Oops! posted before I was done... What I mean about performance is the way your loco climbs that grade at the end of this video... Outstanding! What am I doing wrong? I'm half temped to tear it completely down and tighten EVERYTHING with locktight to seal the leaks it CAME WITH out of the case!
I'm still not real happy with the performance but it is A LOT better than when I got it. I found loose fitting eccentric cranks and valve timing to be the culprits. Also it would flood itself with water sloshing in the boiler from acceration or starting up hill allowing water to get into the 'dry pipe' so I extended the dry pipe and made a higher steam dome which now sticks up through the cab roof but it helped the running considerably.
Mostly, valve timing is the key. A lot of tinkering.
How are you guys getting such GREAT performance from your Mikes? Mine can't even get out of it's own way... Even AFTER I reset the safety valve to 55 psi..Aaaaagh!

That is not a whistle. That is the pressure relief valve. (Pop off) that releases steam at 45# and above. But....with a little imagination......
