  • Hermit FTW!

  • He declined Public Assistance... Ron Paul's hero.

Additionally, if this had been a black guy, he would NOT have been a novelty... He would have been arrested and banned from the area (at the very least). When white people see another white person (especially a white male) doing something ODD, they always Romanticize the person's motives and make a HUGE deal about it... WHEN will you get over yourselves? *sigh*

  • @gammerstang2009 Your! Idea of life is so sad.. IF IT WAS A BLACK MAN HE WOULD HAVE BEEN RUN OFF!! Your view of things is what keeps America from moving forward! As always someone has to turn this into a BLACK!! White thing!!

  • @mrrontwo

My "idea" of life has strong roots in American History. You seem to be ridiculously optimistic in light of what has transpired in the South during this period of time.

  • I guess they never found out who the shoe belonged to. Was it Roberts or did it belong to someone who caused his death?

  • the ads for these movies are annoying, and half the times the movies just keep on buffering.

  • Rest in peace Robert

  • In 1975 Cambodia has fallin under a comminist goverment,we were force to leave the city and thats when the killing field has started .in 4 years the gorilla soldiers has taken over 1.7 millions lives.among the innocent was my father.he was cut in half by a.k 47.and from that momment on, my life was taken away from me.the only things that was peaceful, was the jungle and the animals.they became my friends, and like Mr. Harrill, the city was the soldiers and the beach was his jungle RIP Mr.Harrill

  • @Sarannu2 The U.S. policy, according to Noam Chomsky, had caused the rise of the communist party in Cambodia. For example, Henry Kissinger advised Richard Nixon to illegally bombed east of Cambodia because Sihanouk did not order the Vietcong to stay off the areas during the Vietnam War. So the Khmer Roughs blamed the U.S government and the Sihanouk government for killing thousands of innocent Cambodian people in the villages.

  • rest in peace Robert the Hermit here some song i dedicate to you

    Point Dot - Soul Slavery

  • sounds like a realy nice man but who ever killed him i hope they live tell there 100 years old and see a kind mans face every day befor they sleep in there dreams and in there life every bit of it until they do the right thing and turn them selves in.

  • i dont think the people need to hit him or something its just was easyer way to ger rid of him to pay bullies to kill him. Possible it is he didnt say to people about them, because people will not understand his worries.

  • Blind man driving @ 37:04 !

  • is there a possibility the governement killed him?

  • Rest in Peace Mr.Hamil..Out of Respect for you I will NEVER visit or spend one dollar of my money in the State of North Carolina until your murder is solved and the murderer is brought to justice.......I promise! God Bless this beautiful soul...

  • Truth, beauty and goodness got in the way of progress and the powers that be got rid of him. Happens every day. Ain't human nature wunnerful?

  • For all of the peace and goodwill in our lives, there is always some sort of negative, destructive influence to come along and try to screw all of the good things up.

I think who ever murdered The Fort Fisher Hermit, they know who they are, and i hope anything good in their lives is rightfully screwed up !!

  • The Old Man and the Sea.

  • This man was truely somone to be admired, Rest in peace

  • Did the tire tracks match the V.W. bug? What about his mental health? Was he ever involved with any drug/alcohol stuff? Did any of the boys in the crowd that day have the same size foot as the shoe they found? Was Robert's book ever published? What happened to his wife?

  • Who ever killed the Hermit is a COWARD!

  • We should all aspire to live as this man did.... Truly Free....

  • @clinttoney Go for it. Whose stopping you?

  • Would love to meet the scum that did that to him, i'd get out of jail a free man someday but they would NEVER get out of their wheelchair lol.

  • theres some true scumbag people in this world. murder a helpless old man for fun? i hope your burning in Hell.

  • he lived the way people should, i wish we could all go back tp living that way, off the land and providing for our selfs, i guess seeing a man being as free as he way made some people mad, i think because its in all of us to want to live that way, its a natural instinct that is slowly fadeing away , if i live long enough i would like to try to live this way but not there, maby colorado or utah, away from stuiped people who dont understand, R.I.P ...R.E.H

  • Strong man who did what he though best, as I have dont and been put down by others because they could not understand what I did or why it is far easier to think me wrong

  • @BIG3PAPA6 you're an idiot. I was joking. so go back to the corner, ball yourself into the fetal position, and cry yourself back to sleep.

  • @geminirandall FETAL POSITION? SOUND LIKE YOU KNOW ALOT ABOUT THAT. YO DAD MUST HAVE TAUGHT YOU AT A YOUNG AGE HOW TO POSITION YOURSELF WHEN HE IS READY TO FUCK... KNOW EVEYONE KNOWS WHY YOU CRY YOURSELF TO SLEEP----CUMINYEREYERANDALL

  • @BIG3PAPA6 You're gay. Nobody cares about your life story. You're also stupid. LEARN HOW TO SPELL IF YOU'RE GONNA' TALK SHIT! " KNOW EVEYONE"? Really? What are you 6 yrs. old? Because you're dumb enough to be. And you're a big enough loser to actually come back and leave a comment 3 weeks later! Stop wasting daddys' time baby girl, and go back to playing with your dolls.

  • always people that want to kill decent men

  • quite entertaining and interesting.

  • Hope those folks go to hell who took this poor man’s life. RIP

  • @agenteles, I agreed....let them burn in hell and stay in hell.....the man was love and peaceful. every man should explore this great earth that is given to us..

  • The hermit was a little before my time but when I was growing up my family would go to Carolina Beach every summer. My parents and grandmother would always talk about the ole Fort Fisher Hermit. I've always been fascinated. Thanks for the great movie. There were other "hermits" in the Carolina Beach area that I've heard about, does anyone know any information on them?

  • His life was for all! He is a great man indeed.

  • Probably someone mad because this man lived with a little and most people think they need a lot.

  • thats an epic beard!

  • Well, apparently the subdivision didn't go in. I was a little suspicious that his death may have been caused by those wanting to develop the place for that.

  • living the life of a king sleeping under the sword damocles teaching the people to become real heart giving soul crucified by law and ridicule.live in peace dont mine force of conviction but make the best of it !! you all to be blame, admit you'r behaviour befor you juge ignorance this man was never a hermit not eluminated not abnormal .,he was wat every body's afraid of becoming ,totaly visible.

  • very nice documentary ...The hermit is a great man

  • It also is a testament to the ignorant Red Neck police force in the Carolina Beach area. If the killing took place on government land, why was the FBI not brought in immediately to the crime seen? Well at least there was one police officer that wanted an autopsy, until the idiot demanded a (10-22) to his work. The only thing Carolina Beach Police can do is lay wait for DUI drivers, and drink free coffee and fatten up on donuts.

  • @leo51141 haha thats all police, my friend. They don't fight true crime they make criminals out of the innocents.

  • What a sad ending for such a gentle soul. May his spirit abide at Fort Fisher along with the spirits of the brave Confederate and Union men who defended what each held dear in their hearts and minds. As for the person or persons that killed that sweet soul, what hell that has lived out every day in your mind is but a taste of where you will spend eternity for your evil deed,to that humble man.

  • men. they can't leave shit alone, especially each other

  • men. they can't leave shit alone

  • Interesting insight of an unusual life :)

  • i saw him last week, shopping in Tesco's with Elvis

  • Must the commercials be twice as loud as the movie? Gimme a break.

  • @ambientgreg i'll give you a break bitch, and 2 slap, now shut it

  • He had his faith and courage to live like that....Whoever killed him was a wimp and a pussy...So come on out and free yourself......Turn yourself in !!!!

  • When watching this I kinda' have that feeling when reading Robinson Crusoe.

  • @TheDoomRiser

read-you, read. wot, the book has pictures

  • makes me wonder about the 'hermit eradication program' 19:27

  • 'authorities' let the murderer(s) get away with it!

we need a school of common sense on the salt marsh

  • @poodlesusan

yeah , an we need weed rolling classes

    a chill out zone

a free bar , stocked by fbi contraband

    and lots of fresh pussy

  • I don't know who killed that innocent old man but who ever did i hope they burn a harsh cruel death in hell

  • i somewhat feel that the narrator is going to sell me something like cigarette or beer

  • @MrPinaka shut up , fool

  • Nice documentary...

  • whoa how much money was spent on making this blockbuster?

  • My Border Collie and I visited his bunker just this morning. Love the solitude of the place. We spent hours walking around the salt marsh and the beach, and never saw another soul. I only wish I could have met the man and attended his "College of Common Sense". Great documentary about a great and wise man. (Though slightly deranged, but aren't we all to some degree?)

  • This film and story of one mans wish to enlighten mankind to the tyrants in this world is driven home by the ignorance, respect, crudeness, and compassion of the comments posted here.

I can only imagine what the man himself would think of what is being written, and done in his name.

  • What kind of sick fuck picks on an old man?

  • Rob, et al,

I still love your documentary, and am thrilled that it is available at NO CHARGE to the public. However, there are a few serious "errors" that I think need to be corrected. I'll be up your way in the fall. Let's get together!

    M. Edwards-President, The (Fort Fisher) Hermit Society

  • Tell me that anyone who watched this wouldn't have wanted to become friends with this man and listen to his stories., and do as much as you could for him!!

  • i hate people

  • Awesome!

  • "There are a lot of poeple who wanna talk about freedom, but when they see a truely free individual it scares them."

Jack Nicholson's character George, in Easy Rider. 1969

    RIP

  • "scared of the hermit" ..then; are they scared of themselves ?

  • the background music seems to dampen the message of the video. it would have been without music at all.

  • Me too :)

  • Who would hurt such a great soul????????

Shame on you whoever You are and GOD have mercy on your soul/souls

  • Wow, we all could learn a lot from this man... It is a shame that his death was never investigated .

  • What a beautiful soul and a great person. I am sure he will be sorely missed. Its sad that we live in such a violent world where some people have nothing better to do than kill someone for being different.

  • Thank you for showing us all what a wonderful soul Robert shared with the world. I am sure he is still there to this day....

  • @DoctorSapperstein you are uninformed and ignorant. this is a beautiful celebratory film of this man's life and impact.

  • @scottyplug

    fuck u asshole..

    it's not celebratory.

they are exploiting this kind soul calling him "the hermit why not use his name?

why do they have t shorts and coffee cups and wesbites?

    buncha dumb rednecks!

  • @DoctorSapperstein You are rude and disrespectful. You have no idea what you are talking about. I created this film in honor of Robert Harrill and to celebrate his life. All revenues of any merchandise go back to spreading him message of love and understanding. We have been able to create a program at the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher about how Robert was able live in the salt marsh. We have also be able to restore the bunker her lived in and erect a memorial in him memory.

  • @robhill75

    I get your TWO replies.

    thanks.

My point was it seems exploitative to me calling him "the hermit" and especially these bullshit artists sitting around talking about his life as if they even have a clue about his mind. they are the very people he was likely fleeing from.

I am sure you mean well and that's great..it just comes across as sleazy.

especially that creep w the mustache and glasses.

  • This story touched me in a indescribeable way. I found myself thinking what that poor old man had to go through in his last hours that led to his death. And all he wished for was to assist others in their life journey. Again I find myself caring more for animals than humans. Animals do not kill for fun. Makes one wish they had been born any other creature but human. RIP I would have loved to had known you.

  • If people had really cared they would have built a real home for him or at least fixed up his bunker and provided mosquito netting.

  • i rode the moonlight cruze a few nights ago with my wife and kid. i spoke with a older man and his son..the son a very wise man and i spoke of the hermit and it prompted me to look this up..i heard of his murder and had to research it.

  • Nice movie I grew up hearing stories about my family seeing him. I love Ft. Fisher and he to me is a true North Carolina legend!

  • i stay like a couple miles away from where he lived...his house is still there.

  • An awesome man! It is astounding that he had that great an effect on so many people just by being who he felt he was meant to be and living the way he was meant to live.... he serves as a reminder to us all of what life is truly about.... simply amazing.

  • sad story .

peacefull man killed in a violent way just for being himself.

    being different is hard.

    RIP

  • Yeaa I payed my respects to him each time I made my way to Fort Fisher... awesome beach also!

  • what a terrible world we live in. why...why would anybody do this to him?? were they bored one day and decided...hey...let's kill the hermit! i hope they burn in hell.

  • The story of Robert Harrill (The Fort Fisher Hermit) is very inspring to me

  • This story is not bounded by religion. There was only a reference to religion. if you would have kept an open mind and watched the entire film this would have been clear.

  • Happy to have learned of this mans life and Social standing.

  • I'm glad that I decided to watch this film. It was great. I'm sure that I will see it again sometime.

  • great man geat movie

  • l'd like to have his courage

  • " A school of common sense"

should be one in every town village on the planet .....

  • the most popular homeless in america?
