  • strewth, i didn't realise that john butler was a timetraveller until now..

I wonder if bruce has a similar commitment to pale green/democratic politics...

this is surely rock n roll people!! If its good enough for the White House then its good enough for me...

  • Have mercy, the best version of this I have ever heard...

  • reaching back and loving it

  • Bruce tearing it up on the telecaster!

  • holy shit!

  • The guitar sound from his Hammersmith concert is one of my favorite tele sound ever. Too bad no one could ever figure the setup he was using at that time because Bruce kept changing it frequently. I'd kill to know what pickups he was using at the time.

  • @maburu2 a 59 bassman reissue with a roadworn or 52 tele reissue would probably get you most of the way there.

  • He didn't take the UK by storm, sadly! The reviews and responses for the two '75 gigs were distinctly lukewarm. I think most people were expecting a more folky Dylanesque show, where, as this proves, Bruce has a lot more R 'n' B in his soul, musically and presentationally, which kinda threw people. It wasn't really until about 1980 that the UK got him.

  • I was there mate and, believe me, SOME of us got him! The first night was all press, the second for fans and the response was certainly not "lukewarm".

Sadly because of all the legal wrangles he didn't return until '80 . . . but at least we saw Southside Johnny.

Great that all this is now out there, but what happened to Pretty Flamingo??

  • 26 years old and rockin his ass off. Europe never saw anything like this before Bruce's arrival. He took the UK by storm.

  • when it comes to sing one's heart out there's no one like him

  • Great, this is waht the call the Detroit medley. I've seen Bruce playing exactly this medley in Munich this summer ! GREAT, thanks !

  • dw are the great band !!!!!! tnx!!!!!!

  • R&B = rhythm & blues, y'all.

    R&R = rest & relaxation

Today, however, "R&B" is more like "rap & BULLshit."

The Boss is boss! But, man, nobody does this like Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.

  • Yeah baby, this is why they call him the Boss!

  • just great

  • GIT UP NOOOOW!!!!!

  • I really want to take a clip of that, turn it into a ringtone, and make it my alarm in the morning. If the Boss told me to get up, I would.

  • was this vid clipped from the 'no-nukes' footage?

  • No, it's from his concert at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1975. No Nukes was in 1979, and has the best version of The River.

  • johnnydontcry57: I agree, thats the best version of The River. September 21st '79 No Nukes was also the very first time he played it live. I had the good fortune of being there. Great memories.

  • im not trying to be an asshole or ne thing, but i just listened to that rendition of the river from the 1979 no nukes concert, and i gotta say, its the 2nd best version of the song ive ever head. i just cannot get past how good the one off his live 75-85 box set is. that song is off the charts, gives me goosebumps everytime. and the whole time i listened to the no nukes, i said this is good, but i kept comparing it to the box set version, and its just not all there like it is on the box set

  • Is that the one with the whole extended intro about his father? You may be right, that version is amazing. I'd say that they tie. The No Nukes one is most powerful in video when you can see that he's almost crying.

  • oipbhakeld......I know you're a huge Bruce nut, as I am. We've read each other posts. Did you know that the River from the No Nukes Sept 21 1979 was the very first time Bruce played it in public. I'm sure you do. I was there. Fresh out of High School in South Jersey. My buddy scored 4 tix, and we all made the trip up the Turnpike. I'll never forget it. After he finished playing the River, I knew it was going to be a hit. I love both versions you mentioned, as well as the album. ....take care man

  • i was aware of that fact! its nice to see someone who appreciates how good this old stuff really is. idk if you know, but check out dr. zoom and the sonic boom- will you still love me tomorrow. i hope for your sake youve never heard that song by bruce so you can discover it. thats the best part of bruce, discovering new things that he did years ago for the first time. good luck and thanks for writing!

  • Dr. Zoom! Awesome stuff!! Jambalaya might be my favorite from those days although the jamming on Will You... is extraordinary. Do people even know that this man is a wondrous guitarist, as well as singer and songwriter?!

  • yes i knew he was a wonderous guitarist, ive seem prove it all night from his 78 shows especially the one from largo or landover or w/e that was. not half bad at piano either, but he should leave that to roy benton. thanks for the comment.

  • no nukes is the best version of this one

  • i love the boss' guitar sound, what is it for a pickup? xD lol, gotta know :P

  • It's a guitar he picked up in a small shop somewhere, it's a Fender telecaster or stratocaster body and pickups, with an esquire neck.

  • He pays a guy in NJ who has another job as an engineer(?). It's on "theTube".

  • Phil Petillo of Petillo Guitars Belmar NJ

stainless steel jumbo frets; custom wound pickups + a pre-amp tucked inside the body. Boss' pedal has three settings: loud, louder and EXTREMELY Effin' LOUD

  • tele

  • Mitch Ryder sings this like no one can

  • SEARCH OUT, mitch rider and the detroit wheels... truely... a great version of this song

  • this medley is on the No Nukes album 1979...we still play it heaps...coz it's awesome!! Angie Perth, west Australia

  • BAM! The future of rock'n'roll...

  • The 'Detroit Medley' a early-show must, is an amalgam of, usually, Little Richard's "Good Golly Miss Molly", and "C.C. Rider", "Devil With a Blue Dress", and "Jenny, Take a Ride". The last three mentioned were made famous by Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, though I do not know if Ryder composed all three.

  • Jeez I didnt even know the boss had so many genres, folk, rock, soul, blues, r&b and occasional flatout jams.

  • what song is the first song they play? I love it :-). he truely is the BOSS!!!

  • Devil With A Blue Dress-Mitch Ryder?

  • I believe it is :-). Thanks :-)

  • There should be a 6-star rating just for this video.

  • buffalo march 7 yes

  • This is why I own a computer. I love "You Tube" and I love this music!!!!!

Thanks glammer for all these great Springsteen songs.

  • 62TBirdMan:Yes I love the old videos.Glad people share. Even better is watching the whole concert in the lazy boy chair! :)I got the 30th Anniv. Born to Run set with Hammersmith Odeon 75 Concert DVD and other stuff. Great investment. Saw Bruce 5 times in '74 and by '75, it was onward and upward for Him! I am hooked on The Rising concert from Barcelona now. I got everything I could on DVD and hopefully my speakers,TV,DVD player will hold up and when U2 DVD's get here, I can start all over again.

  • The only video of this song on all of You Tube. Thank you, thank you. This brings back so many memories of the 30 times I had the honor of hearing Bruce play this in concert. Bruuuuuuuce!!!

  • Great versio,n perfect in every ascpect, please play this bastard at Ullevi

  • Let's hear it for Mitch.

  • the boy can jam

  • i actually just came everywhere

  • it can't cet better than this.

  • this video rocks
