this is probably better than those expensive schools, and this type of schooling is actually more relevant because more people are recording at their houses.
Yeah, the Shure SM57 is essential! I have one, the metal casing is broken (fixed with duct tape, of course), it was thrown around, was thrown on the floor many times, survived many crazy stage situations and it's still working perfectly. One can't go wrong with a SM57.
You asked me a question about getting your first microphones for a home studio. There are a lot of cool mics but i relaly believe the first mic anyone should own is the shure sm57. The cost is not too high, the sound is really good to great and its a real pro mic that you will still be using in 20 years if you are still recording.
Thanks for the video fantastic stuff. I barley have a clue about recording and I'm trying to set something up at home what i want really is a couple of mics for guitar and vocals, can you please recoment what is the best for me to get baring in mind im 16 and havnt got to much money thanks alot :)
@KarlToth Hi Karl, I'm also a recording engineer. I can also help you out. But if I were you I would go with what Ronan said. Go ahead and get an SM57, it's the perfect mic. It's perfect for everyone and it's affordable. Good recording software like cubase, Logc Pro or my personal favorite Pro Tools are great DAWs to record with. But to start out you should get logic Pro (Macs), Cubase, or Nuendo. I would go on but take it from Ronan, he's got lots of experience.
