Sure Marlon moves like Michael on some moves, but so does the entire pop music industry. You'd be hard pressed to find a hot singer or group not doing some jacksonian moves. So Michaels family may as well take from this pool. Also, Marlon has a definate dancing style of his on here, he can really dance. He was trying to sing to high. I will say this though, after posting and listening(really listening to Marlons singing) to many comments about Marlon(good and bad), I believe that when Marlon came out, he actually should have come out not really as a solo artist but as a part of a group like Shalamar where his talent for Dancing and backing vocals for a lead singer would truly shine through.

@MJ4lyph i would say, i think it's because they've been dancing together for so long, almost all their lives, they did the routines themselves since their J5 days, that's why on their own, they would still have a shadow of their J5 togetherness. if you've watched their victory tours, it's Marlon and Michael who had almost the same steps, Mike would spin to his right and Marlon would spin to his left. i think they complemented each other.

@fc84g, You're both right and wrong. The Arsenio Hall Show did run from 1989 to 1994, but this wasn't the Arsenio Hall Show. This was "The Late Show" (and you see that shown quite a few times in the video) that Joan Rivers used to host. Arsenio began hosting it in 1987, prior to getting his own show in '89. ;-)
Poor Marlon. His Dad used to hit him to make him dance as he was always finding it difficult. He used to get "why can't you do it like Michael?". He's never blamed MJ though. He knows exactly who is to blame.

michael was never a fan of elvis. he said it in his book that he was before his time. quincy is a genius but he did say bille jean was too weak and that thriller was only sell about 2 mil. marlon done good job, i wish he got more exposure.

its not so much singing is bad but rather this song is so 80's. yes the dancing is good especially for him because that was an issue with J5 for him. But it isn't that bad. yeah voice is lacking a little but moves are very good. J5 did rub off on video presentation but not a start by far. Marlon is a good background singer /dancer. he did work hard for it as a kid. Voice is the weakest though. dancing is very good.

@TheHelao you are correct & MJ says it in his own book as well as it was shown on the reality show :)! Marlon came up with most of the group's signature moves plus MJ & Marlon were always the highlighted standouts in their routines..the only difference is that MJ was more of a NATURAL whereas Marlon had to work at it a little more which paid off as they got older ESPECIALLY when Jermaine left the group...Marlon nailed not only his regullar harmony parts but also Jermaines :)

@MJ4lyph i would say, i think it's because they've been dancing together for so long, almost all their lives, they did the routines themselves since their J5 days, that's why on their own, they would still have a shadow of their J5 togetherness. if you've watched their victory tours, it's Marlon and Michael who had almost the same steps, Mike would spin to his right and Marlon would spin to his left. i think they complemented each other.

@fc84g, You're both right and wrong. The Arsenio Hall Show did run from 1989 to 1994, but this wasn't the Arsenio Hall Show. This was "The Late Show" (and you see that shown quite a few times in the video) that Joan Rivers used to host. Arsenio began hosting it in 1987, prior to getting his own show in '89. ;-)

michael was never a fan of elvis. he said it in his book that he was before his time. quincy is a genius but he did say bille jean was too weak and that thriller was only sell about 2 mil. marlon done good job, i wish he got more exposure.

@lpc0615 he went #2 with Dont Go on the R&B charts....what happened was is that Marlon waited a little too late to come out with his....keep in mind that after MJ's 80'S takeover, the Jackson name became even more popular & they all did solo albums....MJ & Jermaine pick the smarter producer & writer choices when it came to their stuff....Jackie's solo work was real good too but it didn't resonate...it took Janet 2 failed albums to see she needed Jam & Lewis

true. None of them were able to really match Michael's talent and complete skill set, but I do think Marlon was the only one who could match him in stage presence and energy... Marlon is my favorite but i must admit he wasn't as great as Mike. But his energy, how happy we can tell performing made him, and when they were younger that HUGE smile he always had on his when they were performing, you can tell he really loved what he was doing. Besides, I thought he was the cutest :p

Then why were the Thriller demos similar to the final songs? I want you to explain that to me knowing full well you won't be able to. Michael's Thriller demos were almost equal to the final songs that ended up in the album and he made the demos ALONE! C'mon. Don't forget what Michael did in the Jacksons. And, mainly, don't forget that he made masterpieces like "Starnger in Moscow" alone!

Oh PLEASE ednoroirika.Michael was deemed a genius as a child. Michael became the huge mega star with his Motown25 performance. Quincy had nothing to do with those dance moves. It was after that show that michaelmania began WORLDWIDE. Quincy had little to do with Billie Jean, Beat IT, and WBSS. Have U heard the demos of those songs? Mike made Quincy, not the other way around. Michael is/was the magic. Didn't U see "This Is It?"

MJ could've produced his own album but I honestly felt it would not have had he impact..Quincy picked the right musicians & writers to make "Off The Wall", "Thriller" & "Bad" the gigantic musical statements they are...he made MJ's BASIC ideas come to life which is the producer's job

i liked this song back then, but it has aged. marlon really wasnt a lead singer even though both his songs did make the charts for a time. for those who say mike and janet are the only ones with the talent. well jermain was the original lead singer and sex symbol for the j5 and on his own had more than a few hit singles. no one , jackson or otherwise has beaten mikes record sales. thats the real phenomena of mike jackson and at the heart of a lot of his socalled "wacko" behaviors.

YES YES, thank you for saying that, i tell people all the time that elvis got some of his moves from jackie wilson, but he and jackie wilson were friends at the time, but yes michael and marlon both admired those men, so naturally they would try to do the same moves, and with michael and marlon, when they are dancing its all about the ryhthym and the music, its not about what was rehearsed, they just feel the music and go for it

genius? mike was no genius, extreme talent and hard working entertainer, yes i would agree. for every 1 michael jackson there are two million in the black community just like him or better that the world will never know of. ive been a fan since 1969 loved the man admired the man but not a worshiper. in his family it seemed as tho' he had all the talent but in fact he was the hardest worker. the j5 propelled him to stardom not mjj by his lonesome. the rest came from experience gamed from the j5 .

Well, have you seen Michael dancing, honey? Fred Astaire (I know full well you don't know who this man is) called Michael "the greatest dancer of the XX centhury.". Have you ever seen Michael dancing? Tell me someone who is as phenomenal as him! Tell me why do most peopple consider Michael to be the greatest entertainer ever? He did what only 1 individual in 6 billions would do, so the black community comparisons just show how desperate you are. Otherwise, we would have more than 1 MJ.

its not so much singing is bad but rather this song is so 80's. yes the dancing is good especially for him because that was an issue with J5 for him. But it isn't that bad. yeah voice is lacking a little but moves are very good. J5 did rub off on video presentation but not a start by far. Marlon is a good background singer /dancer. he did work hard for it as a kid. Voice is the weakest though. dancing is very good.
