  • lol the arist is Musume XD not the song

  • Why dose this song remind me of "Venus" by Bananarama ?

  • @greything2010 probably because it uses the same bass line and features the opening guitar part heavily throughout. also the video is somewhat similar, featuring the band members in black and white clothing against a red backdrop with lots of dancing and extreme closeups.

  • @uhhsam I know that... I was just being sarcastic... OVER SIX MONTHS AGO !!!

  • 1) Learn this dance

    2) get damn good at it

    3) learn all the lyrics

    4) play song at wedding

    5) be the only one who has even heard of it and look totally AWSOME!

  • This music video took a popular group and made them superstars. The unique choreagraphy, the back up vocals, the disco beat, and a 13 year lead singer who looked about 28 years old. "Japan's future will be the envy of the world"- this was the clincher as far as the audience was concerned.

  • I liked Buono so I investigated about the hello project, now I love c-ute and Berryz, a week ago I heard joshi kashimashi monogatari, WISH, koko ni iruze and I liked them, then I heard Mr Moonlight and Wow! I felt in love with ♥hitomi♥ and I know that this was their most famous song and.... i like it, but for some reason I don't find it as good as Mr. moonlight or the other songs I mentioned

  • HeavenlyKaori014-Morning Musume has a lot of great songs, both before and after Love Machine. But at the time of its release- it was a huge breakthrough and really appealed to the Japanese feelings during that time period. Certainly Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari and WISH really take advantage of the "musical troupe" style of MM, and Mr. Moonlight was incredible!

  • ^^ uhum I agree with you

  • @jokyaku: That's impossible, Yuko was the leader and at the time this single came out (1999) she was 26! No one was near 13 in that Generation. I suppose you mean Aibon, but she joined later in Gen4 and was 12 of age then. Youngest of the 1st Gen was Asuka but she never was leader, maybe you mean Kaorin, but she was 18 at that time.

  • @LabiLady In my comments below, I was referring to Maki Goto, who looked much older than 13 years old, and who was one of the lead singers on Love Machine. Love Machine was released on September 9, 1999, and Maki did not turn 14 until her birthday on September 23 of that year. The hosts of Utaban used to tease the older girls that Maki was needed to save the group, as "Love Machine" turned around the fortunes of the group. Her first solo line is at 1:32 in this tape. Maki was 3rd generation.

  • @jokyaku: Then I'm sorry for this misunderstanding. I thought you were talking about the leader of MM. Next time I'm gonna read more carefully. But yeah, you're right, she really looked older than 13. ^-^

  • @LabiLady Yes, I just meant she got a solo line in the song. For sure Aibon, Nono, and Gaki all looked 11 or 12 years old when they joined, but Maki was grown up at 13. She just released a couple of new songs if you search by 後藤真希 / 宝石

which is Goto Maki/ Houseki, you might watch the video. Houseki means precious gem. It is a bit of a sad song, but very beautiful.

  • oh whoaaaa this is their REALLY old stuff lol like 1st gen Morning Musume lolol

  • eN UNOS CUANTOS DIAS ESTA CANCION CUMPLIRA SUS 10 AÑOS !!! Momusu ruleaaaa !!

  • Maybe it's just me, but I don't think the lady in the pink slacks at the beginning looks like she belongs in the video. She isn't dressed like the other artists . . . too casual. It's like the choreographer stepped in to show them how to do it, and accidentally got included in the video. ;)

  • I think the Korean girl group After School covered this

    I like both versions

  • i just have to say this

the music is pretty good...but the damn choreography is pretty bad

  • But actually this song became a crazy hit with the choreography in japan. Seriously that is one of the most remembered choreography (especially the moves of "wow wow wow wow" and "yay yay yay yay") in J-POP history XP At that time, everyone did those moves in karaoke!

  • beautefull princes

  • wow 1st batch..

  • man, sounds like something that would go on beatmania or DDR. haha.

    thanks for uploading

  • No....This song is called by Love machine

  • "This song is called morning musume, it is a good song, I love all their music:). " LULWUT?

  • 2:59 never thought I'd see a giant yaguchi X3

hehe.. even back then, they made PVs that makes no absolute sense to me yet i enjoy it (^~^)>

  • "Hmmm this single was popular?"

    Estimated sales:

    Mikan: ~38,000

    Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari: ~90,000

Go Girl Koi no Victory: ~145,000

    (total: ~270,000+)

    Love Machine: ~1.6 friggin MILLION.

    You do the math.

  • Yeah, but now, people buy albums online, which are not clounted in the total of albums sold.

But, yeah, this song is Morning Musume's claim to fame. LUV THE CHORUS!!

  • Hmmm this single was popular?

I prefer Mikan, Jyosei Kashimashi Monogatari or Koi no Victory ;p They are much funnier.

Where is Takahashi Ai? Can you show me? Cuz I can't find her here...

  • This was two years before Ai Takahashi joined.

And this single was popular for many reasons. One was the debut of Maki Goto; people were fascinated that she looked so mature at only 13 years old.

Another reason was the pro-Japan message in the lyrics, which resonated with many people after the "lost decade" of the 1990s.

  • wat do u mean by 'lost decade'?

  • Severe recession. Google it.

  • *gasps*

    fine then. i will!

    hmph!

  • What? It's too complicated to explain in a 500-character YouTube comment. They're writing entire textbooks about it.

  • its tha way u said it.

sorry, but wen u reply 2 my comments, tha way u say things sometimes, it sounds mean.

evr heard tha quote 'its not wat u say, its how u say it' ?

that may not hav made any sense, but too bad. i stated my point didnt i?

  • so don b surprised if i take ur responses tha wrong way...

  • You can give me lessons about how to write when you stop using chatspeak. You don't even want to know what that says to me about you.

    How's that for "mean"?

  • y do u keep talkin about this 'chatspeak'?

    wat tha crap is it?

and no. that wasnt as mean, cuz i had NO IDEA WAT U WERE TALKIN ABOUT.

  • "y do u keep talkin about this 'chatspeak'?"

There's really no way I can answer that. The irony of it is staggering.

  • im obviously asking u wat chatspeak is.

in simpler terms: wat is it?

  • This is making my brain hurt... *wince*

If you could google "lost decade", then you can google "chatspeak". I could tell you myself, but I want you to get it from another source so that you understand it's not just a pet peeve of mine.

    I particularly recommend Urban Dictionary.

  • ok...

but anyway, is it wen ppl write in text message language lik this?

if so, then i jus figured it out.

    thanx anyway.

  • Oi. I hate chatspeak. People need to learn to read and write like normal human beings...

  • the old members were so much funnier. really really miss them. Morning musume isn't as funny as it used to be(or perhaps I haven't seen any recent funny vids)

  • you should watch alo-hello 2, it's hilarious

  • I think ur rite.. although im fan of sayumi michishige.. but i much like old era members of momusu like yuuko, kei, lida, natsumi and maki im enjoying watch their vids and talk show like utaban n etc coz after 2007 they little bit slow and not much impact on japs msic indstry...

    Don' you think?

  • Morning Musume was hugely popular from 1999 through 2002 -- the so-called "Golden Era" of the group. They were easily on the same level as other top stars during that time.

Their popularity has diminished since then, sure, but to call them "underground" is unfair. They can still fill a 12,000-seat arena at least a couple times a year.

  • i think the new era of morning musume is on the rise though dont you think?

  • On the rise? No. It seems like that because so many overseas fans are just now discovering them, but overseas fans cannot sustain them.

They're in a strange time right now and anything could happen. (I have a whole list of things, but I can't cram them all into a 500-character YouTube comment.) I honestly don't know what to think. Ask me again after the Elder Club graduation in March.

  • Well i would only say that because after singles like Resonant Blue they have been gaining some popularity. I don't know anyone in America that listens to them to be honest and i saw the song resonant blue on a Japanese list for top songs. (It was probably itunes which i know is not too credible). Its just seems that in recent times their name is getting out there a bit.

  • Each new single still charts in the top ten the week of its release, but it drops off quickly and the overall trend is still downward. And while they were the top idol group for years, now they're getting beat by other groups like AKB48 and Perfume on a regular basis. Even Berryz and C-ute are challenging them in the charts. They're simply not the juggernaut they used to be.

  • Yea i can see that. But hey its still pretty amazing that they can be around for that long and still make the top 10 each time.

  • personally i find its because their old members are more lovable..

    just my input on it.

  • For me, i think last single make big impact for momusu is kanashimi twilight sold over milion copies rite ^_^..

That only single in 2007 have same sale like "love machine"

  • I'm curious where you got that number for "Kanashimi Twilight". It sold only about 60,000 copies, according to the Oricon singles chart. MM hasn't had a single break 100,000 -- much less 1 million -- since 2004.

  • With the success of Kanashimi Twilight, on May 1, 2007, Morning Musume became the Best Single Selling Female Group in Japan with 11,085,000 copies sold—their fifth Oricon record. The achievement surpasses the previous record set by Pink Lady of 11,037,000 copies sold.[2..

That i copied from wikipedia... My only source... if im wrong, they wrong too..

But if u have any info.. please share..

  • That's total sales over the entire history of the group.

  • Owh, i guess im wrong... Silly me... so what the best single sale momusu did after love machine?

  • The next best single was the one after "Love Machine" -- "Koi no Dance Site".

It's been a steady, gradual decline since then. Almost every single released in the last four years has sold only 40,000 to 50,000 copies. "Kanashimi Twilight" was a high-point because it was Yossie's last single with MM.

Some of the decline is due to the collapse of the entire CD industry, but it can't be denied that MM itself is much less popular now than it was during the Golden Era.

  • she is more kawaii now^^ but yeah i agree she looks WAY different :P

  • I never noticed Goto had earrings...

  • 最後まで生き残ったのがカントリー娘の里田というオチ

  • SHUTU THOOSE ARE JAPANS TOP IDOLS!

  • They aren't there top idols... they aren't actually that imensely popular there...

  • DUDE someone japanese told me they are

  • Oh oh! I do beg your pardon! I never knew it was a Japanese person that told you! Japanese people are never wrong. Japanese people are god. [/sarcasm]

  • You should shutup already because a japanese guy knows better about japans pop culture and their idols better than you do ..-__- btw i check for information before typing wrong stuff...

  • there are...well were top idols in japan so HOTORIHONZO was right ^^"

(not starting a fight just informing)

  • In the 90's BoA was the top idol in japan, then (and still) Ayumi Hamasaki. Musume was popular, but they never really became top idols. They had a more underground fan base.

  • oooh :P

cause what i read is that momosu held the most records of songs on the oricon charts or something?

  • Not sure where you read that, but it's not true.

  • wikipedia, oh :o

  • they did.

  • opps, i meant that they do hold that record.

  • hi misssssyyyyyy!!! :D :D

  • hi!!!! :D

  • how are you :D :D (trying tio get away the weird comments on the page)

  • haha, that's pretty mean :P but the

"ugly ones" (lol) are pretty now :D

  • かわいい。。。。

  • Its funny how mature MM used to be... Now most of them are under 20

  • All of them apart from Yuko and Aya are under 20 in this ^^

Though I do agree with you. I still love current MM though :D

  • The average age of the group is higher now than it was then. It's all about the image.

  • sa va elle est pas mal celle la

  • wow....1999....!! XD

  • 1,600,000~ sold

  • nakazawa yuko

    at 3:04

  • who was the leader in this ??

  • Nakazawa Yuko

  • I love this song!!!!!!

  • wow...never watch this video when you're so tired your eyes are watering...you can't focus on a damn thing....I think I better get off...and watch it again in the morning...lol..

  • that dude was standing looking at the bilboard for the longest time. He ignored the girl trying to talk to him hehe.

  • I reeeeally like this song, and the video is cool too!! Go MoMusu!! <3333 :D

  • this is the best seller in MM history....

  • Why nobody likes this video D: ? I really like it, I mean... about 10 different outfits + pink background + nice song + Kaorin as a wife + best sold MM single ever = EPIC WIN

  • Which one is Maki Goto?

  • She one at the beginning who goes "uh-huh". xD And who sings the first solo part. Really cute girl with the shoulder length light brown hair.

  • Thanks! ^^ She looks a lot older than 13 I think.

  • That's the power of Gocchin. If you want to see her like a real 13 year-old, try this...

    watch?v=aUygpITUBkc

  • Uhm, this song is not "called" morning musume (description). Morning Musume is the group, Love Machine is the SONG. xD

  • wow.. MM looks so different back then.

like they all look like adults, and new gen. looks like an all teen pop band.

11 years, and the music is still good.

  • Even then, only Yuko and Ayappe were over 20, and the average age of the group was about the same as it is today. So it's all about the image — lipstick instead of lipgloss.

  • oops!

    1,646,630

    55,949*

  • Almost no one in Japan sells a million copies any more. These days, a MAJOR, "top ten" hit for the entire year only needs to break about 300K, and the weekly hits routinely sell less than 100K. The CD industry has collapsed around the world.

So yeah, MM have fallen a long way from where they were in 1999, but they're still quite comfortable (thanks to concerts and merchandise), they've survived a lot longer than most acts, and they have a newfound international fandom.

  • it's all because of downloading songs way back in 2000

  • this sold almost 1,5 million copies. Resonant blue 40.000 wow thats called downhill!

  • OMG I swear I know this song but have never heard it before!!! It really touched me somehow...XD Momosu Rocks FOREVER ^_^

  • lmao yuko is well sexing it up haha, shes so like ahhhhhhhh haha!

  • May I ask, which one is Maki Goto? O_o

Since all the voices are alike I couldn't find a different one....

  • She's also the one that says 'Let´s go' In the begnining

  • She says "DISCO!"

  • Hello captain obvious xD

  • i love morning musume

  • Kaorin is my favorite!! Next are Mari and Nakazawa!!

  • This song is the best selling morning musume single :) awesome

  • OMG i remember in third grade it was all the rage! my friends were crazy over it! i haven't seen this in 4 years...

  • It's funny song.

  • shut up, if you hate it dont watch and dont comment. People like this music! It dosnt need to be ruined with your all-american style! so stfu!

  • even though I did get a little upset when you said "American" you are kind of right... besides alot of american singers do kind of dress like sluts ones you think about it...

  • First of all, this is what, 1999? Their costumes don't suck because they're not sexual whores that only get attention for their bodies. They actually have talent. Once again, the dance doesn't suck because they're not sexual whores. Also, let's see you put together a music video with these kinds of graphics in 1999.

I suggest you get a reality check. Kthx.

  • Well the video was made in the 90's so you could tell by the way they dressed that was the fashion back then.

  • I know you think you're being funny with comments like this, but you're really not.

  • Who's the girl in white shirt and pinkish pants in the early part of the song?

  • Natsumi Abe.

  • The preeetiest one In The whole Momusu History, closely followed by Tanaka reina actually

  • whos the girl in 1:03 0_0?

  • Maki Goto

  • o i wasnt sure xD. yes my favorite. so hot 0.0

  • I really like this one they look so adult you guys dont nee d to complain because first their to childish and now to adult likes so please shut up and if you don't like it just don't watch!

  • this is featuring the first 3 generations of momusu back in 1999 :P

  • Japanese Girls in Tight Shiny Black Outfits... INSTAN WIN!!!!!

  • lol

  • isnt this supposed to be for little kids?

  • Why should it be?

  • originally back in 1997-2000 it was aimed at all ages

  • now its not its all not the same.

  • this music is like sonic the hedgehog casino zone

  • how can maki goto be 13 in this?!?! ftw..

  • i find this so arkward to watch x_x

    but good song nonetheless :D

    thanks for uploading ^^

  • How old is this song?

  • It was released in September 1999.

  • Yuko has a cute dress<3

  • Yes, it's a bit perverted to say so, but... Maki Goto in this video was the hottest 13 year-old EVAH.

  • She Was 13 here? :o

  • for great justice celedam that really was perverted but I can't seem to disagree.

  • whenever i see the "nice Body (Body, Body" part

    at :59 to 1:01, i feel odd? 0.o

  • i agree

  • No matter how many time I see this, I still can't believe that these girls were 12-16 at time of PV. And this song still sounds good.

  • Well, they weren't. This single was published on 9th September 1999 and on that date these girls were Yuko 26, Aya 21, Kei 18, Kaori 18, Natsumi 18, Mari 16, Sayaka 15 and Maki 13.

  • Wow, 26? I thought Morning Musume just comprises of girls below 18. Thus the term Musume, meaning, "Girls" or precisely, young girls. And Maki was 13? But she so...delicious.(Bad thought, must purge)

  • Musume means doter

  • It means either one, both daughter and girl. Musume in this case, is referring to "Girl", thus directly trasnlated "Morning Girls"...although "Morning Daughters" could be possible.

  • But it's translated as Morning Daughters, since that's what matters lol.

  • it's actually supposed to be translated as daughters of the rising sun, though the literal meaning is morning daughter..

the translation is supposed to be referring to them being daughters of japan since the red dot on their flag stands for the rising sun.

that being the case, it dont think it really matters how old they are if all girls are daughters.

  • I am always glad to see early videos of Aya, Kaori & Mari, the early Tanpopo in the makings. It was a good thing that Aya had such a good vision that gave us the Hello Project, with members of 1st generation Morning Musume then the forming of Tanpopo. Thank you...

  • who is at 4:43

  • The dark haired one is Kaori Iida (sings "anta mo") and the blonde one is Yuko Nakazawa (sings "atashi mo")

  • whoa!!!!! i wonder who was the two that did the nice nice nice body body part hehehe...anyways they're all sooooooo HOTTTT and will always be soooooo HOTTTT! but all their hotness combined couldnt match Kimutaku's! OH YEAAAAAA FOOOOOOOOO!!!

  • the 9:00 minute thing whos full version

  • i remember when this pv was 9 mins

  • The 9 minutes one included clip about the hype of their new album. everyon was walking like normal until some poeple took down MM's poster...and replaced it with a new one. Then the song starts and ends with kawaii Maki Goto smiling to a fan in a music store *Jealous*

  • Ok, this is a bit sad. I actually prefer the version Berryz and W did for this song at one of the concerts.(look up Berryz Love Machine. I beleive I have it in my Berryz playlist aswell.) This one just seems... I dunno, Odd....

And I normally love MoMosu's music!

  • You realize this is the single that started it all, right? There wouldn't be a Hello! Project as we know it if not for this one.

  • I know. I was simply saying that this just doesn't seem like the right song for MoMosu. It's better for Berryz. That's all I was trying to say.

  • actually "ai no tane"(Morning Musume) and "GET"(Heike Michiyo)started H!P not Love Machine
