i'm not sure i agree with u man(i know u most probably don't care if i do but i'll continue to write anyway :P)... i mean even if grunge didn't had a mainstream success there would still be people lookin' for that different sound and attitude...and grunge would still find its way out of seattle..and in a way i think that would be the better way 'cause ...mainstream is mainstream...i mean there are like people who listen to a certain music just 'cause it's "mainstream"..fuck that...

  • yeah, but this music helped a lot of people. Definitely helped me during difficult times. I think it's a mistake to believe that bands of this era didn't know what they were doing or what they wanted. They signed the pens too. No one forced them to sign massive record deals. Jerry said that Layne was never afraid to be a rock star, so I don't think he would regret the success. It's a shame he did drugs, but what's done is done.

The grunge scene made the entire music industry better, nuff said.

  • yea and layne didnt do drug s cause he couldnt handle being a super star he did it to wash a way pains from losing loved ones

  • how do you know? ha

  • You have no clue. I have to listen to it from fucking high schoolers who still like disney. Layne would fucking cream them all. Just listen to him.

  • Same here bro.

Nobody at my schools listens to good music.

  • Hell yes. Preach it, my brother.

  • SUCH A HUGE LOSS....

Layne can never be replaced! what vocals/talent!

  • yeah bro

  • X-ray mind reads plenty, worth no more than pennies

  • Fucking electrifying. Mad Season was amazing.

  • pyschadelic

  • layne sounds amazing in this video, R.I.P. baby

  • great album...Shows the people involved weren't one trick ponies. Most people i know don't even know about them...A true gem

  • keep your head held high, good music is to come. look at the pop culture that happened in the earlier years... most of it really sucked. i just consider it another one of those decades. 2010 comes around, we might hear something good.

  • yea i agree with you. i think in a couple years someone is going to bring in great music.

  • Let's hope so bro.

  • my favorite song of mad

  • he would have thought "oh this is probably exactly where this belongs"

  • Grunge is alive now more than it was before. It was co-opted by corporate America in the mid to late 90s and destroyed. Now it belongs to those for whom it was truly intended.

I mean, what would Cobain have thought about "smells like teen spirit" being played during a high school basketball game shootaround circa 1996?

  • i agree, the damn media really fucked layne over though. its why i absolulely hate the media. the media is te reason why so many stupid white kids in america listen to rap music. and if it wasnt for the media layne would be still alive, fuck the media. its sad cuz i always talked about alice in chains and grunge music in my school. there was one kid who liked alice in chains out of a school of about 800 kids.

  • Enjoyed your tunes Layne. RIP

  • Grunge is mostly dead, apart from what Kelsiiik said, Pearl Jam and Mudhoney is still there, but now it's all new metal, emo etc, it's just not the same...

  • You must not forget that time doesn't stand still. We can sit sadly and think of the past, but look around you and you'll find out there is music everywhere. Grunge is some kinda dead, but that's because now it's '08, not '94. When I look in my hometown (Groningen, Netherlands) there are so many great guitarists and musicians, but they all look at the past: blues, jazz, hardrock. I know at least one person who complete adept to Metal: Joe Satriani, he's amazing! Check it out!

  • definitely a great song. totally agree that mad season was unique. they were a breath of fresh air. wish they made more!

  • Great, great song. The drums and percusion opening and a great guitar riff, guitarist worked well, cause we don't listen these kind of riffs on PJ songs. Mad Season was a unique band with amazing musicians.

*Check Loose Ground for some new Rock/Grunge*

  • It's really too bad music like this can't be produced these days. There is so much whiny crap now.

  • bravo

    you read my mind

  • grunge is definatly not what it should be.. i listen to lazer 99.3 here in mass they play mad season and alice in chains all the time

  • dont say grunge is day it still lives through some bands ...ect. pearl jam or mudhoney...however people now days only know about nirvana...and its a shame

  • barett martin is a badass

  • fuckin amazing, what a trip out

  • skerit is kickin major ass on this jam.....

  • Ummmm In Canada, Or At Least Ottawa, Grunge Is Dying If Not Dead. But Yes, When Grunge Does Get Airplay Its Nirvana Or Pearl Jam

  • "Grunge is dead, but live in Us."

  • Awesome...Layne Staley+Mike Mcready=Greatness.

  • Don't forget that this song would not rock without the awesome bass and percussion work from John Baker Saunders, Barrett Martin and Skerik!

  • true, they are great too.

  • I bet he did the best shit there is

  • The Drummer is incredible!

  • alice in chains will always be laynes band as lynard skynerd will always be ronnies band

  • I agree but every band needs some time to do different musical projects to show the world that they have different taste

  • I think Layne was pretty clean to the run up of this show, he sounds better than the record.AWESOME

  • My friend was to sick to go this show~ So he gave me the ticket!! no shit.. Moore Theatre.

    good o'l days

  • why isnt there a live dvd of this and why is there still no alice in chains dvd same with soundgarden it seems pearl jam and nirvana have like a million each

  • There is an alice in chains dvd... it's called Music Bank-the videos. It has a lot of their videos and some candid stuff.

  • ya i no about musicbank i was reffering 2 a live dvd of alice in chains performing with layne not the new horrible guy thats taken laynes place

  • Oh ok. You're being kind by calling the new guy 'horrible'. He sounds like Kermit the Frog, and looks like Anderson Varejao. I'm not so sure anyone can replace Layne, but I do think that they could've looked a little harder.

  • there recording a new album with the new guy 2 i here i really hope jerry will come to his senses and get phil anselmo or richard pactrick 2 sing instead of the skinny lenny kravitz

  • isaw the alice in chains concert with velvet revolver and it must have been there best night cause "the new guy" was right on the money. and i would die for layne if it would bring him back
