  • It should be noted that long before Bill Cullen's "Child's Play" preceeded Bob Barker's "The Price is Right" on CBS daytime, Bill Cullen's "The Price is Right" preceeded Bob Barker's "Truth or Consequences" on NBC daytime.

  • Kudos to everyone who made a referrence to Bill Cullen being the host of the original "The Price is Right". I was going to do the same but you all get credit first! This instance would be repeated in a way many years later when Bob appeared on Drew Carey's "The Price is Right". Awesome to see legends on screen to say the least =)

  • @THIRT33THR33 Drew has made it no secret that he's always been a huge Bill Cullen fan. Note that his intro has reverted to "and here is your host..." as opposed to "here's the Star of...", the latter of which Bill never liked. He always felt that the contestants were the real stars, not the host, and Drew has brought back a number of old TPIR things, such as the special themed shows. Many things Drew does today were hallmarks of the old show, a great combination of new and old.

  • @Noveltooner Great insight, you make very good points. I know Drew has always worn glasses, but they are somewhat reminiscent of Bill Cullen's thick-rimmed glasses. Never picked up on the "here's the star of" vs. "here is your host" difference until you mentioned it.

  • I wonder if this is the first time that the two hosts of"The Price Is Right!"on camera?

  • In my opinion, Studio 33 should have been named after Bill Cullen. The April Fools episode of 2009 acknowledged Bill Cullen in the opening. But the reason Studio 33 should have been named the Bill Cullen studio because he was the first host of TPIR, hosted 23 game shows, never had a lawsuit, and was the most respected game show host ever. But at least the name Bill Cullen lives on.

  • the line belongs to george gray.....

  • The original version of The Price Is Right was first transmitted on the NBC, and later ABC, television networks in the United States from 1956 to 1965. Hosted by Bill Cullen

  • I'm guessing this is in October 1982.

  • This is so monumental

  • Funny how they brought Bill Cullen on in a "train". In actually, Cullen was disabled by childhood polio. This is why you never saw him walking and rarely standing. Many actors didn't know this. Mel Brooks once told of seeing Cullen walking with his unusual, splayed-legged gait, and thinking Cullen was making a joke, Brooks started mocking him. When Brooks learned it wasn't a joke, he was devastated with embarrassment. He said that Cullen was a prince about the whole affair.

  • This is funny because Bill Cullen was the original host of the TPIR in the 50s

  • R.I.P. Bill Cullen and Johnny Olson

  • I love the look on Johnny Olsen's face after he sees that Child's play clip!

  • Tom Kennedy didn't appear in 1984 to promote Body Language did he?

  • Oh, I see they only allowed -G-T hosts on TPIR or shows? Which is why, Bob Eubanks appeared and Bert Convy, appaeard, Tom Kennedy didn't,weird, I thought ALL CBS game show hosts appeared on the TPIR to promote their shows, but I thought they should've mentioned Bill's hosting TPIR, maybe viewers never knew Bill bhosted the original TPIR and only knew Bob Barker

  • @tpir1972 Yeah, I don't get why that wasn't brought up either. Could have mentioned it just in passing at least.

  • @tpir1972 There was some bad blood between Mark Goodson abd Bill Carruthers, and he was also still a bit raw over Bob Stewart's leaving Goodson-Todman to start his own company and taking more than half of "The Price is Right's" staff with him, especially director Mike Gargiulo. Paul Alter, of course, stayed with Goodson-Todman, shuttling back and forth between New York and L.A.until "What's My Line?" and "To Tell the Truth" were canceled.

  • @Noveltooner What happened between Mark Goodson and Bill Carruthers? I know with Bob Stewart, he pitched his idea for Pyramid to Mark Goodson and he said no, so Stewart went off on his own and did it himself. Hence, The $10,000 Pyramid was born.

  • I'm surprised Peter Tomarken nor Dick Clark appeared on TPIR to promote PYL or $25,000 Pyramid.

  • @tpir1972 That's because "Press Your Luck" was a Carruthers Company show and "The $25,000 Pyramid" was a Bob Stewart show (ironically, Stewart had created "The Price is Right" for Goodson-Todman). "Child's Play" was a fellow Goodson-Todman production. A lot of viewers (including me) who had viewed this show on its original airing thought it was rather snooty of Bob Barker to not even acknowledge Bill Cullen as the original host of "The Price is Right." It was a monster hit in his day.

  • @tpir1972 The $10,000 Pyramid, no less. The first Pyramid series premiered on March 26, 1973.
