  • Thats a nice pond.

  • Thats not a pond, its a fucking swimming pool! Haha nice pond btw :D

  • Nice job. You've given me an idea for my first place

  • Can you tell me the exact dimensions of your pond?

  • THIS IS NOT VIVA PINATA

  • why would u use rubber and not concrete.

  • Don't doe this in the south west U.S especially in the dry Mojave desert its a beacon for rattle snakes they will eat your fish and bite small children.

  • Why does a pond need levels? Someone please let me know , I can't find it on Google.

  • @TheRyansteven it's ones preference... also if you want to put plants in that need different depth levels.

plants have a min. and max. growing depth under water...

  • Awesome photo record and Great job.

  • thank you for posting the video. the pond looks great. how did the feeder fish make out?

  • @jobfromdayone had 1000's the first year. i have video's of them...

  • Fantastic job, but it might not be the 30K gal you think. It measures 33' L 23' W 6' D, it's not a circle, it's an ellipse, so let us start by averaging the diameter; take 33" L plus 23" W and divide it by 2, the average's 28' diameter, then the depth's 6' but again that's the deepest part, let's say on average it has 4' of depth, now let us calculate: average diameter 28' X average depth 4' X ( Pi square 3.14 X 2 ) = 1,104 cubic feet X 7.5 gal per cubic foot = 8,280 gal max. Fantastic job !

  • Beautiful pond

  • Amazing! You should put a painted turtle or a red eared slider in there :)

  • @codeythesilent i had 2 turtles in there my friend didn't want anymore...( i forgot what he said they were(but the slider sounds close)). but they didn't survive the winter

  • @apauln

aw :/ your pond is definitely deep enough for them to hibernate, but I dunno if they need silt or mud to bury themselves... I only have hands on experience hibernating captive box turtles so I'm at a loss.

  • @codeythesilent whatever the type of turtle they were... i asked info about them and was told they were native to texas...

i also found a baby snapping turtle at the lake that i put in there, but never seen it again...

  • fantastic effort and result . good for you !

  • I've got around 20 goldfish in a 30 gallon pond. Watch these people rage. I don't even care. I only bought 10. They breed on their own. I don't even feed them. It's called homeostasis you control freaks. I've had them for years. They are happy as fish can be. I also made a bog filter. I don't filter the pond any other way. Plants and fish. That's it. Nitrogen cycle is fine. I never take the temp (though it doesn't freeze here) and I don't give a crap about the PH. Fish fine for years.

  • Really nice job. The suurounding landscaping and all. Looks like a very relaxing place to hang out.

  • Bravo! I am really impressed and inspired by your project. It is perfect. (And I am politically/socially liberal. I am honestly not certain what that has to do with anything, but I felt a need to add that info given several comment here.) Cheers.

  • You could fit your house in the pond!

  • I love all of the liberals and their comments. "Will the fish survive?, fish can get out over the top, fish need filter to get rid of their impurities, Do the fish need a filter to live?, and my favorite... this guy "DownWithPropaganda". You did a fine job. Ignore the ignorance of fools who have no idea how nature has functioned for so many years. Fish will survive, they won't get out over the top, and "Downwithpropaganda" is dealing with a disfunctional childhood.

  • @tsangpot4 your comment is kinda of old but its bothering me. they will not survive without filtration. Nature does this by having a natural over flow while fresh water is being pumped in. the water is stagnant and will produce algae, which in turn decays and produces toxins that kill fish, ESPECIALLY in the winter time when ice covers the surface and the gases have no where to escape. no need to argue though, I am a professional that deals with ponds and water gardens daily

  • Damn beautiful!!

  • i have feeder fish in my pond my pond is 500 gallons we have 20 feeder fish in it

  • the $2009 is kind of a random price why not make it $2000? thumbs up if u agree

  • well done, would love a pond like this with some koi and lillys in it. congrats

  • Screw all the haters, this is a very nice pond. Maybe its a little short of filtration but then again natural ponds only have plants and they seem to do alright.

  • Awesome job, I wish I had that much yard to work with : /

  • well... pretty nice but no 30,000 gal, that's just impossible...

  • Lovely pond there mate, Makes my 1200l pond like like a drop :)

  • God some people make stupid comments , to the man that built this ~ you did'nt have a clue ?? well you carry on through life not having a clue , because thats a beautiful job , well done. from Sydney Australia..awsome !!! job.

  • They say you need some shade as ponds will overheat and that knocks the ecology out of whack. Too much algae etc. Otherwise better than I could do.

  • looks like shit what a waste of time

  • Impressive Video.

  • I have watched this film many times and love it. i was just wondering you said you lost all your fish why not make a larger bio-filter pond above where the pool is and make a natural swimming pool?.

  • Congratulation! God Bless your pound! It´s too cheap there in USA! Here in Brazil, the same material coast something like 8,000$ or more. =((( God bless my money poket.

  • me and my dad can make a bigger pond than yours w/o using any truck.

  • Looks awesome. I just did a small pond in my backyard, 10ft L x 6ftW x 16in D. I used rubber roofing as a liner, put a bridge over it, littel waterfall, a bush pile and cave under the bridge and put about 15 catfish in it ranging from 2 to 6 inches and one thats 10 inches. Just put it in for my little brother to fish in when hes bored, putting minnows in tomorrow for the catfish to eat and about 2doz crawdads.

  • do the fish need a filter to live?

  • @TheHalokiller117 Fish need a filter to get rid of their waste and other impurities.

  • Awesome job, I couldn't even imagine doing all of that digging by hand. By the way, what type of rock did you use for the base of the pond?

  • What part of the country is your pond located? Curious about what you do with/to it during the winter months.

  • HOW DO U GET A CONCRETE TRUCK TO TURN INTO A WATER TRUCK!?!

  • @bartmaster1234 Put water in it and leave out cement?

  • After all is said, it was a fun and rewarding project, that will last for years to come. Good job.

  • you are rich there for haha

  • hey grat job....building mine right now so I know how much work it is.....well done

  • Amazing! I love all the comments pointing out your faults and mistakes! Jealous much?? You did a great job now come make me one haha

  • Lol I made a pond aka puddle out of trash bags

  • Recommended temperature range: 22 - 23 C.

    Recommended pH range: 6.4 - 7.5.

    Recommended hardness range: 5 - 15 dH.

You have plenty of aquarium filtration capacity.

Your aquarium filtration capacity for above selected species is 159%.

Recommended water change schedule: 1% per week.

Your aquarium stocking level is 18%

  • can u video the latest condition now?! between...you done a GREAT JOB! AWESOME!

  • nice job, looks good

  • That looks really hard work and commitment but I'd say it defo added great value to your house :)

  • I stand corrected once I did the calculations when I looked at the length and width and depth it does look like it is way more gallons that what I thought.

  • @djsoundsbest once again someone making a comment to "it doesn't "LOOK LIKE" 30,000gals"... how can someone tell what 30,000gals look like from a video?

compare the size of the 80,000LB concrete truck to the pond.

do some research on the liner...

"Backhoe and concrete truck filled with water around 1500 not figured in." what does this mean?

""leave out alott of stuff"" what stuff?

looks to me that you are making alot of criticism but you have no clue to what you are saying...

  • Nice but you did leave out alott of stuff. And that sure dont look like 30,000. That would figure to around 4000 cubic feet of area. 7.48 gallons/cuft of space. It look more about 3,000 gallons. You need plants to get rid of some of those nitrates produced by the fish. Plus they will feed on them too. The liner is 1/2 the minimum thickness recomended for ponds. Backhoe and concrete truck filled with water around 1500 not figured in. As another poster added good first attempt.

  • your so stupid if you needed something faster tell chuck norris too pee in the pond for you, instant fill

  • @babeecherri it's "you are" or "you're" not "your"...idiot... and "you're" calling me stupid...

  • You are amazing to tackle such a big project. I am proud of you and your pond is lovely. Happy New Year from Australia. XXXX

  • Very good for a first attempt, but sadly it has too many fish, filter too small, not all built by hand (back hoe used) outlined by rock cakes, bottom drain better, no over flow. (if too much rain fish can gety out over the top)

But like i said, good for a first attempt

  • @MrGreen958 there isn't alot of fish, it has an overflow, water never comes up to the top(and we had major flooding in 2006) and i did state that i used a back hoe to dig the main part of the hole. i don't know what rock "cakes" are.

there are plenty of things that i would change if i.d only knew in the beginning. my main problem is the all day direct sun. i hope to get back in the spirit and start to work on fixing my mistakes...lol

  • @apauln what problem do you think the sun is causing you?

  • @apauln

Hi can you tell us what you would have done different?

Also very nice work! At a reasonable price. the filter is indeed small, but water rundowns/falls add some filtereing value so i dont think you have to worry about that.

  • it looks great....keep up the good work... i wish i had that much room in my back yrd to do that...

  • pretty dam nice for $2000 i saw another smaller pond than this one and this dude said it can cost $3000

  • awesome pond

  • Wow looks great and the amount of work u put in it......Great

  • I'm giving away 5 free copies of a PhD publication on A pilot constructed treatment wetland 4 pulp & papermill wastewater! Just send me a message!

  • @alidapham yes please ,we build these locally as well.would love to see your waste water treatment solution .

  • can i swim in it?

  • beauutiful pond, I'd love to have my own fish pond someday, but I plan on making a 100 acre clear water lake, water that you can see through to the bottom, and keeping the water clean with about 2 or 3 hundred super powered filters and 100 sparatically placed airators, so I can have my monster catfish and give it some friends too, along with some bass, bluegill, crappie, perch, and carp. I want it to be clear so I can see the monster fish and not just think that they're in there

  • @drewnickel sounds beautiful. i hope i'm invited to see it when it's done... lol

  • @apauln yeh, it's gonna be a hefty bill to pay, but in the end it'll be great, and I'll keep it fenced off and keep it guarded by the surrounding forrests so nobody will steal the fish I worked so hard to raise, or pollute the water and turn it into a muddy murky polluted mess. it'll cost around $500,000 total, but I'm hoping it'll be worth it. I'm planning on buying this 250 acre farm when I graduate from college and get a job, so I'll have plenty of room for the lake when that happens

  • damn ur pond is almost as big as ur house. really really awesome pond u got there.

  • Now im not gonna lie im a little jelous, it looks amazing

  • WOW. That's a huge project...lots of work went into this. Nice job.

  • Nice job. Once time adds its share it will look even better. Refer to: Central Texas Gardener: 7/10/10 on You Tube. No its not my place, but the video gives a since of time added help to a garden pond. Oh and your winter photo are nice too.

  • @spacewalker1551 im sorry i can't make any sense out of these 2 sentences:

"Once time adds its share " & "but the video gives a since of time added help" i usually can see passed the typos but i can't figure these out... i'm not trying to be a dick...

    thanks for the positive comment...

  • Very nice job. I just built a 520 gal pond myself with a flexable linner and that was hard enough work so I can only imagine what it was like for you. I spend about $1200.00 on everything. Since I live in Florida, the most costly part was buying the rocks ($575.00) Since Florida is mostly sand unlike the northeast where I grew up,I couldn't just go to the river and get them myself, I had to buy them at a supply store where they are trucked in from another state. Again, nice job.

  • u should put some bass catfish or trout in ther

  • @troutman12345 there was a bass in there. there are loads of brown bullhead catfish in there and i don't want them in there. they reproduce like roaches.. you want some?

  • use google translator... -.-

  • @ronch0 i did but it will not translate

  • si quieres tener un verdadero estanque de peces, la próxima vez hazlo de concreto solido, no de lona!

  • @ronch0 need translation

  • amazing work!

  • This is Brilliant work!! Amazing.

QUESTION: How did your Fish survive during the Winter Snowfall?? I live in Edmonton where the temp can dip as low as -40F!!! I want to make a pond with fish in it but dunno if they can survive the winters! Please help!

  • @kartikca WOW!, that's cold! the coldest it's ever got around here was a couple of years ago at -14°F and that was a record. the colder the environment the deeper your pond would have to be(below frost line). i don't know how you can keep an opening in the surface being the temp getting that cold. ask a local nursery in your area.

  • @kartikca i was using a small water pump to keep an opening in the ice for the 1st year. 2nd year the pump stopped working and the pond frose over but they suvived the winter. so for a couple of years i didn't keep an opening in the ice and it frose over for several months without loses. but i wasn't taking in account that the fish were growing and they would need more oxygen and over the winter of 2007/08 all my koi and 3 channel cats died. so an opening is definately needed.

  • @apauln Cool! Thanks a lot! excellent work By the way!

  • You forget about a rock,next $1000.00 or more.

  • @muzykmiras i didn't pay a dime for the boulders. and more like $25,000.00... check other comments for explanation on price of boulders. can't tell you where the comments are since youtube made it so confusing... for me the comment explaining price is for some reason on top of all comments, even though it's 2 months old...

  • @DownWithPropaganda what a dick...

  • @apauln I'm sorry, Was I supppose to lie to you and say your pond looks fantastic? I will leave that task to your Mom. I was being honest. your pond looks bad. If you can't deal with the reality, then that's too bad for you.

  • @DownWithPropaganda still a dick

  • @apauln Too bad you can't handle honest opinion.

  • @DownWithPropaganda it's not what you'd said... it's the way you said it.

  • @DownWithPropaganda Post the pond you built with your own two dick beaters.

I hope you die slowly in a fire screaming for your mother.

  • @WizzleThump angry litle man, aren't you?

  • @DownWithPropaganda You are such a loser. It is time to lose your virginity kid. And no, there is nothing you can do to convince everyone watching this vid that you are not a virgin loser!

  • Comment removed

  • looks really good...mine is still in porgress , I add what I can afford when I can afford it

  • love this video. good visual of everything you would want to see in a pond. i especially like the pond sounds in the background. although music is great, it was a good break to watch a nice calm pond video.

  • ohhh nice job man .. looks really amazing.. keep it up..

  • i now know how lucky i am with getting these boulders for free... i seen in this gardening store, where i live, and they had a couple of boulders, each on their own pallet for $300-$400 each. THAT'S INSANE!!!

but anyway, i own my home with 2acres plus 100's of acres behind my home and there is not 1 boulder on it, which is unusual for this region. when you dig, anywhere, you get lots of shale only.

  • nice job. rock/boulder is expensive if you buy it. where did you get yours if you don't mind sharing. thanks.

  • @telemarker77 the concrete plant i worked for 'rented' space in a quarry. i asked the manager of quarry if i can take some rocks home, here and there,he said yes. and by coincidence they had a pile of boulders in 1 spot(never before or after did they do this). so that night(i was the last 1 back from delivering concrete, everybody was gone) i used our loader(concrete plants) to load as much boulders that i could fit in our dump truck and hauled it home. ***see comment below for rest***

  • good job took a lot of roock to build that waterfall

  • @jordan628trisha i hauled a tri-axle loaded dump truck full of boulders and it still wasn't enough. i also filled a full size van(as much as it can hold) 4 or 5 times and still didn't have enough...

  • That's a very nice pond, we have one in our back garden that we started to build in 1962 all out of concrete about 20 ton, but your liner is a much better idia, we have had a few problems with leaks over the years.

  • there's a human head @3:03

  • Excellent job!!

My pond cost about the same to do.

You can save a ton of money doing it

    yourself!

  • I've been looking around and see some people placed retaining walls within their multi-leveled ponds. Is this needed, as you haven't taken those steps in your pond?

  • Good Job!

  • Wow crazy big pond!

Ur filtration is not adequate for that size of pond, if ur going for the cristal clear look,

Great pond btw, where's teh fish?

  • yeah i know... that savio was a waste of money... i've seen really large skimmers/filters for half the price.

plus i've got to do other things to the pond to correct the all day direct sun light algae problem... i've got to get plants growing on the south side of the pond... maybe next spring...

  • Its a good thing its in full sun, for shad plant some hardy lilys that need fun sun. They will shad the water to protect your fish and control algae. All you need is a pump and bio filter that can filter all the water at least two times a hour. Also buy a 2 dozen bundles of oxygenators plants. you'll never have algae problem again

  • You know whats funny though, You could have gotten 45Mil EPDM Pond liner for the price you payed for that PVC Junk.

  • i chose the 'ultraguard' because it was as strong as the epdm but very much lighter. it was hard enough trying to get the 35'x50' 20mil liner in place by myself.

    why is it junk?

  • Well Believe it or not, i installed a pond for my cousins for the trill of it, and added a Ultra-Gard to their pond 30Mil PVC (thicker than yours) and in one year because of the boulders the liner tore in 16 Different place's in less than a year, So i relined it... I bought a 45 Mil EPDM Anjon Pond Liner w/ Lifetime warranty, and paid less than i did for the PVC. Till today No leaks, No fuss, No refilling everyday, No problem!

  • mine's been going now for 5years, no leaks... and as i said, i installed it all by myself, which means a lot of dragging the liner over rocks, gravel, and a lot of sharp stuff. plus the front and back walls of the pond had endless amounts of shall, just have to have a good underlayment. i'm not defending ultraguard, i couldn't care less in what liner to use... as long as it hold water.

  • Well your pond is so large you could almost never tell if there is a leak! But it look's as though it is working for you! So that's good to know, still you should have got EPDM and use a machine like a truck and invite a few friends to help, that's what i would have done, but that's just me. Well i hope you get a filter soon i really want to see your koi!

  • Yes, but after all that time and the ripped up back yard, his wife left him for someone with a swimming pool.

  • if you look above the pond you'd see a pool. and my back yard is 2 acres, it would take alot more work to rip up the backyard.

  • AMAZING

  • lol...because everyone has a cement truck to fill their pond

    lol

  • WHAT?????

  • im sayin that no one but u has a cement truck...lol

  • any fish farming going on?

  • nicely done

  • WOW!!

You live in amazing place!! it looks like haven :)

    very beautiful pond! good job

  • Great Job ! Looks GOOD !

  • damn, beautiful pond. im really, really jealous. that is incredibly cheap. i cant even believe that. to have that built, WHOOOOOOOOO. spendy, what 10-15k, mayber more.? def cheaper to do yourself. excellent job.

  • great job!!!! :)

  • well done, i hope my wife don't see that video :)

  • nice work!

  • Comment removed

  • what does a 30000gal pond LOOK like???

how can you tell by looking at a video??? looks small??

well look at the 80,000LB 10 cubic yard tri-axle 13'3" tall, 45' long, concrete truck at 1:24, the pond can almost swallow it up...

  • yea it just looks kinda small, no that you point that out i can tell..still nice job with the pond

  • put some turtle in

  • beautifull mate well done bet there all sorts wildlife in there now!

  • i would get wild fish to make the pond look more exotic or something

  • sorry to "jikininki1" i went to reply and hit remove by mistake...

  • Not exactly by hand if u used a backhoe huh?

I made mine by hand also.

i paid a guy with my hands to dig and stuff

    lol

    lol

  • i dug a pond this size by hand for my brother-in-law and sister in 2000, so i'll apply that to this pond...lol

  • thats awsome

  • wait a sec this pond isn't 30,000 Gallons! I used a pond calculator and found your pond is 22,770 Gallons, not 30.00 gallons But still that's big!

  • i also used a pond calc. and came up with 35/36000gals and subtracted for the ledges...

  • what's a wheelbarrel?

  • HA, look on Google! Looks like you are a office type person if you don't know what a wheel barrel is!

  • i was being sarcastic. it's called a wheelBARROW. look on google!

  • You got me on that one!

  • WOW, i'd always though it was barrel... thanx for that...

  • Beautiful pond, good job! We have a 2500 gal pond/waterfall in our backyard. It's nice but we have so much trouble with string algae! We treat it all the time, but still end up draining & cleaning about every 3 months! Do the feeder fish you spoke of eat the algae??? We have talked about getting some kind of bottom feeder but didn't know if it would really help. Any suggestions??? Any feedback ould be much appreciated!

  • get a uv sterilizer. i had the same problem in my old pond. it was a little one maybe 500 gallons. new pond. same size as yours. we have a uv sterilizer in it and its so much better

  • You should get a Savio Skimmer Filter with two UV Clarifies. It will keep your water really clean

  • really nice pond and progress video. 30,000 gal. is a HUGE undertaking so much respect your way. I just spent the weekend enlarging my starter pond of two years. I got the bug big time, rented a mini backhoe (this is the way to go for sure) Am working on the waterfall now.

  • You definitely had an advantage with the concrete truck. Nice job. Your pond really came a long way

  • Props dude! That's a Koi fans dream!

  • Nice! Just got to tell you that green water is making your pond look like a sewage outbreak you need to get a UV or do something about it pronto! The pond would look so much better with crystal clear water!

  • u did very nice! i got a question tho. lol u said u bought feeder fish right. wat happened to them the 1st winter ? but yeah ima make a pond for my brother in his backyard and im just looking around to get an idea also. but i hope i do like u and not know wat im doing and at the end have it all beautiful. nice pond!

  • rosey reds turned in to 1000's(from only 60). they are bigger and healthier than any bought at any pet store.(endless source for feeding indoor aquarium). the bullfrogs i used to have would ambush them and eat a mouthful at a time...

    gold fish are about 10-12".

look thru my vids. i have vids of rosey's and the goldfish, along with the koi's...

  • Nice job!
