  • to be truly home with Jesus...ah to be free of the sufferings of this world! The most we can do is live to share God's love with everyone who comes into contact with us and be faithful to Christ. This song is blessed!

  • So great, so powerful and soft! And with celtics sounds!

  • There is a hope that stands the test of time,

That lifts my eyes beyond the beckoning grave,

To see the matchless beauty of a day divine

    When I behold His face!

When sufferings cease and sorrows die,

    and every longing satisfied,

then joy unspeakable will flood my soul,

    For I am truly home.

  • There is a hope that lifts my weary head,

    A consolation strong against despair,

That when the world has plunged me in its deepest pit,

    I find the Savior there!

    Through present sufferings, future's fear,

He whispers, "Courage!" in my ear.

For I am safe in everlasting arms,

And they will lead me home.

  • THERE IS A HOPE by Stuart Townend and Mark Edwards Copyright (c) 2007 Thankyou Music. There is a hope that burns within my heart, That gives me strength for ev'ry passing day; a glimpse of glory now revealed in meager part, Yet drives all doubt away: I stand in Christ, with sins forgiv'n; and Christ in me, the hope of heav'n! My highest calling and my deepest joy, to make His will my home.

  • I love your writing! May God bless you Stuart!!

  • Christan's have the best way of worshiping! Beautiful.

  • I translate this song into chinese (cantonese).

  • Dear Darwin, God loves you so much and His plans for you are BEST. We love you too very much.

  • I cried when I first heard this song..I'm not sure why. My life is overwhelmed with stress. I'm 18 years old and I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Depression for almost 3 years. I felt like giving up but then I searched for 'there is hope', hoping it will relief me from this hopelessness I'm feeling right now. It helped and I cried..

Please pray for me those who care.. My name is Darwin.

  • @boondocks0789 We will pray for you Darwin.

I know exactly how you feel.

  • @boondocks0789 Praying for you friend! God loves you Darwin, and He has great plans for you! He promises that in Jeremiah 29:11! Find refuge in Him when life seems overwhelming! Christ says that He wants your burdens and worries, and anxieties! Never, never forget!

  • @boondocks0789 Beloved Darwin, there is hope, GREAT HOPE!! It is found in and through a loving, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Darwin, I lifted you up to The Father this morning and I know in my heart you felt that. Jesus is there, Sweetie...open up the door, let Him in and let Him restore your weary soul. His yoke is easy and His burden is light, I assure you! There is victory over anxiety, panic, depression, hopelessness...victory through This Man. His Name is Jesus Christ! <3

  • I have had the privilege of seeing Stuart very recently and he sang this song - along with others. His talent and creativity humbles me - a gift from God.

  • Thank you, Stuart Townend, for allowing God to flow through you again and again in such beautiful songs of praise....words of praise to our precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who alone is the hope for a lost and dying world.

  • The pipes are beautiful.

  • Stuart Townend is like a beautiful refreshing breath of air in the contemporary Christian music scene. Not only are his melodies hauntingly beautiful, his lyrics are meaningful and theologically deep and Christ-centered. This is a change from the usual charismatic pop star singing repetitious phrases which throw everyone into a trance. Thank you, Stuart.

  • Thank goodness we have such a glorious hope in Saviour who for some reason loves us so much that he's preparing a place for us to be in paradise!

    Praise Him!!!!

  • Beautiful! Thank you Stuart and band - you play with obvious passion for the music and JESUS CHRIST! Unusual instrument that: like a bagpipe without mouthpiece. Love the synth. Both are haunting! Goosebumps! Makes me cry with hope and comfort.

  • They're called uilean pipes - Irish bagpipes. Stuart's best, by a country mile.

  • This is a beautiful video - I keep playing it over and over! Stuart and the band members play with obvious passion for their instruments and for JESUS CHRIST!! Unusual instrument that looks a bit like a bag-pipe without the mouthpiece. Haunting! Goosebumps! The words make me cry (with hope and comfort) Thank you Stuart + guys!

  • There's some pharisees on this comment list, y'all.

  • No, you're misunderstanding what they are saying.

They are not pharisees who presses for complete 'compliance' to 'scripture'. Songs should be theologically correct because if the doctrine is incorrect, they'll really twist the actual messages which are supposed to be sent from the bible itself; songs can really hit the souls and minds and so a composer must bear this in mind.

Worse: non-christians who might chance upon these songs might get the twisted version of biblical text. That is bad.

  • So what I'm saying is I understand the meanings of their comments. It's not a pharisee doctrinal witch-hunt, but the practice of identifying who is adding and subtracting from the Word of God (Revelation 22:20, paraphrased).

  • @deterdettol - what is your issue with the theology of the words of this song?

In my opinion, the music is beautiful, the arrangement is very well done, and the words are inspiring, drawing our attention to the believers hope of salvation in Christ.

@TheDIngodi - the instrument played at the end of the song is a set of Uilleann pipes (pronounced "ill-an" - the traditional Irish version of the bagpipes). They really are a beautiful instrument.

  • @humblebum75 I have absolutely no issue with the theology of the song.

I am just explaining to ComeAsYouRvideo because he made an earlier comment calling some here "pharisees" becuase of comments made by other especially by SeekHisKingdom. I was explaining that SeekHisKingdom was right in the aspect that the theology of a song has to be correct and that everyone should know the importance of that.

  • @deterdettol I think you have jumped to conclusions about ComeAsYouRvideo's comment about "pharisees". (Which is easy to do in a comment space like this).

I doubt that he was complaining about people who were commending the theology of Stuart Townend's songwriting. It's more likely he was addressing the earlier discussion that focused on the hat Stuart is wearing in this video (whilst ignoring the depth and strength of the song he is singing).

  • Okay, but nevertheless the comment still serves to explaining the importance of whatever we've been discussing about. Anyway, sorry for the misunderstanding.

  • Also carrillomark1 made a comment. His comment is pretty much correct and applicable, but my earlier comment was also to explain to him that he should also not lose sight of the importance of ensuring theological accuracy in songs.

  • Not only is this fine musically, but it is fine theologically. we should never lose sight of our hope in Jesus Christ. We are saved by God, not some theory or program. The joy is that he is there for us now and is graciously preparing a place for us when we die and are with him forever. SDG

  • Theology is more important than music in Christian songs. Christians seem to have lost that notion. Well said.

  • The music of this video is truly remarkable!

    There is hope!

  • Thank you for such a powerful hymn!!

  • Thank you for the hymn.

  • One of my favourite songs.

One day i shall be with my precious Saviour Jesus , i know.

Look to Jesus. He is The only Saviour.

  • Just when I thought nothing could move me more than "My God", I experience this. What a beautifully written, encouraging song...

  • One of my favourite ever Christian songs; just wonderful...

  • 1 Cor 7 about marriage, only for then?etc

That old one of culture is a dodgy ground to tread. As soon as Christians start blotting out the parts of the bible that they don't like in the name of culture & that was then well it's not good nor wise.

2 Tim 3:16 - ALL scripture is inspired by God & profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.

Hey listen, we're on the same side dont get me wrong, & the above wont save you but it's pleasing to the Almighty.

  • Hi UKKENYA,

I don't mean the following questions in an argumentative manner. They are genuine questions.

Do you also believe that women must wear head coverings in church today? Must men not have long hair? If so, how long is too long?

    Grace and peace,

    dan

  • Culture must be taken into consideration, as well as context and language (Greek and Hebrew) Jesus refused the culture of His day by speaking to the woman at the well from Samaria, exhorting the woman with the issue of blood (she shouldn't have been out in public) and He didn't allow the religious men to stone the adulteress. Nature doesn't teach men that long hair is a shame for them. Men's hair grows as long as a woman's unless cut. It is clear that God looks on the heart; hat on or off.

  • The bible is clear not to wear hats when praying, not a major teaching but still Gods request.

and as a Worship leader , heshould know better and set the example - hats in Church, all in the name of fashion it seems

1Co 11:4 Every man praying or prophesying with his head covered dishonors his Head.

1Co 11:7 For a man indeed ought not to have his head covered, because he is the image and glory of God. But the woman is the glory of the man.

  • Hahaha interesting how you left out verses 5 & 6 "5And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is just as though her head were shaved. 6If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head."

Are you suggesting that we follow these commands as well??

  • it's not such a funny point (ha ha) but the covering in context of covering is not hair it is is her husband. Read the verse before : 1Co 11:3+4 also v10.

And yes, i missed out verse 5+6 cause the guys on stag are men not women but back to your point, if we really want to follow the letter it is scriptual for a womon to cover her head but not essential. It's something that the bible says is a sign for the angles ands and the lady who covers her head - this time with a hat will be blessed.

  • It must be remembered that such rulings in the bible were for of the culture, and time in which they were written. We are not supposed to eat shellfish and stone adulterers. This does not apply to us today. Also see next comment.

  • beautifull

  • There is a hope that burns within my heart,

    That gives me strength for every passing day;

A glimpse of glory now revealed in meagre part,

    Yet drives all doubt away:

    I stand in Christ, with sins forgiven;

And Christ in me, the hope of heaven!

My highest calling and my deepest joy,

To make His will my home.

  • Thank you, Lindielin, for posting the lyrics! God bless!

  • There is a hope that lifts my weary head,

    A consolation strong against despair,

That when the world has plunged me in its deepest pit,

    I find the Saviour there!

    Through present sufferings, future's fear,

He whispers 'courage' in my ear.

  • Does anyone have the lyrics for this?

  • it was my first time back in church on sunday after many weeks housebound with deep depression. i couldn't listen to music at all in those awful weeks. but on sunday they sang this wonderful song. hope that lifts my head and my heart. i'm probably going to lose my job as i can't manage it any more, i am disappointed and frustrated by my long-term ilness, but there is a hope!

  • How lovely to see comments with such appreciation and respect for others and praise and love for God .... Let us remember that Jesus in us is the only thing distinguishing us from the world and go on to praise Him even when we can't be listening to and encouraged by such wonderful music. This is what music was created to do, and this is what we were created to do!

  • Truly the most moving song I have ever heard-the lyrics are the most profound and the melody simply beautiful I find myself lifted up every time I hear it. What hope we have indeed in Christ

  • I flooded with tears in church weeks ago while we were singing this song. Felt like He was telling me that He was with me all the time. Amazing piece of work!! Praise be to God!!

  • I just bought this song from iTunes. Great song. Others I like are 'How deep the Fathers Love' and of course 'In Christ Alone'

    Grace, mercy and peace.

  • With wet eyes I breathed out "Praise God" at the end of the video. I bless God for the hope we indeed have in Jesus. Thanks for posting the video. It will bless many a heart.

    Thanks

    Chris

  • Last night at church, our worship group played this song, just before the preaching, and for a few seconds, I stood there as if in a trance, barely able to move, or for that matter see for tears. Never having heard it before, I was just numb, stunned; it touched me that much. What an unutterably lovely song this is. Some of the greatest music being written today is Christian music, that's what I think.

  • Have just seen Stuart at the Keswick Convention. What can I say - fantastic, fantastic music and words. I felt God with us whenever he sang. What a talent. God bless.

  • I have only just returned from a concert by Stuart Townend. He sang this song, which was new to me - but I hope to hear it again and again. It is beautiful.

  • another divine piece from Stuart Townend. so so beautiful.

  • Once again, Stuart Townend allowed God to work through him and write yet another song that bridges the gap between Traditional and Contemporary Churches.

Praise God that there is a hope in this dark world, which is our precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
