I hate that people still say that autechre is "experimental". I mean, how can they be experimental after 24 years? maybe they were experimental once, but their style is solid now. And it doesn't even have a name... they control their own world. Go AE! amazing track btw

I find that it takes me years to fully 'get into' one of their albums. I only now fully apperciate Draft, I love it..hopefully this one will grow on me over time, although I do prefer oversteps at the moment

Is this album a good start to get into Autechres music world? I already bought their newer album "Oversteps", which is more ambient-like, but now I want to hear something more dynamic and fast.

I've been liking Venetian Snares, Richard Devine and Squarepusher a lot and discovered Autechre just a few months ago. What album would you recomment to start with?

This song is beyond belief! This youtube video does it no justice. I blast it in my car just smiling because I know I have something that a lot of other people have no clue about! Oh, and in my opinion-if you think you can label Autechre as this or that, then you can't hear this music.

You have to be very careful when talking about minimalism and music, because music itself is an abstraction, its not like painting where u have a subject sometimes , so actually even death metal could be minimal, what would be the difference...? that its not electronic! i dont think so

@peoplethought Dude, it's for a sure a play on minimal but with their unique take. Some say that they go into their own world and don't follow trends but I think that they comment on them. This tune, at least to me, is an example of that. It follows the structure of minimal but bends it way out of proportion into their take. They know electronic music amazingly well and have been inspired by so many styles. Anyway, BOOYAGH!

I really don'y enjoy autechres newer work =/ sadly.. but they have evolved beyond anyones imagination and that's a good thing, this really is at it's peak of contemporary electronic music

Like the last 3 (4?) autechre albums this pretty much leaves me cold. I think when AE departed from their work on Incunabula and Amber through Tri Repetae, LP5 etc. and on to Confield what they were doing on a technical/engineering/producti­on level was one point interesting, relevant and groundbreaking. Recent work comes across as the electronic music equivalent of Czerny's 101 piano exercises...only for machines. Which...you know...might be your cup of tea (fair enough) but sadly not mine.

Seems like they can do anything with their computers and gears and anybody will blindly say.... yeah it's cool..... cuz it was made by AUTECHRE...... for me doesnt seems like they put much effort now.... yet I still buy their albums..... just hoping to have some great titles on this ten track list.

@zonepou Actually, it has a complexity, they are very nerdy in this way, they use a lot of mathematical algorithms when making a track and they work to make each track have a particular feel to it. Less minimalistic than it sounds.

I am assuming this album is leftover scraps and reworked material from Oversteps - much like they did with the follow up EPs in the 90's. Either way, should be cool.

If you think it does not sound all that then you need a more accurate amplifier/speaker set. Youtube itself does not lend well to ultra pure playback. If you can reproduce sufficiently across the whole spectrum what their machines created you will be rewarded.
