There is no such thing as "Latin American Spanish". Are you kidding me? Spanish varies incredibly within Spain. Now imagine from northern Mexico to the Patagonia.
@sixpointneuf When I say "Latin American Spanish". I mean slang. In america some words are different. Think of it as American English and England English. Then maybe you'll get what I mean.
@sixpointneuf I'm not trying to make it seem like a country. What I mean is the words that are used. Slang words. Some slang words that are used in England won't make sense to some people out in America and vice versa. Even though both countries speak English as a primary, the accents are different. Sometimes so different that you can't understand it. To a degree Spanish is the same way depending on where the person is from. It'll probably make a bit more sense if you read my other posts.
@sixpointneuf Not really. Far as to my knowledge and from personal experience Spanish is just different depending on where you are in the world. Some words are different, accents here and there, dialects. Things of that nature. Simply put Spanish is different in all parts of the world. That's why I say to think of it as English. It's spoken in many countries, but certain words, accents, dialects and slang words are much different. Depending on the country.
While in the Spanish dub, they have Buzz talk with a strong Andalusian accent (consistant with the flamenco dance, the moves and the kissing, which are stereotypes that even Spaniards have regarding Andalusians), I think part of the fun is lost in translation. I mean, it's likely that a toy can be reset to different languages, but to different accents? Never seen that.
@paquito382 It's definitely spanish, and not mexican. People of Spanish decent pronounce the 'c' and the 'z' as Americans pronounce 'th'. Mexicans don't do that. To us, it sounds like a lisp. Buzz does the lisp. Definitely not Mexican.
@paquito382 Tu eres tonto?? Acaso no ves que el acento de Buzz es español de ESPAÑA??? Y el baile es flamenco. CULTURA ESPAÑOLA. Como se te ocurre decir que es mexicano!!!
@paquito382 I meant in general. All Spanish people speak a certain type of Spanish. To some degree the culture is similar. Just like English speakers. All are different, but to some degree all are the same. Spanish Buzz is simply a mix of many different Spanish cultures. Also, no one said anything about Spanish people being short or this or that. Pixar isn't trying to offend anyone. They are just making a movie for all ages to enjoy. :)
@paquito382 It was revealed in several interviews that the animators, and director have also traveled to Spain and other Spanish speaking countries to do some research. It is also shown on the Blu Ray that they have used Spain as a type of canvas for Buzz and from there they added a Rico Suave like stereotype with a bit of a matador like personality for Spainsh Buzz. With the accent, language, personality, and body language.. Spanish Buzz has a tiny, tiny bit of everything. :)
@ToyStoryVids Spanish Buzz int his film is a Spaniard not South American or Mexican. His accent is Castellano (Spain Spanish), and his dance is Flamenco (a dance 100% made in Spain). Saying that he is a mix of everything is DEAD WRONG. The band that plays guitar and sings in spanish is the Gypsy Kings a band from Spain..... so, Buzz is impersonating a southern european.
@mahavishnuxc When I say he is a mix of everything I don't mean that he has a mix of everything I don't really mean that he's a mix of every Spanish person out there. What I mean is he has the accent and body language down to a T, yet he also has a bit of a Rico Suave/Don Juan in him too. He is a Spaniard, but he also has tiny itty bitty traces that can remind you of other famous characters from the past.
@ToyStoryVids "When I say he is a mix of everything I don't mean that he has a mix of everything" - ?
but you are right about the Don Juan part, the director was poking fun of the stereotypical "Southern European", how they are overly dramatic when they speak and are always obsessed with romance. Notice how even though their lives are in mortal danger he is still trying to seduce Jessie...which is awesome.
@paquito382 Also, one of the key animators for Spanish Buzz is from Spain and is shown putting alot of his personal background into it. Not only has he added his own flair, but alot of the other Spanish animators have done so as well.
@paquito382 Doesn't matter if it's Mexican, Spaniards, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Cubans or whatever else one thing holds true and that's it's Spanish roots. If you look at some of the behind the scenes footage on the Blu Ray, Pixar has shown alot of the research that they have done for Spanish Buzz.
Many people say that because here in Spain has not used the English language. Well, the music and dances that have been used in the film belong to the culture of Spain, therefore, no sense that Buzz speak English in the Spanish version ...
One of the only things I think they could have done better is play the orginal You've got a friend in me at the end of the movie also it wasn't included on the album :(
Well actually I am hispanic and the spanish they used in the movie was perfect for it, besides, if they had put a different kind of spanish accent it would have been worse
@TJS2400 Javier Fernandez Pena provides the voice for Spanish Buzz. According to Lee Unkrich (the director), on the Blu Ray and DVD commentary, he and the others who worked on the movie were just trying to find someone with a sexy Spanish voice and ended up hiring Javier. They later found out that he voices the Buzz Lightyear toys in Spain. :)
@Ximi90 lo que pasa es que Jose Luis Gil hace la voz en la pelicula. Javier Fernandez Peña hace la voz en los juguetes de Buzz Light Year en España. :)
@SonicMario96 Nope, although that would make sense... I don't know if it's the same in other dubs of the movie, but at least in the Spanish Castilian dub, Buzz got a neutral spanish voice as his default voice (just like the one he has got here), and as for the voice of his "Spanish Mode", he got a very strong andalusian accent (Andalusia is the south region of Spain). The spanish mode voice is provided by Diego "el Cigala", a well known spanish cantaor (Romani Flamenco singer).
@MsSonnyday Yes, it is the Spanish version of "You've Got A Friend In Me", this version doesn't play in the first movie, but the song in general is the Toy Story theme song. :)
@CanalDisney365 Pixar wasn't portraying just any Spanish person. They were portraying a deluded Buzz who thought he really was a Space Ranger, who speaks Spanish. Of course, not all Spanish speakers act like flamenco dancers nor do all English speakers act like Space Rangers.
@CanalDisney365 que tonto. No creo que alguien piense que los españoles son estupidos. Es obvio que es solo un juguete y nadie pensaria que los españoles son así. Es solo un personaje.
@MaddieFitzPage No, they don't. Depending on the Spanish country, a different kind of Spanish is used in the movie. To get a better understanding of it find marcosgll's comment on this video. He explains it well. :)
@ToyStoryVids he's speaking actual spanish SPANISH FROM SPAIN, AUTHENTIC SPANISH. the reason hes so poetic and dancing is to mimic that "european romance". hes dancing like a bullfighter.
i am spanish and in spanish version buzz talks in spanish but with "andaluz" accent. andalucia is a spanish comunity where people speak a hard spanish.
@MaddieFitzPage Here, In Spain use a kind of Spanish used with Andalusians. The dubbing actor in Spain for that part was a Gipsy. It should be pretty strange find a Flamenco dancer and a romantic latin lover speakin english, don't you think??
@MaddieFitzPage No, they change the accent and Buzz start to have an accent of Andalucia (a part of Spain where they dance like in the movie and where is typical music with spanish guitar) but in a funny way. You can write 'Toy Story 3 Buzz Andaluz to see it'.
@MaddieFitzPage No lol, they when its in spanish they put him with a different spanish accent.I saw this movie in english, but some friends saw it in spanish and told me that lol.
No. In the Latin American version, I think they do the Spain version, but if you look on the Spain Spanish version, I believe they have a Latin American dub.
In a deleted scene shown on the Blu Ray (Cine-Explorer), the toys seek shelter in a doll house. The truck begins to crush everything. The toys brace themselves as Buzz says "The universe is contracting!"
"We gotta fix him back" XD That's a Forrest Gump moment (Tom Hanks plays Woody in this movie and played Forrest Gump in the 90's movie of the same name).

Damn it, I regret not watching this at the movie theater. I decided to wait for on DVD (Blu-ray, actually) without know how good it was. I watched the first one in Spanish and pass on the second one. This movie is just the best one I've seen this year. It's amazing how much time has passed.
the worst thing is that non spanish people would think we're like that, and even the most typical spanish doesn't act like that xDDDD but I laughed a lot in the cinema, it's the best part of the film!! =D
I'm actually kind of tired of the stereotypes we andalusian people have to live with. We don't go around dancing, or telling jokes, or being this "macho" like everyone (even in our country) seems we do. We are like the living joke on Spain, and we just try to show that we're a region full of history (my city is >3000 years old) and full of hard-working people. I'm sick of carrying that stereotypical weight over my shoulders. And besides, story-wise Spanish Buzz was completely unnecessary...
@TaiyouHKabra I'm sorry I read what you said but didn't really understand... I was too distracted by your thick andalusian accent.... heh heh. Honestly though... lighten up. No one thinks andalusians are jokes... in fact, most people don't even know what an andalusian IS... let alone spell it.
what happens if we watch it in spanish?

123kaleidoscope 1 year ago
@123kaleidoscope All of his lines? Not sure if you want that or a specific line, but I can provide them all.
In order in which they were said in the movie:
Part 1
*When Buzz first wakes up in Spanish mode*
-"Star Log... I've awakened from hyper-sleep on a strange planet."
-"I'm surrounded by alien creatures of unknown intent."
-"Who goes there? Friend or foe?"
-"I must have crash-landed and had my memory erased."
-"Anyone seen my spaceship?"
-"My spaceship? You know where it is? Excellent!"
ToyStoryVids 1 year ago
@123kaleidoscope
Part 2
*When Buzz first meets Jessie while in his Spanish Mode*
-"My desert flower! I have never seen true beauty until this night!"
*After Buzz dances around Jessie*
-"Come with me, Miss."
-"I will show you the wonders of the galaxy and we shall vanquish all evil with our love."
*After Woody leads Jessie and the others away from the secluded area.*
-"The Cowboy!"
ToyStoryVids 1 year ago
@123kaleidoscope Part 3 *Buzz opens the chute.*
- "Buzz Lightyear to the rescue!"
-"It is open."
*After the toys slide down the chute.*
-"Where's my spaceship?"
*The toys run across the dumpster*
-"Cowboy, hurry!"
*In the garbage truck*
-"Miss, Miss, Where are you?! Miss!"
In a deleted scene shown on the Blu Ray (Cine-Explorer), the toys seek shelter in a doll house. The truck begins to crush everything. The toys brace themselves as Buzz says "The universe is contracting!"

TaiyouHKabra 1 year ago
@TaiyouHKabra I'm sorry I read what you said but didn't really understand... I was too distracted by your thick andalusian accent.... heh heh. Honestly though... lighten up. No one thinks andalusians are jokes... in fact, most people don't even know what an andalusian IS... let alone spell it.

Spanish Buzz - MAGNIFICO!
0:44 to 0:45: authentic torero pose
0:49 to 0:52: WIN!
And their dance: one of the greatest sequences in animated film history, along with many other scenes of this remarkable film and series!
