I used to have a problem with the graphics back in the day... It was caused by the "Software mode" being enabled. You just need to use 3d accelaration in NFS (there should be an .exe in your NFS directory).

No dude, I have that game and it's Need For Speed 4 : High stakes. NFS 3 & NFS 4 have the same tracks and cars, they just improved the graphics a lot on the 4 + add cars & tracks i think.

You see, and this is one of the reasons why NFS4 fails on the PC. Go for PSX version, it's freaking awesome. However, NFS3 is really great on both PC and PS1.

What do I have to win to unlock NFS3 tracks?

You have to play the career till u get to a point where u race on these tracks, then they will be automaticaly unlocked for free racing... Or u can unlock them with a cheat, unfortunately on some versions of the game (such as mine) u will first have to download a little file and pass it into the game folder in order to make the cheats work... try searching on google... (nfs hs cheat patch...)

Wow - thans for the comments guys... This is really a great game. It's a pity that people who have never played this will probably be blind to how cool this game really is... I love to hear that even now with all the new racing games like NFS Carbon, Pro Street or Flatout people still remember the fun and playability of this game... Corvette rules! If anybody knew where to find that "all in one patch" that provides the nescesary updates for this so it could be run in WinXP - please, let me know.

Too true, too true. There's something called "NFS EP" which not only lets you run the game on XP but also adds NFS2(!) and one tracks and all addon cars EA released for NFS4. You can find it on team-ger(dot)org

I played this with the Batmobile download and went 320mph head on with the red Mcllaren in the Celtic Ruins. This game has the best tracks you can memorize and good music. I wish they would do the exact same game for Win 2000 and XP

There is a xp patch for this game, but its hard to find... I was searching google for about an hour before i found it on some kind of forum - many links were broken, i was lucky i found a working one... the patch also includes an update and a no-cd crack... Its a pity I dont have it anymore... U will have to search...

Calm down dude... sigh... I know it looks like HP but its not... If u played the high stakes career, u would notice, that u can unlock tracks from NFS III (like the one in the vid... and more - lost canyons, empire city, atlantica, country woods...). Thats probably why ure thinking this is NFS III... also, u could notice that u can see the drivers in the cars... this was not possible in NFS3, cos the cars had black windows...

I love that game. Too bad I have problems running it on XP. My favorite tracks - Empire city, Atlantica, Aquatica, Hometown, Country woods...lol I love them all! U should try to google "need for speed high stakes xp patch" and search and search and search... also u could try to check out some forums about this game... I am afraid thats all i can do for u...

I do have windows Xp maybe that could be the problem because on properties/compatibility it said run compatible for win95,win98/win Me,winNt4.0[service pack5],and win 2000. There was no win XP. Anyways thx for the help man.

yeah, well, this is pc version, the playstation 1 was a lot harder, there wasnt any special camaro, there were only 2 special cars: corvette and porsche

I have completed the whole career and i had all the gold medals and trophys (except for one, but i was too lazy to complete the race...) and this doesnt make me the best player of this game neither....

I used to love this game when along time ago, i used to play it all the time. My favorite mode was being the cop it was awesome. Maybe the graphics on the playstation version could have been better but the pc version i found out a way to download cars into the game so i have like a Mclaren police and an under cover bmw police and much more. so liked it better for the pc.

this is the PC version of NFS3 hot pursuit, with cars that have been downloaded from the net, hence clear windows. playstation version has no pursuit mode, and NFS4 is a totally different game

looks like PC version... ps versions are more springy when the car jumps while pc versions do the same old front right back left front left back right car movement.. As old and crappys the graphics and the game play is i like it better than the new ricer fake junk.. Tracks are much better too.. snow tracks, desert tracks, day tracks, night tracks, whatever not.. new ones.. eigher all dark and wet or light and dry.. no snow of any kind :(

I see u havent played nfs 4 - then u would know that it is the same as nfs:3 hot pursuit... the difference is that there are more tracks, more cars and a career mode... but u can still play hometown, redrock ridge and all the great things that were in need for speed 3

ah you see that's what I missed - NFS3 has black opaque windows, and High Stakes has clear windows with full interiors - it refuses to run on XP, and I always used to just play Celtic Ruins - hah!
