This song is about when Peter Gabriel and Mike Ruckerberg was in a school that was on Solsbury Hill and they heard a story about a boy that was depressed because his mother died and he thought his dad died in the Portuguese Japanese raid. And it was around the time of WW2, and the boy was about to kill himself because he was so depressed. Then he got a call to the office, when he got there, his father was there (He wasn't dead) and he said "Son, grab your things, I've come to take you home."
@mwakerff please dont be silly!!!The origional is excellent-and this version is excellent too...I have watched the dvd in 2D and 3D and have loved this tune from way back-OMFL!!!!! Fab innit!!!!!!!
OMG - I love PG and solsbury hill is one of my all time favourite songs but this is really really crap. Just listen to the original album...............
@mwakerff no man, its cause your thinking in a rock frame of mind... the melody in this really can stand alone without guitars and drums etc... its nice to hear gabriels songs without all that late 70's or even worse 80's production on top,,, have you heard his orchestral version of rhythm of the heat or whatever its called... depth and power doesn't need volume to have impact.
this song is amazing! i particularly love how the accompaniment is with orchestra instead of the usual drum kit, electric guitar etc.. new blood orchestra is amazing.. and so is peter! :D

@MrButtermybanana Is that the only story? The second verse seems to have another story parallel that's more personal and spiritual

Outstanding! No one can convey a feeling quite like the muse...and that's why we honor them with such reverence. Much respect for Peter Gabriel.

@xrcrazy1 In the words of Frank Zappa, "Maybe we'll all be gay some day." So shut the fuck up and enjoy the music regardless.
