Great demo and thanks much! About what percentage of sodium silicate do you use with the dark slip? Would this work as well mixed with a red iron oxide underglaze?
I noticed you collard this piece on the first 2 lifts vs how you typically lift with your two hands, is this achieving something different. This is a real tough one with 6lbs of clay , haha many many twisted pots- Thank you
Thank you so much for these wonderful videos! I enjoy watching them so much. Maybe in a future video, could you put the camera at a higher angle when you are opening up, so we can see inside the pot & how your fingers are opening?
Are you using a white stoneware clay body or is this a porcelain body? if so is it translucent? do you mix your own clay bodies, or is this one i can purchase?

I knew I heard the wheel speed up on those last pulls, does this help avoid torquing? Did you trim the Ikebana on a hump? I was too chicken to flip mine so I just trimmed it on the bat
I thank you again for your efforts to make so many wonderful instruction videos. You have been a big factor in improving my skills. I watch the videos again and again.
Love your work. One technical question: when you use your right-hand thumb to pull the walls up, are your other fingers on that hand guiding the clay as well? Your videos are great -- just wish you would include the amount of clay (poundage) you are working with. Watching this is teaching me much -- especially patience!! Thanks!
@mudpuddle910 The answer is yes. Please watch my video post # 45. Throwing / Pulling / Lifting Cylinder step by step with Hsin-Chuen Lin. I might have answers for most of your questions if you have watched all of my 52 video clips.
Please type keyword "mypots.net" or "hsinchuen" to search the videos. They should be easy to identify because I have numbered all the videos.
@mudpuddle910 Sorry, I forgot to answer your other question. The clay I used in this video is about 6 pounds and the final height is about 21 inches. I seldom weight my clay because softer or stiffer clay will have different results. Most of time when I am throwing I just push to the limit of clay. The clay will tell you what to do next.
On that very first pull you made, why did you only pull up the top part of the clay instead of starting at the bottom? Thanks

How do you take that off the wheel if it's so tall? Doesn't it wanna fall over?

I would love to see how you trim such a tall vase like this. You must have such a huge chuck for it..

@tatteredgrey I mix Coleman and Glacia porcelain (from local) about 2:1 ratio. It is translucent.
